Re: Sur-Ron - New Mid drive Bike from China

tigcross, "I keep my top speed to about 45 kph...I am always pedaling. That seems to keep the cops around here happy" Indeed. That is the secret. Going on 8 years now...two on the huge cargo bike. Stay at 30 mph and below, and always pedal, and you will be invisible. I have actually stopped, and str...

Re: My recumbent cargo bike

I was surprised to see how long it has been since I posted to my cargo bike thread. I've ridden it 1,100 miles since September, which is low for me, but the last month and a half have been crap for riding. This week, we appear to be back to our regularly scheduled, warmer than average weather. Yeste...

I already missed my opportunity. They crashed one up the road from us at the Insurance institute. The local salvage yard had all parts. I missed all the good stuff. Car has enough "modules." http://www.mandmautosalvage.com/cgi-bin/search.cgi?userSearch=exact&userPID=9198&userLocation=All+States&user...

Re: Chevy Bolt first drive

We are, in theory, on renewable power. Some energy trading scheme our electric coop found. We are paying 10% more to support somebody's "green" energy. Still waiting to be able to "buy" PV panels, that our coop will be installing, to offset all future energy use for this house, in their "solar garde...

The pack is hanging in there, still OK pulling out 20 amp hours. I have no inside track on the the new cells. Paul, at EM3ev might know. Rode the RANS cargo bike today...63 miles. Bikes are the best!

Sweet looking tandem. Nice to see. Reminds me of Sheldon Brown's restored old bikes.

Re: Chevy Bolt first drive

We hit 7,500 miles, 50% further than our old gassers, in six months, proving the Jevons paradox. It is so fun, cheap to run, and not spewing smoke, it makes you almost believe it is "green." With the frigid weather we have been having, running the heat, we got the lifetime Wh/mile to go from 250 Wh/...

Today was my first ride in a month! We were stuck under the polar vortex, but it seems to have moved on now. Saw three runners, and a ripped young gal on a MTB. Probably all UVA students. Also saw a Tesla Model X, of course. Getting within ten miles of Charlottesville, it is almost guaranteed. Did t...

In the car to the Veldhoven hospital emergency room I went where they took it out and gave me two tetanus shots. That was the last time I went off roading through the high grass. You wouldn't last long in Virginia. My wife likes to garden, and typically digs out several dozen every summer, with one...

Re: Anyone use fairings? Why not...?

The problem with a fairing is that it adds weight and bulk to an otherwise very basic vehicle. For me, and most people, we don't generate enough speed to make it worth hauling up hill. Had a Zzipper on a V-Rex back in the 1990's for one winter. Great for wind chill reduction but amplified noise, and...

If so, then its commercial success (or lack of such) points out the rather weak cost benefits of fairings for most riders.
It points out that upright bike riders are the most conformist people in the world.

Back in the 1990's, this guy used to ride in many of the IHPVA races.

It seemed like the most practical, effective upright fairing going.

OK, here we are into the first week of November. October 15 is the average first killing frost. We haven't even gotten below 35F yet. Oh, well. Let's talk about cars. We went to visit a relative last week. Couldn't take the 362 miles of interstates from Virginia to Tennessee, because of one missing ...

Re: Dyson EV

Yup. Everything available is totally conventional cars, with electric drivetrains. Cool cars, for car people. The car needs to shrink until it is small enough to drown in a bathtub, for it make any difference. Something between a velomobile, and this.

Re: 80 new EV models from VW by 2025 !

Yup. Totally cynical PR. The problem is that car companies make the most money on the cheapest to produce, most polluting vehicles. And buyers benefit from lower prices, while telling themselves it must be OK, or the government would force them to buy cleaner vehicles. We get the planet we deserve.

Re: Introducing the Electrom

Glad you are back. I love your bike. Being able to get it on and off the centerstand, while seated, is very cool. Watching you pass cars on the right is a bit scary. I get right hooked occasionally, even while in the lane. Going around seems like asking for it.
