Has anyone recorded acceleration figures for their bike? If so, what components did you use and what was your bike and rider weight? I just installed a new controller on my bike and now speedometer isn't working, but I'll post video and GPS data for my bike in the near future.

My feeling is that the torque of a disc brake far exceeds that of a small hub motor. Think how quickly you can stop a bike with your front brake, now compare that to the acceleration of a small hub motor. I would guess the front brake is capable of applying 5-10X the torque of a small hub motor. So ...

Does the 330rpm do alright on 48V in a 700c setup? It seems like it should but I still have yet to know what voltage 330 rpm no load occurs at.? 330RPM at 36V no load nominally. As for 700C, I run a single 330 RPM motor on 12S in 29er format and live in San Francisco. I commute about 17 miles a day...

Sorry, but I can only help you with motors and motor parts at this time. I've been looking into motor controllers but that is another topic.

I'm all for light weight, stealthy ebikes as they offer the rider the best of both worlds - similar handling and feel to a normal bike but more power to make things easier. The problem with a cassette is that it will reduce the motor length by almost 10mm. This is because the ratcheting mechanism has been moved from inside the gear cluster to inside the freehub body. What is the dropout width on the Raleigh? Most of the motors need 135mm or more with discs. If 25mph is all you need and you don't have major hills, you could go with a single Q100H and S06S or similar. Use a small controller to keep from frying the motor.

An ebike doesn't need gearing. But look at it this way: getting the most power out of a motor means pushing it's thermal, mechanical, and electrical limits. Very bad idea. The off-set in the rim is already on the limit of geting decent spoke tension on the cassette side. I don't think you'd be able to build the wheel like that because with maximum spoke tension, it still wouldn't pull the rim across far enough. This is a problem with most geared casset...
