Re: Wind and Solar vs Coal, Gasoline, Nuclear

No doubt the modern uptake of AIrCon has significantly added to power demand in the last 10-20 yrs, ..but history shows that there has always been am, and pm, power peaks associated with the population movements and meal preparation, ovens , cooktops etc, water kettle use, and of course lighting , T...

Re: Go Kart Motor to compete against DD2 Petrol Motor

Incase you had not already realised, one of your main issues is going to be battery capacity/power/weight. Obviously you need a powerful motor to get the pace to hang with the DD2s, but that motor power needs a powerful battery to feed it. There are plenty of powerful cells, but the more power you u...

You can think of it a negative sh1t , i will simply keep being rational and calling it as it appears. Remember your confidence about Tesla never missing a production target ?..and my "negative sh1t" about 20,000 Mod3's a month by last December.?? Re: Wind and Solar vs Coal, Gasoline, Nuclear

We have had some hot windless days (18th, 19th) this month that have tested our power grid. Generally all scraped through with few problems, though some industries and facilities were required to "reduce" their consumption..( Demand Management) However , there is still a cost to this madness. The tw...

Re: Wind and Solar vs Coal, Gasoline, Nuclear

And it's going to get worse when global warming hits 2°C and Sydney and Melbourne start seeing 50°C. If only there was a power source that peaked when the sun is strongest to help offset peak electricity demand due to air conditioning... .. If only that was a reliable source that did not need 100% ...

Re: Wind and Solar vs Coal, Gasoline, Nuclear

What do you think will pump the water up hill if Snowy 2.0 gets built? If the Libs had their way it would be coal. They must be awfully torn, because on the one hand it makes them look like they're doing something, but on the other, it creates a massive market for renewable energy projects, somethi...

There is a subtle difference between re-investing your profits to expand your business (Amazon),..
....and using all your revenue to ofset an ever increasing current debt (Tesla).
One is a sustainable business strategy, the other is not !

Tasmania, with a whopping 93% RE for electricity generation, a 5cent/kwh feed-in tarrif for domestic solar and the lowest CO2 emissions in Australia. It's also close to the cheapest on your list, and, against some predictions for high-percentage RE somehow seems to be able to keep the lights on yea...

Re: Wind and Solar vs Coal, Gasoline, Nuclear

There are 5 main states in the Australian National Electricity market. (NEM) They are grid linked, and Nationally controlled, but obviously pricing is determined by state power policy, and local generating cost, demand, etc The following is a summary of the actual wholesale pricing ($/MWh) of indivi...

Peak summer heat is highlighting the limitations of South Australias rush into Wind generation. Electricity market prices are difficult to understand , and impossible to explain, but the continuous 30 minute "bids" from the generators to supply power are all logged and accessible for public confusio...

Re: Wind and Solar vs Coal, Gasoline, Nuclear

Yes, ....but whilst that is normal for many grid systems, (indeed Victoria itself also has the 4GW "Snowy" hydro system operating ina similar way)...but this is 500km offshore and needing the onshore coal plants to "cover" the hydro turndown at night via some HVDC submarine cables. It just shows how...

Previously, when i have considered the Boston Power cell, i have dismissed it on cost and availability grounds...

Have the prices and availability improved now ?

Re: Wind and Solar vs Coal, Gasoline, Nuclear

$0.04/kWh is inline with the eia.gov LCOE data for onshore wind. ( after tax concessions ) But , the odd thing is that those Sheperds Flat costs all relate to 2008-2012 contracts whilst the eia figures are for 2022 start ups. A 10 year time difference , which i would have expected to increase the co...

Have you seen other tests on these cells ? Here is one such, on this forum.. https://endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=91926 It fairly clear from those tests that the full 4800mAh iis available , but there is very little between 4.2-4.1 volts (350mAh ?). And less in the 2.9 - 2.5 volt r...

Re: Samsung INR21700-48G

. 1. The cells pack together a bit better than 18650's. This means more total capacity in the same amount of space. . They are rated at 4800mah so that means that between 2.5 volts and 2.9 volts and above 4.1 volts is another 1200mah that so far I am not measuring. I'm skeptical, but we will see. M...

The issue is now to get that wind power to the south where the demand is, as they shut down the...
