Re: jonescg's NEW electric racebike BUILD thread!

Sweet! I can see it will be a great aesthetic match as well as meeting your goals of wider tyre & allowing more tyre choices.

That Samco is one expensive Buell

Re: Flux DIY ebike frames - pre-order/group buy

How does that work? Just tighten the shit out of it and mash the cone into the BB? Agro all the way  Pretty much  Basically. I'm not saying to over torque any cup and cone bearing interfaces but at the junction between the bb shell edge and ATS there is a ridged ring called the cone ring....

Re: Flux DIY ebike frames - pre-order/group buy

Its not a five minute job to chamfer the bottom bracket. No shit. Plus the chamfer tool is 200 bucks. That said, I think there is a shop (VoiceCoils may know) who loans out the tool and mails it for 200 bucks deposit, but then the deposit is reimbursed when the tools is returned. That was MadmanEbi...

Re: High end motors - priced out of existence?

Surely you can build a motor yourself for these sorts of prices and pay yourself for the trouble... I despair  Maybe it's time to do just that 8) Even if it ends up being a few % less efficient and/or ~10% heavier than a highly refined design, it would be nice to have control over the costs an...

Re: jonescg's NEW electric racebike BUILD thread!

Great weekend report, thanks for the writeup. The fact that Chris can hand over the keys to a 700 Volt racebike for the rider to charge and operate solo is a real testament to the good design and construction! I'm stoked to hear racing is getting tight and close with swapping leads, this really adds...

Re: E-S Stealth Electric Bike Owners

Anyway, I shared this because if save someone else 16 hours of trouble by checking the brake lever plunger screw, its worth it, even at the price of me looking like a tard. Ouch that is a touch lesson. Yep, backing out the lever adjust all the way is a necessary pre-bleed step, otherwise you...

Re: Magura MT5e (Hydraulic Brakes) for E-Bikes and Pedelecs

Magura has been making ebrake hydro's for several years. Typically they are done in production runs for OEMs only and not sold through retail channels cause the demand just hasn't been there yet. Looks like that's changing which is cool to see. I've been running the MT5 front and MT2 rear for a few ...

Re: The wheel-building spoke-lacing thread, post your tips

The newer Golden Motor MP5 wheels have a modified radial type spoking pattern to reduce the angle where the spokes enter the rim. The spokes look to have a similar angle to a regular bicycle wheel but they do not cross at all. I'm not crazy about the look, but is this pattern considered to be as st...

Re: The wheel-building spoke-lacing thread, post your tips

No, 1 cross is plenty with a large diameter hub. 2 or more cross would likely cause more problems than provide benefit.

I'm assuming your hub is 200mm in diameter or larger. If so, than the bracing angles of 1 cross with that rim and hub will be similar to 3 cross in a normal bike wheel.

No worries, just keep in mind the motor will always be spinning afterward the mod so the extra drag from it will cause you to drain the battery a bit faster.

Re: The wheel-building spoke-lacing thread, post your tips

Flange spoke hole diameter: ~3mm Eyelet hole diameter:~3.3mm Pretty hard to measure these accurately because the calliper doesn't neatly go into the hole. Will try a bit harder when I get home, just a bit hard at work. Unsure on spoke lace pattern. Spoke calculations so far have been based on 1X, g...

I've seen it done and work reliably for some several thousand km.

Your plastic/composite gears and key on the shaft will be the next weakest links.

Just be aware, even if I/we know better and refrain from carry-on RC Lipo, there’s more and more amateur photographers and FPV hobbyists flying with significant volume of this stuff. Thats a good point and the user base is really rising fast. Endless-Sphere readers are probably some of the best edu...

Re: UAV pilot travels with lipo in commercial jet, catches f

Never in checked luggage…. I often fly with good condition RC Lipo in carry on bags. What might you do with the carry on bag if it starts smoking? I really wish people wouldn't. The quality of RC lipo is just too inconsistent - in other words, untrustworthy. I know this from my own experience buyin...

Re: Welcome to the Electric Horsemen

A Moped is allowed pedals. The other componentry you mentioned has not been questioned by the engineer - but are more than suited to the application. Handlebars needed to be a min. width to pass. Nice, I'm getting really excited for you! If your engineer doesn't question those items, I'd be keen to...

Re: Welcome to the Electric Horsemen

Looking good!

Things I spot are:
*Road legal tyres, rims, horn, switchgear, lights & indicators.
*HV in orange conduit
*Isolated LV system
*S-pedalec brake levers & maybe self retracting kickstand?

Any thoughts on how handlebar/stem/forks/cranks/pedals will get treated for getting the bike plated?

Bosch supply only complete drive units (DU) to bike shops via their service partners, not internals so I do not think you will find an original Bosch reduction gear on its own easily.

Interesting to see an aftermarket gear maker.

Please don't travel by air with your hobby lipo or other haphazardly constructed battery packs! http://www.flightsafetyaustralia.com/2014/09/lithium-battery-fire-sparks-mayday/ After the fire, the passenger, who was a certified remotely piloted aircraft (RPA) operator in Australia, was located and a...
