Re: QS 3000w midmotor

Why not just google the field strength and conditions needed to demagnetize a neodym magnet. I bet it would take less time than writing the speculations. Apart from that i'm with danGT86. I calculated the extra torque that this motor could give in field weakening because of the reluctance in IPM de...

nice - just got mine too, destined for my surron. they're damn small controllers for their power... about half the size of the surron controller for 4x the power!

Re: Max safe Voltage Difference when connecting two Batteries in parallel

Sounds similar to @method's approach, just using resistors. Wire length x gauge can do the same to limit current I'm told, fine-stranded boat cable, high temp insulation (silicone?) Start with a lower V delta, use an infrared thermometer, be conservative about ramping the delta V higher. . . very s...

Re: Max safe Voltage Difference when connecting two Batteries in parallel

I had to test 8s 28ah batteries for this exact situation in the past - 3 in parallel, fully charged, connected to 1 fully discharged (for worst case scenario). These were not particularly high C rate cells, and were built (series connections) with the expectation of loads no higher than 15A - so pac...

Re: Storm Bee electric dirt bike

I was hoping/wishing for $5-6k USD. Probably not going to happen. Can get used Alta for $7.5 which is still going for a premium for a defunct manufacturer. Wish I could have picked up a bankruptcy edition where I heard the Alta was selling for $5k. If the light bee is $3.5k at a third of the cost, ...

Re: Storm Bee electric dirt bike

Until they release prices and availability it's hard to be enthusiastic. The guy in the orange shirt in my picture said the MX will be sold for $ 7k In my opinion thats too expensive for the specs, maybe 5.5-6k would be closer to correct. I think this will be a very competitive market segment and a...

Thx, found the wire and cut it. It's fast and amazing now. Should the front and rear light be on the whole time, day and night? I can't see any control switch for the lights. yes, (well mine is) but i'll be putting in a switch to turn them off when not needed - ill take some photo's when i do (wait...

Re: Cyclone 3000 vs CYC X1?

If your reply was related to my comment, I think the main drawbacks of such fuses are resistance and one time use. Resistance is wasted battery energy. It can be overrated to avoid such issue somehow, but breaker is better in this regard I think. breaker should be ok <100A - but cant find any info ...

Never saw such balancer. It's like active BMS, despite all BMSs available are passive discharge balancing type. Circuit brackers can be small enough. https://electricscooterparts.com/circuitbreakers.html https://www.worldelectricsupply.com/shop/en/p/ge-industrial-solutions-thqp140-1-pole-120-240-vo...

Re: Sur-Ron - New Mid drive Bike

Sur Ron is actually in our ecosystem. We’re the largest shareholder of Sur Ron. Unless they have a controlling share (> 50%) they are just a shareholder - doesn't make Sur Ron their company anymore than owing two shares of TSLA puts Tesla in "my ecosystem". All they could do is threaten to sell the...

Re: Worm gear reducers/gearboxes?

What will you be using the gear box reducer for? The plan is a gear reduction from a Neumotor 8057 to a bike chainwheel. A wormdrive is quiet, and also offers the ability to mount the motor 90 degrees off the bottom bracket axle, which helps with the design I'm tinkering with. Also, your user name ...

Re: 19" Motorcycle Wheels vs 26" Bicycle Wheels (rim and tires)

My conversion has been taking longer than expected. First I fried a Cycle Analyst and bought a replacement. Then I decided to keep the dirt tire on the old wheel and built up a new wheel with new 5KW motor, including statoraid and hubsinks. The dropout needed to be increased to 150mm, hence I built...

Re: 4x less coasting resistance

The cogging torque resistance greatly varies with the motor design and can sometimes be substantial. I can coast roughly 3x further with a regular wheel vs a pm hub motor. That’s a lot of lost momentum I’m hoping u or anyone else can go beyond saying that lost energy goes to heat and explain how it...

Re: Same debate again, motor windings!

I wanted to check what the transitions do for a higher turn motor. Revolt rv120 has about 12cm of transitions per phase. Let’s pretend it’s star connected for simplicity :D then two phases are active at the same time with 24cm of transitions. Original winding is 5*12T of 0.8mm dia wires. If we comp...

Re: End turns bad?

I further suspect that even though the full turn of the coil does not contribute to the Lorentz calculation that this does NOT mean it has no effect, this is merely a side effect of that particular analytical approach to the solution. Both the permanent magnet field, and the coil field exist in the...

Re: Same debate again, motor windings!

end turns are still contributing to usefull flux Are they? Yes (well... afaik/iiuc) ... a magnetic field forms around a current carrying conductor. the fact that this conductor makes a right angle turn, or runs 'beside' rather than 'between' some iron doesn't change this fact. If such a turn result...
