Re: Akira CAD Project

Thank for the encouragement amberwolf. The project is still in the early design stage, but I have all these ideas swimming around in my head. If I do not put them somewhere then I might forget that great thought on how it should be built. I am not sure if the general discussion forum is the proper p...

Re: Akira CAD Project

A couple more for the battery enclosure, the design is evolving. The aluminium plate will probable be something non conductive, like ABS or some similar plastic. Lots of Ideas on battery box design to absorb. The tubing is 4130 and will likely be a stressed member of the frame. http://i21.photobucke...

Akira CAD Project

I have been thinking about building one of these for a long time, however I have neither the finances or the resources to do so. So I figured I would just make a cad version for now, and maybe some time in the future It could be built. So here are some renders of the project so far. None of this stu...

Re: Hi power electric ducted fans

Probably see Jeremy's post above ;) Rotrex superchargers use a turbo compressor with internal gearing, powered by a belt from the engine crankshaft. Replacing the belt and gearbox with an electric motor should make no difference to it's effectiveness as far as I can see. Except to reduce the parasi...

Re: Tig Versus Mig welding Aluminum

I used to fabricate large cantilever gates from aluminum using a mig welder. It worked well but the material was quite thick. Also as Luke said a spool gun will make mig welding a lot less of a pain in the arse. The problem being the soft aluminum wire tends to kink up inside the feed line, where as...

Re: Ezip 36v conversion help

You are correct, the newer versions of the EZip controllers are no good for 36 volts. You will need to get a replacement controller.

I live just north of Providence, alas I just recently sold my e-bike. There are some nice bike paths nearby. I like the path that follows the Blackstone river corridor.

Re: Chased by dog/ dog gets chased.

A friend of mine was riding his motorcycle one day through a neighborhood, nice and slow when a very small dog chased him. It was funny till the dog bit his rear tire and went up under the fender, around between the fender and tire, and then under the rear tire. This one made me lmao, stupid dog. Go...

Re: Ezip question

Oh I agree about the frame being a good starting point for upgrading. It is a solid frame. My problem is that I exceed the weight limit of the bike by almost 100lbs. I have been using the bike as my daily commuter to get back and forth to work, about 3 miles each way with a couple of not too extreme...

Re: Ezip question

Well I have been having a problem with broken spokes as of late, but I attribute it more to my size(350lbs) than the added weight of the extra pack. The upgraded packs are a good alternative, if you can afford them (kinda expensive imo). In hindsight, if I hade to do it over again, I wold not have p...

Re: Nuvinci developer kits for cheap

Doesn't the manufacture recommend a radial lacing pattern for these hubs? I am not saying that is the best or only way, as I understand it there are reasons for not lacing a rear wheel radially, just saying that is what I remember reading in the instructions for this hub. This snippet is taken from ...

Re: Hevy Duty Wheel build advice needed

Almost done trueing up my first wheel build and I must say I am very pleased with how it is comming out so far.
The lacing was easier than I thought it was going to be, trueing is taking a little longer but comming along very well.
