Re: Apollo 250 Dirt Bike Conversion

being so close shouldn't be an issue. if it ever hits the wheel it may just clip off some rubber :) but nothing worse should happen.

Re: Apollo 250 Dirt Bike Conversion

your chain looks too loose. even if you install a chain tensioner. the chain tensioner will only stop the lower part of the chain from hitting the frame.
but it may be that the chain gets shorter when the suspension is compressed. so maybe it's ok. can't say from here :)

Re: can you help me source this LED?

You can get 1W or 3W individual LED emitters that are only about 8mm in diameter, and that have forward voltages of about 3.5V. Three or four of those epoxied to a 24mm disc heatsink of your liking, and soldered in series, would fit in the same package and do the same job. Add a resistor or a power...

Re: Freewheel Maintenance

I had one fail when the grease got sticky and the pawls didn't engage fully. Almost hurt myself when it slipped under load. It was good after just cleaning and re-greasing. It was the kind that comes apart. i'm not sure if we're talking about freewheels inside a geared hub motor, or about the freew...

that's the point. the size is the issue. i can find LED PCBs in 20mm and 28mm size. but none with 24mm. no idea why. i know ordered the 20mm size and will see if i can fix it somehow.

the 12t is too small for sure :( great build btw! and yes, let your brother do the welding - he knows the stuff. and let him teach you how to do it, it's not that difficult. just needs some pratice. one question: how do you like the multistars? my turnigy packs are 4 years old now, and i need spares...

Re: can you help me source this LED?

unfortunately it's not. the LEDs from the link you posted are those installed in torches.i've got some of them as well.
but the one i'm looking for is quite a bit bigger. the PCB is bigger, and the LED itself is about 3 times the size. :(

For holding you on a hill you must first hold the brakes to keep the car stopped for a sec you're sure it's holding the car with the motor? i guess it applies physical brakes as any other car does (including my ice bmw, or my wife's volvo ...), and releases the brakes as soon as you step on the acc...

Re: Show off your lebowski controller

now that this thread is as offtopic as possible it will throw in my 2c as well. @electricgod: you're right. the ts-100 will never solder #6 or #8 wire. it's just too weak for it, and the tip mass is too small, so it will cool off too quickly. other than that's it's a perfect little iron. on the othe...

well, your soldering doesn't look to good. that's correct ;) but it doesn't look bad enough to fall apart!!! i don't want to go into detail now, and start a new off topic discussion. i guess it might be low quality solder and/or wrong temperatures or too weak soldering iron. maybe if you open a new ...

Re: Locking clutch/freewheel in geared hub motor for regen?

litespeed makes a valid point: if you want regen: get a DD. if you want a small package sized high torque motor for a bike: go for the MAC. the problem i see with welded freewheel: you add complexity to such a simple design, which an electric motor is, by adding gears and a freewheel, and then you w...

so it may be good that you live in a motor home, away from crowded places. using the angle grinder at night in my neighborhood and we'd have a BIG problem *lol*.

Re: Locking clutch/freewheel in geared hub motor for regen?

of course it will work. putting epoxy in it may not work though. there is a lot of grease in it. getting all that out before applying the epoxy can be impossible to do. you can easily weld it all together. but i wouldn't do that. it will add A LOT of drag to the motor if unpowered. with it's 5:1 gea...

how are you doing this while you live in a motor home? do you have a workshop on a trailer or something? ;)
taking all the welding stuff and tools with you must take away a lot of storing room.
