Re: MAC 10T @ 36V vs 12T @ 48V??

If you want to ride off road and/or have reasonable torque at slow speeds...go with a mid drive like the BBSHD. ... I started with a 12T MAC...ended up switching to a BBSHD for off road. Experience is a tough teacher  . I run a BBS02 and couldn't be happier with it. However, he decided he was ...

With low gear ratios, a BBSHD would have no trouble. With creative use of freewheels, you can create an inexpensive "differential" for the rear wheels.

Re: New cargobike build input before purchase: 52v Gmac 26" 8T or 10T (moved from E-vehicles)

I'd go with a 10T. If you're ever moving 400 pounds (of you and cargo,) you'll want gear advantage. Wind resistance at 35 mph will be considerable. Using a motor that will only occasionally see 35 mph but suffer all other times doesn't seem like it would meet your needs. For a battery, I'd consider ...

Re: Unresponsive MAC/Infineon/EM3EV system (new build)

connect the throttle directly to the controller, with the ca completely disconnected and out of the system. that will eliminate any possible problem with the ca or it's wiring. That is great advice. I will have to give that a try. I believe the throttle input for the controller is the kind that has...

Re: Replacing MOSFETs in a Grinfineon controller.

And assuming a capable user, a bit of "how to refrain from breaking your bike" training should go a fair way? Indeed. I don't know how he ended up stopped while in the highest gear. I think going for the throttle was more out of frustration than anything else. The build for this bike has been frust...

Re: Bafang G310 vs Bafang BFSWX02. What is the difference?

I am still working on it for him. I have to replace the MOSFETs in the controller (Grinfineon 20A). His Force 3 had a manufacturing defect that caused the chain to bind and stop the wheel. He was in the smallest cog and hit the throttle while stopped (pretty much the worst thing you could do to it.)...

Re: Bafang G310 vs Bafang BFSWX02. What is the difference?

I just installed a 310 on a handcycle (Force 3). Trust me. It is plenty of power. It's amazingly quiet (can't even hear it). I am also a handcyclist. I am thinking about getting a G310 for one of my bikes, as well. The one I just did is for a customer. I would avoid direct drive hubs as it would REA...

Re: Converting a beach cruiser with front wheel motor.

On a chopper, a strong front brake can be just about as dangerous as insufficient brakes. A triple clamp fork set up low over the tire can use strong front braking. The stretched chopper forks I’ve had can’t use strong front brakes to their potential, though. The front wheel skids from anything mor...

Re: Converting a beach cruiser with front wheel motor.

I'd buy a cheap dual-crown chopper fork with a disc mount and use that with a front hub motor. I have a Nirve Cannibal with a Nexus 3-speed hub with coaster, and I welded a disc tab to the front. Stopping power for this type of bike is VERY important. One mishap would be far more costly than any bra...

Re: Bafang G310 vs Bafang BFSWX02. What is the difference?

The 310 will have plenty of power for a road bike. I recently installed one, and it's dead silent. It should be plenty sufficient for a road bike that is also utilizing pedal power. Having the wiring come out if the hub makes things a little cleaner. However, one thing to note is that the 310 isn't ...

Re: 2cycle to electric conversion

I'm also of the mindset that OP would be better off with a 1,500W (or less) motor and a big battery. Going beyond 30 MPH really starts to eat up the watts, and that gets expensive in a hurry. Especially on a bike that has both on and off-road capabilities. I assume OP's Trek MTB is a hardtail (hopef...

Unresponsive MAC/Infineon/EM3EV system (new build)

I am helping a friend install a MAC/Infineon kit he purchased through EM3EV. We hooked everything up and have been trying to test, but we haven't been able to get any action at the hub. There is a throttle and torque sensor, and both of them are showing output voltage at the CA3. However, the contro...

Replacing MOSFETs in a Grinfineon controller.

I recently delivered a handcycle to a customer after adding a Bafang/Grinfineon e-drive system. It went together well and worked BEAUTIFULLY when I test-rode it. Same for when the customer took it for a brief spin. Unfortunately, some poor manufacturing/design of the handcycle itself led to a chain ...

Re: Bafang i thin I hate you... ( HALP ME!)

For every Bafang horror story, there are probably 100 others who are happily and reliably motoring along. If you're blowing up transmissions on 900cc sport bikes (and every other ICE bike you've owned), I assume you're pushing a little Bafang motor to its limits. If you're after crazy power, get a m...

Re: Loving the ebike life but wishing for a full suspension bike...

When it comes to FS MTBs, I think the older stuff is better for e-bike conversion. Back around 2000, the downhill MTB scene was all about hucking long-travel bikes off of cliffs. Some seriously burly bikes were being produced. Since then, "standards" have changed about 20 times, so the older bikes a...

What kind of bend did it suffer? Sidewall dented? Or, was the entire rim bent? If it's just the sidewall, I'd bend it back, true the wheel, and keep running it. What type of tire/tube are you running? Can you fit a little bigger tire in there? I'd run a Maxxis Hookworm with a thorn-resistant tube an...
