Re: Back Wheel Motor vs Front

A front wheel drive makes more sense from the point of view of distributing the weight a bit better at least for normal flat roads. I used a front drive for a year and was happy with it until I started walking the bike up a winding staircase down a cliff face which had a bike trough. With the bike i...

Re: Using a MPPT solar charge controller as a bulk charger

I use the MPT-7210A with a 120 Watt 24 Volt peak (18 Volt MPP) panel to charge my 14S 18650 e-bike battery at 57.5 volts. I see output from the MPPT in the 95 Watt range in full high sun normally though it does hit 106 Watts at time. The MPT-7210A is a boost converter and can supply up to 60 Volts. ...

Re: Cycle Analyst V3 preview and first beta release

the A flag flashes indicating that the CA3 is current limiting. I tried first increasing the Max Amps to 25 from the 12 Amps I normally run with no change. What is the actual current it's reaching? I found the problem. I updated the firmware to 3.1 beta 13 which did not immediately solve the proble...

Re: Cycle Analyst V3 preview and first beta release

I have a CA3 ver 3.03 firmware, 14S battery and em3ev 6 Fet sensorless controller on a small gear motor. I'm having a problem with the motor slowing momentarily during throttle up under normal road loads. When I open the throttle the motor accelerates then backs off after about .5 - 1 second momenta...

Re: Question about sensorless controller

I used a $15 KU63 controller from BMS battery which can run sensorless or with halls. My battery was a 14S2p 18650 charged to 58 Volts. The motor is a small gear motor from Golden Motor. I ran mineral oil in the motor for cooling and 16 Amps max. The controller without hall sensors connected felt th...

Friction drive kit

Kit.jpg Kepler friction drive, Turnigy SK3- 6354 260KV motor and ESC for sale. The Turnigy 85 Amp 2-6 Lipo ESC is new and never used. Motor and friction drive used for less than 30 Km as a trial. Re: Kepler Friction drive comes of age.

I tried a VESC from MayTech on a Turnigy SK3-6354-260 motor at 24VDC with your friction drive. The VESC ran the motor fine with no load for over a half hour or so while testing with the wheel in the air. I set it up with a 10 Amp current limit. I only got about 2 Km on the road before it quit. I eng...

Re: Hall sensor issues - scope readout done, what to do?

The Hall looks like it is rather far from the magnet. All my motors have a grove\slot cut in the lamination for the Halls to sit in that insures they are close to the magnets. Your problem is more likely weak magnets or Halls to far from the magnet. I added small capacitors across the Hall inputs in...

Re: Hall sensor issues - scope readout done, what to do?

If the missing pulses have a period ... that is they skip at the same spot every revolution it may be the magnet ring is out of round and the halls are not close enough to trigger at some point in the revolution. Shimming the hall slots to bring them closer to the magnets may help. Also one or more ...

I have considered these LG cells also and bought a couple last year to test. The capacity was decent and the voltage higher than most cells. However I just found a data sheet from LG and noticed that the discharge rating below a temperature of 5 deg C is only .5 C or 1450 mA. From 5 to 45 deg C it i...

Re: Easiest battery lawn mower to convert to LiFePO?

How many sla's and how many headways to what voltage. Buck charging to what voltage ? 3 SLAs (12V.5 nominal) and 4 Headways (13.3 nominal). Charges to about 14.5V on the SLAs and 3.33V on the Headways 56 V total before going to float charge of 13.5V on the SLAs each. This is not a permanent solutio...

Re: Easiest battery lawn mower to convert to LiFePO?

Lipo it. 14s 5 ah of lipo is only about 4.5 pounds. The heavy deck will last forever and then some. But bummer if it's really heavy. I used to loath those snappers I pushed around for years. They were twice as heavy as homeowner grade mowers. My plastic deck will not last forever, but for now it's ...

Re: Easiest battery lawn mower to convert to LiFePO?

I replaced the bad #2 Lead Acid Battery with a battery made from four used Headway cells. It allowed me to finish the tall wet lawn before the Lead Acid Batteries died. I will have to charge the Batteries separately, a pain until I replace the Batteries with lithium. This mower is heavy, it has a st...

Re: Easiest battery lawn mower to convert to LiFePO?

The 48 Volt Troy mower I acquired recently has 4 x 12V 9 AmpHr lead Acid sealed batteries. My intent was to replace the Lead acid with the spare A123 pack for my bike but I thought I would test the Lead Acid first. A discharge test at 10 Amp load showed Battery #1 to be weak, Battery #2 to heat up t...

MADE IN CHINAAA hehe I guess these brushed motors are good since theres no need for a controller... Re: Easiest battery lawn mower to convert to LiFePO?

I have just acquired a Troy bilt model 188, 19" electric cordless mower. It was sold cheap as the 2-3 year old 9 AmpHr Lead acid batteries were done. What I like about it is it uses four 12V batteries in series to give 48 volts same as the pack(s) I use for my Ebike. I have an A123 pack with the 20 ...

Re: BMS battery 900w charger questions

With a HVC of 95V, what do you think the max current you could really expect out of two of these in parallel? Looks like they are really closer to 700W chargers; how much power can be safely pulled out of these without over heating? I have this unit and have tested it at 780 Watts continuous for se...

Re: Cree HP-LED Conversion & DC-DC Converter Assy

If the voltage at the converter DC output pins stays solid at 3.3V when the blinker is on but it drops by .5-1 volt at the lamp when the lamp is active then the issue is you need heavier wires. If the voltage at the converter output pins drops drops below 3.3V then the converter is operating outside...
