Re: Ford's secret plan to make money servicing EV's- Mach E Mustang

. . As for James May, i didn't watch, but i'm going to guess that he did NOT have a battery tender plugged in, and hooked to the 12v battery  all cars need to keep the 12v battery charged when they sit more than a week or so. . ... watch the video.....then rethink your comment ! Wow ! Thats pretty ballsie to hop into a strange, unknown sailboat with a dead engine, and head srtaight out of the Bay to open water for several days.!... Re: Auto industry’s secret plan to make money servicing EV's- Mach E Mustang

James May...(yes he of ex “TopGear”)...has owned a Tesla S for some time. It is interesting what extended ownership reveals. Even, though the S was garage parked, and on a charger, the Aux 12v battery went flat and locked the car down. Solution was not as simple as you might expect, and the cause wa...

Re: Lightweighting and aerodynamic optimization of a subcompact car.

Get the basics first. Must have is a bench top drill press and 6" grinder....... .... yes, but get the BENCH first ! .... ( workshops most used piece of kit !) Lots of clean worktop space, and make it plenty strong with a good 4”+ vice bolted to it on one corner ( left or right handed ?)... An...

Until battery tech/ (energy density)..”tx Ocean Solar” will be little more than a demo exercise for the rich.
I suspect Wind will remain the dominant fuel for ocean racing for a long time yet.

Re: Axle conversion from QR to Thru axle Front wheel

At the least you would need a replacement hub axle installed ( wheel and motor strip and rebuild !) Unless you are very competant or know a good/cheap Ebike mechanic,... it will be much simpler and cheaper to sell the fork and buy a QR version. EDIT ..... sorry i misinterpreted your words and...

Relays are one of the more reliable electrical components. ( compared to LED lights, displays, motors for windows etc) Tesla have already had their own issues with “Solid State” electronics that had a limited life of <5k miles , requiring a $3+k replacement......until they were forced to do a recall...

Re: Ebike Battery stored for a long tome

I say again..... 8-10 miles on used 10Ah Lead cells is about what you should expect. Even at their best they would only have 240 Wh of capacity on a SLOW discharge, so with aging and high rate discharge, you would be lucky to get 150-200Wh from them. (Mr Pukert wants his cut also !) so riding them n...

Re: Super Capacitors for "Burst Mode"?

What about supercapacitors for just a 5 sec burst. I was just brainstorming about building a really fast E motor scooter. A big QS motor that can handle 30kw peak in the rear and one in the front. 2 big controllers, a simple 4kwh 100v 18650 pack for cruising around town at max 8kw of power. So 60kw...

Hmm ?..... its a shame... 12 miles on used 24v SLAs was not a bad result ( dependig on the Ah rating , and your ride style etc)
But Lead is best forgotten anyway.
I would plan for 36 v Li to give you more capacity, range and speed.

heavy haul Electric truck trials in Australia.

Not waiting for Tesla or Nikola, ..an Aussie company “JANUS Electric ” has developed an alternative approach to the EV Truck issue. They offer an “EV.Conversion” for existing Diesel trucks using a 350kW motor and 4-600 kWh “swappable” battery pack together with a proposed “Battery Change Station” ne...

Re: Hydrogen Drive - We Made the Battery Obsolete

Our system is a pressure vessel. It can safely store 600lb of hydrogen and oxygen gas, but we only store up to 300lb. We always had an air gap at the top of our electrolysis system and we had always been able to pressurize the system - in the early days they would run at 10-25lb of pressure but the...

Do you have any hills or significant slopes, driveways, ramps, etc to negotiate ? I have no doubt that 1800w will move you down the road, but accelleration and climbing ability will be limited. And what would be the energy source.. Wind ? (X),...Solar ?( NFC) !

Would be nice to live on a planet where only the most intelligent inhabit and leave this one behind.
You would not be “living on a planet” ..you would be living in a bubble / space suit, with your life totally in some one else’s hands.
What happened to that “Geodome” living experiment ?
