Re: Wind and Solar vs Coal, Gasoline, Nuclear

I do not really believe in the catastrophic scenario. There are so many resource limits we can and will likely hit and global population growth may very well slow to a crawl or go negative. It is already slowing significantly. We need a couple magic technologies to surface for the growth rate to go...

Re: Wind and Solar vs Coal, Gasoline, Nuclear

Yes on both. There are clear metrics for measuring aerodynamic forces, tire friction, power inputted vs delivered through multiple components, etc. This is all very well understood, and understandably so because you have a tiny scope of things to measure, whereas modeling global climate is hugely m...

Re: Wind and Solar vs Coal, Gasoline, Nuclear

Many short term predictions from science have been completely wrong, and we still do not have a solid model for climate; just a bunch of various ones that range from pessimistic to optimistic. But really, if we had a very good understanding of all of this, there would only be one standard model. Th...

Re: Tesla Model 3

This owner's Tesla apparently massively accelerated while pulling into the garage, I don't know if it was in auto-pilot etc or not. But the acceleration was so massive that it seriously damaged the basic integrity of the battery/car-body. This reminds me of the Toyota "unintended acceleration" scar...

Ask yourself where the vast majority of CO2 is contained, and what might cause it to release more !
The vast majority of carbon on the planet is contained within the Earth. Some of it is accessible via carbonaceous deposits like coal and oil. Burning it causes it to release more.

EV efficiency - new record

My Leaf got about 3.6 miles per kwhr; my Prius Prime gets about 4.2 miles. But purpose built cars are now hitting over 29 miles per kwhr. And this isn't a trike with a formed canopy and a bunch of solar; this is a four door, four seat vehicle that comes close to being practical (top speed of ~85mph....

I recently got 2 250 watt solar panels can I use an off grid inverter to lower my power bill if I'm not interested in selling power back to my utility company (as I don't hink I'll have much extra)? No. Your choices are: 1) Get a permit and use a grid tied inverter to feed back to the grid, thus lo...

If bob smokes a blunt before work and keeps dropping pallets all day or suddenly starts having subpar output, then you need to interrogate bob and mention it and ask what is going on with him. A variety of things could be going on with bob and a manager needs to know. If a company fails to manage i...

Now we have 40% RE and 100% fossil backup. I see little problem with that. Well, 40% RE and 100% conventional backup (i.e. fossil, nuclear, hydro, geothermal etc.) So soon we'll be getting to the point where we have 60% RE and 100% conventional backup - but only 60% fossil backup, with the balance ...

Those coal and Lignite plants ramp up and down massively every day to balance the load against the variations in the Wind and solar output.
And the more solar you have, the less they have to ramp up during the day - thus saving lives. A worthy goal.

What I most want is a plug and play black box in my garage that allows the EV to be used as a power back-up during a power outage. That's a piece of cake. Install some Anderson connectors (SB175's work well) on the 12V battery and get a good 1000 watt inverter. Most DC/DC converters in EV's will go...
