Re: Brushless dual 6kw ALIEN Power system - electric longboa

Some surfaces aren't suitable for skateboards. Coarse black-top, cobble stones and others need bigger, softer wheels. Or perhaps rubber tires/wheels. Urethane is too hard for some surfaces.

Re: Brushless dual 6kw ALIEN Power system - electric longboa

Well this is interesting - after clocking up over 400km on my Caliber mount (not Alien - my own beefier design predating theirs existing) I have found the 35mm wide 6mm aluminium motor plate has started to bend! I'm not sure if that's due to skating forces or creep but it seems too fast for the lat...

Re: DIY Programmable BMS (now using ATtiny/Arduino)

Yes, a very important question. Processors can crash and leave things in strange and sometimes dangerous states. Cars use processors and they go to great lengths to handle dangerous conditions. Airliners use processors and employ multiple redundancy with numerous interlocks and failsafes. You need t...

Re: Brushless dual 6kw ALIEN Power system - electric longboa

Please forgive me for saying this ... but abusing a motor in that way is terrible. If no one had yet divised a belt or chain drive, or if you lived on a desert island with limited parts, it might be excusable. Otherwise, it's just nasty. Abuse of hardware. My apologies. Just had to get that off my c...

Re: Brushless dual 6kw ALIEN Power system - electric longboa

Hey guys I posted about some custom sized battery packs a while back, with built in Bms and balancing, just wanted to post some pics after lots of testing, cells stop discharging at 3.2v this is the voltage I have picked, and cuts charging at 4.2v Looks like a great size. What are the actual dimens...

Re: Brushless dual 6kw ALIEN Power system - electric longboa

The deck is 57,4 cm long / short :-) A guy from this website made the deck: http://shop.jes-products.de/index.php/mini.html It drives very well, shorter is not good to drive but this is minimum for easy cruising. whelbase is 41 cm. Cool. That's pretty small. I've been thinking about making a smalle...

Re: Upload Your Circuit Schematics & Requests Here...

This would be a great project for one of those little Audrio things, but that's kind of overkill. It can be done with analog parts but make take quite a few parts to have all the functions. I'll see if I can come up with something simple, yet still does the desired things. I could use such a thing ...

Re: DIY Modular BMS

In order to make this more of a true "diy" project, I'm experimenting with a few different ideas. The most promising one right now is using an ATtiny microcontroller to monitor cell voltage, turn the balance resistor on/off, and send an HVC/LVC signal. Component count drops substantially, everythin...

Re: Reverse-engineering the Alien Power Systems ESCs

No wonder people don't choose engineering in school anymore Instead of employing someone companies rather use an open source design, why design something in-house when you can get a bunch of people on the internet to do it for you for free. And this creative commons or whatever it's called, there i...

So what should we look at next? Making an GPL v2 version of one of the following? Holey Truck motor mount similar to Alien Drive for 3D print or CNC? iCharger 208/4010? Led control? Cell balancing / voltage meters? Or what else do you guys feel like opening up or for us to look into further? Any su...

Re: Zero-Draw, Solid State Contactor w/Precharge (Arduino)

Hi there, first off thanks for the interesting read and ideas and the energy to build something like this! Maybe this was asked already, I skipped 8 pages: Is it possible to implement a time "usage" counter with this? Basically a clock which sums up the total time the connected battery was used. Fr...

Re: Brushless dual 6kw ALIEN Power system - electric longboa

Lol, but you certainly wouldn't want to charge up that way(regen) if that's what your thinking. Yep, regen on a skateboard isn't very useful. Was thinking I might do a trigger design that offers both the regular trigger and thumb trigger like Boosted in the one mechanism. Does that appeal to anyone...

Re: Brushless dual 6kw ALIEN Power system - electric longboa

I want a Bluetooth hand-controller because I want feedback. Minimally, I want to display a battery fuel gauge showing how much power I have left. I keep imagining displays mounted on the board -- and then covering them up with my feet. Or having to look down to see them. I almost never look at my bo...

torquboards, yes I will be using the controller as is and then repackaged if I think I can do it better. I did this with the GT2 (not b) but at some point I made a mess of the antenna. Going bluetooth and arduino for transmit and receive does deliver the sizes you are talking about but my attempts ...

Re: Brushless dual 6kw ALIEN Power system - electric longboa

I think one motor is sufficient for powering the board. Mechanical brakes on the two front wheels seem like a good choice for descending hills safely. The simplicity and reliability afforded seem likely to easily surpass motor-driven braking in almost every way. I am a little put off by the current ...

How would you implement the brakeboard with regular trucks? Pogo is cool but wish it was much smaller. I've been biting my tongue, but Pogo is so not cool. It's almost childish. Do I get a cartoon boat anchor to throw out too? Using the widely varying road surface as the friction component for your...

Re: Brushless dual 6kw ALIEN Power system - electric longboa

The only substantial difference between these units is the software. They're each just a collection of high power MOSFET transistors controlled by a small, fast, microprocessor. The software makes it all work, gives them their features. As you say they are only designed to stop a prop spinning abru...

Anyone think of using any of the other ESC's? Just curious about whether any of the airplane or heli ESCs would work or if you forsee any problems with that. Maybe even a boat ESC like the seaking (although that seems to be water cooled). Great stuff on this forum. Thinking of building me one. Just...
