What happened when i bought a house with Solar already installed.. What happened to pedant in you ? You didn't buy squat with solar installed, somebody else did :) Second, I am actually a SunRun customer with 2kW array (I have another 6kW array that I own in another location). Re: Clip - improved 3D printing technology?

Improved speed (Maybe 1000x could be possible  ). Is obviously huge.. But to me, its the ability to use a wider range of materials, and the resulting "monolithic" construction, (absence of layering) , that are the most interesting advances. Also, its good to see a real practical demonstration...

Re: ICE vs Electric Motor Transmissions

Yes , Mahindra ( and most other teams). have modified their powertrains with the seasons . This season (2018/19) has seen a big change in rules and drivetrain specs (more power, etc). Several teams run single speed , and others have developed refined dual speed, and " multi" speed transmissions. The...

Re: ICE vs Electric Motor Transmissions

So...
If the Two motors had the same torque and rpm range, the one with the 8:1 ratio would accellerate faster ( but with a lower top speed.
And if you gave it a 2 speed transmission . 8:1 and say 3:1..
..it would have faster acceleration, AND a higher top speed .. than the 4:1 ratio.. ??

Re: FIX for non trimmable Li-Ion charger that slightly overcharges eSkate

With that "Cocktail" of mixed cells, i would be more worried about getting an even charge on each 2p pair when charging. Im guessing the charger is not a balancing charger ? Might i suggest you invest $25 in a cheap RC balance charger that you can easily adjust the settings on , and ensure those mix...

As far as I understand it, if you want better acceleration and speed it is better to put the extra complexity, cost and weight in a bigger/stronger electric motor, controller and battery then in a gearbox.
Go tell the EV drag racers.

Re: ICE vs Electric Motor Transmissions

Actually its obvious the i3 would be a faster car ..better accereration and higher top speed, even with a 2 speed gearbox. Every EV has a reduction transmission between the motor and the roadwheels, and that reduction ratio is carefully chosen to suit the motor characteristics (torque, rpm , etc) , ...

Arguably, Ebikes are a classic example of the effects of gearing on equivalent wattage motors Hub motors are cheap, reliable, simple and efficient.. But the mid drive Ebikes, which benefit from both higher rpm motors and multiple gear ratios, can give better accelleration and top speeds, but general...

Re: Samsung 33J - a 21700 Li-ion battery designed for Tesla

Ahh ! , so for the powerwall they are prioritising cycle life at the expence of energy density.
Now that can make sense for a static pack. :bigthumb:
But, it also highlights the compromises that are forced by the limits of current Li technology ! :| :?

Re: Samsung 33J - a 21700 Li-ion battery designed for Tesla

Something doesnt seem to sound right with this... Why would Tesla want this cell over their existing 4.8 Ah cell , or even the 3.1-3.3Ah , 18650's they already have access to. ? This is bigger and heavier than the 18650, with no advantage in output, and Tesla have never had an issue with cycle life....

Re: Where to buy cheap Li-pol batteries instead of Multistar?

Bad info. 3.2v will get you more than 90% out of a 25R and most RC LiPo still have ~20% in them @ 3.6v. For the rest, there's flux weakening. The real reason to use RC lipo is for high C rate. ??..you may want to check and rethink that ! https://lygte-info.dk/review/batteries2012/Samsung%20INR18650...

Re: Where to buy cheap Li-pol batteries instead of Multistar?

Multistar gets the crap beaten out of it by good 18650 packs in terms of Wh / kg, $ / kwh, and does not even have the power density to make up for it. Li-Ion (18650/21700) have to be drawn down to < 3v to get the claimed capacity, That is a 25% voltage drop across the capacity range...and if you do...
