Re: Anyone charging there battery in cold room?

From http://batteryuniversity.com/learn/article/charging_at_high_and_low_temperatures Li‑ion batteries offer reasonably good charging performance at cooler temperatures and allow fast-charging in a temperature bandwidth of 5 to 45°C (41 to 113°F). Below 5°C, the charge current should be reduced, and...

Re: Anyone charging there battery in cold room?

It's not bad to keep li batteries cold, but it is bad to charge them cold. See http://endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=36720. That thread was for rc lipo but limn is the same family. As to warming from charging, the internal resistance of these batteries is not so high, so at reasonabl...

Remember that money can be made in the market whether it increases for falls. What is needed is volatility. Movement is what is needed. Go long on the rise and short the bear. Traders are comfortable either way. It doesn't matter the direction. True, the direction doesn't matter if you keep predict...

Careers in Physics?

Hi all, My son is about to enter a second-year university Physics program. We're looking for advice on careers. I know I've seen a couple of physics degrees mentioned on E-S, and maybe some engineers have worked with or know of people with physics backgrounds in their areas of expertise. He's at a t...

What are your aims for the ebike? ... is it for commuting or for off-road, some combination of these? What top speed and range do you want/need? Re: 450 watt is not 450watt it is 750watt is not 750watt

It does not have to be volts x amps -- a watt is simply a unit of power, Joules/second, energy per unit time, and the Canadian ebike law deals with the mechanical power, as the OP mentioned: "... has one or more electric motors that have, singly or in combination, the following characteristics: it h...

I got a cheap multimeter at Radio Shack several years ago when visiting in U.S: http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=4214667. It's very small and light, easily fits in my toolbag I take with me while biking, but I also use it for all home uses because it works quite well for just ab...

Re: Clueless peanut - is this even possible?

No way this could be achieved with a 250/350w motor? I've got a 350 W mxus geared motor and on 48 V it gets max speed around 37 km/hr (I forget exactly, usually run on 36 V). You wanted average 35 km/hr so I don't think that will be enough for you. Plus with such long commutes it is probably pushin...

Re: looking for exact make & model for this connector

ebikes.ca sells bags of jst-sm connectors. I just noticed that they now also sell a $34 crimper tool. Before that I never saw one that wasn't hundreds of dollars. Crimping these without a proper tool was a real pain in the ass for me, so I'm going to try the crimper. Soldering is tricky as there is ...

I have the power supplies at 27V in series (im sure I matched the voltage as best I could between them, though I did it a fair while ago) and I have the Hyperion set to 40Amps (the max) I would have thought that 700W of meanwell would have enough overhead to put out 550W to the battery. I have a 27...

The expensive lesson to be learned here is to not use the same APP connectors that I use on my bike pack and RC Lipo bricks. A few questions about other stuff to complete the kit: From what I've read, it is best not to put the controller in a bag.
