Re: Using lifepo4 in a petrol car ? Which one ?

My experience with LiFePo is I made myself a simple 4s16p A123 18650 cells battery for my small 1980 Honda CM400T. It's crazy overkill in size but fits the stock battery compartment perfect so I'm not complaining. I have been using it for 3 months now and only charged it twice on my balance charger....

Re: waterproofing wires & controler , how do you do it ??

I am using a 6fet Lyen controller with the controller facing straight up/down on my bike frame. I went with a very simple and quick fix to the rain I get here in the North West USA and filled the controller with mineral oil. I have used it for a handful of months and just checking it last weekend ha...

Re: Homemade Battery Packs

Using some A123 1100mAh 18650 cells. It's a 4s7p configuration to replace my lead battery. Works great. http://i540.photobucket.com/albums/gg332/Fastdemise/616529_483768378319974_1669995860_o.jpg This is the battery while the motorcycle is at idle. http://i540.photobucket.com/albums/gg332/Fastdemise...

because it is the thinnest oil I had in my hands. very close to water!
I believe some Fork Oil is mineral oil, with possible additives and dye added to it.

This was just mineral oil from the local Walgreens. sold as laxitive at ur local pharmacy. Pretty straightforward. Nothing fancy

Re: Oil cooling your hub- NOT snake oil!

I also believe mineral oil is thicker than the ATF so what leaks I have are just small oil marks on the wires but dirt collects on it and it never spills anywhere. Just to thick once it cools. Hell, the stuff is sold as a laxative and is used in many cool computer aquarium builds. Just seems weird t...

Re: Oil cooling your hub- NOT snake oil!

Like fechter mentioned just don't overheat it. I ride a reasonably low power setting and the motor gets just to 120f in my 15mile trip to college averaging 20mph with bursts to 35mph. I use it more to keep my little 6fet cool at 2kW constant than the motor.

Re: Oil cooling your hub- NOT snake oil!

I have been running mineral oil for a couple months now. My setup is in my signature and recently went to 20s at 60amps battery and 150phase. That's roughly 4.2kW peak and 2-2.2kW continuous. Running errands ~10miles with mid 80 degree weather both the controller are just warm to touch. I prefer mi...

Re: My First public Build

Seems I found the limit of a Lyen 6fet controller. Using a 20s10Ah battery and the controller set to 60amps 150phase under hard acceleration it just cuts out and works immediately after again as long as I be careful on the throttle. With 18s set to 60/150 I wasn't having any problems. So unmodified ...

Re: Thud Does A 6FET ecrazy man mod......

I'll give this thread a bump since it has good information. I'm curious what's the most power that has been pushed through a 6fet. I'm running mine stock with no internal mods minus some thicker power and phase wires. I sealed up the controller and filled it with mineral oil on 18s Lipo @ 50amps. Th...

Re: 120% on lyen program 3 speed switch.

I had it set 120% for a month on my 12s setup. I travel full throttle everywhere and it never seemed to hurt anything. When I went to 18s and 50a I went back to 100% throttle. I hear the setting makes it run a bit more inefficient than normal when boosted to 120%.

CD welder.jpg I just replaced using a resistor with a small 15w DC-DC convertor I got from Lyen to adjust the trigger voltage just right. Just waiting on the SCR so I can start making sparks. I'll start off small with just .4F of capacitance and see what I get and test my wiring setup. Then just ke...

You just said you have a Hyperion 1420i charger. That's good for 14s and the 6v of extra juice will help your bike go that much faster. :D

I have 5mil thick so it maybe possible..... *Added* So my SCR is rated at 1600v 200a = 320kW Using the 320kW but at 16v that's 20,000A it should be able to handle?? With the math showing the low resistance of the caps able to push 12,000A. Am I wrong in thinking the SCR I have will work on paper or ...

I think that's the plan for now unless there is a descent quote from any of the local businesses that can do the tab welding for us. But I do like the idea of building it and then renting it out to others for use.

The one thing that I am liking a lot about these cells is they are not used 2nd hand stuff. They are 'old' but still in manufacturing box all neat and never used. Like I posted up above almost every cell measures 3.294v with 2 out of 24 tested measuring .004v lower. Forgiving me for soldering direct...

Hi, The price was $.65 per cell. Thats almost exactly the same as the following price on the a123 20ah pouches: Great find Doc! These are an even better price than bare cells. That's about $13.50/cell vs about $20 This is with shipping?? In this case the cells were a short 3mile ebike ride. I don't...
