Re: Ebike Comparison: ENVO D-35 vs. Terk Verve+ 2

Most of us are building ebikes. We don’t like promoting those on the market, especially when the discussion is coming from a seller in disguise.

That said, as bike builders we know about frame quality. To compare Trek with ENVO is not even worth a discussion.

Re: 48V headlight with correct beam pattern?

Dc/dc converters can be avoided, simply series wiring your light system. I did combine running lights with headlight and tail light, in series to match my bike battery. Many automotive lights are very tolerant for voltage, so it doesn't matter if the series is not matching exact battery voltage. The...

Re: 48V headlight with correct beam pattern?

Thank you both for the input. I'll do some research accordingly. MadRhino, what do you use for optics when you build your own? For the commuter, I finally opted for a used HID motorcycle light with hi/lo beams, color temp 5000k. On the dirt bike, I had intalled a short 70w LED worklight bar from th...

Re: ? Performance of a modified eBike

I have seen this bike here this summer. Looks good, but not suitable for performance. You can make it go faster easily with higher voltage battery and controller replacement, but it is not worth building with a big DD hub.

Re: 48V headlight with correct beam pattern?

None that I have tried, flashlights or ebike lights, gave me satisfacion. Too low, too bright, improper beam pattern... OK for low speed, but not convenient for speeding at night. There are 2 solutions to obtain a proper headlight: Adapting a motorcycle/automotive headlight, or building one yourself...

Re: How to remove a stuck pivot bolt

You won’t have to drill much to free both sides off the frame. To free it off the shock eyelet, you can hammer, press, heat, whatever. Any professional cobalt alloy drill bit will do. Yours are probably worth the cost of one 1/4’’ bit for the whole kit of sh*t. I don’t like Ti bits but they are an a...

Re: Axle does not fit into dropouts perfectly

Torque plates, each side, 1/4 steel. Ideally 2 screws each to hold em on the actual dropouts, but one screw and glue is OK.

Re: How to remove a stuck pivot bolt

I would drill it off, to avoid damaging the frame with pressure or hammering. Then re-assemble in a more standard way: Stainless pivot bolt, alu bushings, PTFE washers, Nylock nut.

Re: Why not comfort bikes?

Yep. When you have a stiff frame with the best suspension components, it does ride much better than cheap motorcycles, with a fraction of the weight. I top around 70 mph, hit 60 at least once everyday, with frequent 0-45 hard accelerations in my commute. And been doing so for many years, never less ...

Re: Why not comfort bikes?

Some older dirt bikes are on 16 or 18’’, but they have much better suspension than bicycles. Even 24’’ on ebikes are making a harsh ride in mountain trails and force you to slow down. 26 is good with 2.6 to 3.00 tires making them 27 or 27,5’’ OD. Recent MTB are on 29 and everyone agree they are a mu...

I guess it is about where and how you ride, for I find great psychological discomfort riding a bike I can’t control in dense trafic or emergency situations. The streets here are more minefield than tarmac type.

Cheap ebay kit will do it
Rear DD hub
Upgrade to programmable controller
Learn to care for RC lipo, buy good ones.

Drivers licence means nothing. People are killed by licensed drivers, two per minute in the world. A lot of drivers should never be allowed to drive, but none of the tests to obtain a drivers licence are about psychology.

Re: Does torque normally change with battery voltage?

The torque produced is directly related to watts fed to the motor, and the limit is the motor saturation. Higher voltage does mean more watts, given equal Amps so yes, it will produce more torque but it will also spin faster. Good if you use that extra speed, but a handicap in efficiency if you keep...
