Re: Tesla Model 3 battery teardown!

IMHO, the potting is for vibe and corrosion resistance, and the majority heat path is likely through the bottom of the cell. This shot shows what I think is a cooling plate or channel between the cells. http://www.motortrend.com/news/tesla-model-3-teardown-deconstructed-3/#tesla-model-3-teardown-9

Re: Model 3

You will love the Model 3. I attended an alt energy/green tech event at a nearby park Saturday. I lined up our Bolt with a plug-in Prius, and 4-5 Tesla S and X, as usual. The treat was when the Model 3 showed up. I got to sit in it, close the frunk, etc. IMO it is much sexier than the S or X. I find...

Re: My Sun Trip Bike, Back to Back Tandem Trike with Rowing Generator, Pedals, +Solar

But when we used weight lifting gloves that only covered the palms and were held in place with a thin strap, it made a huge difference. Great idea. I'm going to start posting sketches of the rowing mechanism I have in mind next. But basically, the idea is that the legs will be pushing on the pulley...

Re: My Sun Trip Bike, Back to Back Tandem Trike with Rowing Generator, Pedals, +Solar

it's just because the THYS rowingbike is recumbent and has a smaller aeorodyanmic footprint. If you go back to my original posts in this thread, the motivation for having a rowing option is to mix up the exercize so we're not just sitting there spinning legs all day, rather than any specific effici...

Re: My Sun Trip Bike, Back to Back Tandem Trike with Rowing Generator, Pedals, +Solar

Question number 2? For a normal human, what is the most efficient bicycle design? Pedal or rowing? I want to transport my self 10 miles as fast as possible, using as little energy as possible. Should I buy a pedal or rowing bike? No hills but lots of wind. Pedaling is more efficient. On a flat road...

Re: My Sun Trip Bike, Back to Back Tandem Trike with Rowing Generator, Pedals, +Solar

I definitely had calluses on my hands when I was riding my rowbikes. I also wore bike gloves. Most regular folks can produce about as much effort through their arms, as they can through one of their legs. On my setup, I could adjust the kevlar cable attachment point, on the steering riser, so that t...

Warren can you spare me the search and give link to your Leaf cells build?
Do you ride on 31Ah or 41Ah Leaf cells?

Re: My recumbent cargo bike

Winter here in central Virginia was total crap. Cold, and or rain...worst winter in a decade. I was 55 days off the bikes. There were about five decent days in there, but I had cold and/or flu for all of them. Six rides, on this bike, since 03/29...466 miles, 15,727 mi total, so far.

Simple solution? Shrink the size and weight and speed of the vehicle (see "ebikes").
Bingo!

tigcross, "I keep my top speed to about 45 kph...I am always pedaling. That seems to keep the cops around here happy" Indeed. That is the secret. Going on 8 years now...two on the huge cargo bike. Stay at 30 mph and below, and always pedal, and you will be invisible. I have actually stopped, and str...

Re: My recumbent cargo bike

I was surprised to see how long it has been since I posted to my cargo bike thread. I've ridden it 1,100 miles since September, which is low for me, but the last month and a half have been crap for riding. This week, we appear to be back to our regularly scheduled, warmer than average weather. Yeste...

I already missed my opportunity. They crashed one up the road from us at the Insurance institute. The local salvage yard had all parts. I missed all the good stuff. Car has enough "modules." http://www.mandmautosalvage.com/cgi-bin/search.cgi?userSearch=exact&userPID=9198&userLocation=All+States&user...

Re: Chevy Bolt first drive

We are, in theory, on renewable power. Some energy trading scheme our electric coop found. We are paying 10% more to support somebody's "green" energy. Still waiting to be able to "buy" PV panels, that our coop will be installing, to offset all future energy use for this house, in their "solar garde...

The pack is hanging in there, still OK pulling out 20 amp hours. I have no inside track on the the new cells. Paul, at EM3ev might know. Rode the RANS cargo bike today...63 miles. Bikes are the best!

Re: Chevy Bolt first drive

We hit 7,500 miles, 50% further than our old gassers, in six months, proving the Jevons paradox. It is so fun, cheap to run, and not spewing smoke, it makes you almost believe it is "green." With the frigid weather we have been having, running the heat, we got the lifetime Wh/mile to go from 250 Wh/...

Re: Warren's 350 MAC mid-drive (finally) recumbent

Today was my first ride in a month! We were stuck under the polar vortex, but it seems to have moved on now. Saw three runners, and a ripped young gal on a MTB. Probably all UVA students. Also saw a Tesla Model X, of course. Getting within ten miles of Charlottesville, it is almost guaranteed. Did t...
