Re: My solar-assisted custom tricycle FOLLIES

break out the party favors, balloons and ice cream. My solar panels have finally paid for themselves! :bigthumb: They've just provided me with about 300kW of power for chargers and whatnot, whilst idle generation of an additional 2MW kept the solar systems' AGM batteries warm (I guess) I still haven...

Re: My solar-assisted custom tricycle FOLLIES

... of course I had to repair the damage the very next day, as I had to attend an appointment the day after. This included the first day of the rainy season where I got to experience the joys of riding through heavy rain and gusting winds (not that it's enjoyable, but doing so is always exciting, if...

Re: My solar-assisted custom tricycle FOLLIES

I was just thinking that it's been awhile since I installed the front motor so I probably should recheck connections between the controller, motor and battery but this weekend I was either too lazy, too cold, or doing my favorite thing, procrastinating. Come today and it's sunny and mild and whales ...

You could pin one pupil up at the top and leave the other loose, for that "derpy" look. ;)... This trike sports no front suspension. As such, as it travels down the road it's googly eyes googly very much. The trike formerly drew a lot of attention but now it draws twice as much :pancake: focus fun....

This year's modifications will, I believe, involve the application of two large googly eyes to the front windshield of MPdPM.

Re: Remote On/Off Switch for Phaserunner V2

Wow. Lots to think about here. Second could I use a switch that is rated at 12v DC (and probably much more amps than I'm dealing with) for switching the 52vDC here? Something like: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0171G7BKC?th=1 Regarding the OP's original question, would stepping down the voltage with a...

Re: Help with utility trike build

Another option would be a BBSHD motor. No issues with the brakes and you can change the gearing for more torque if you want to go up any kind of hill. unfortunately, this particular trike utilizes a coaster rear brake, precluding the use of (most) mid-drive motors unless the rear brakes are (also) ...

oh..hi! Mr Contrary here. I'm sure you're all aware that it's best practice to leave your Lithium batter mix discharged when not using it. I, being basically lazy, never do this. Speaking of weather, I doubt it locally warmed above 70F more than a half dozen days this summer. after I wrote that, the weather here has consistently stayed warm, with the nights cooling down to this summer's daytime temps (50F-60F-ish) ...it's the summer that never came during the summer! oh, an...

Re: My solar-assisted custom tricycle FOLLIES

excuse me as I show off my stupid side. I just revisited the leaf motors' spec sheet and (finally) noticed it's capable of exactly slightly over 1/2 the torque of the gear motor it replaced AND it's max power point hovers around 12 MPH. -IOW it IS a wimpy motor so the motor I has is probably a Leaf ...

Re: Workman side by side trike motor upgrade?

Hello my name is Dave... Hi Dave... Noting that a hub motor mounted in a wheel would not work at all, IMO the best solution would be adding a Bafang BBS02 -or- BBSHD kit, including those adapter thingies Chalo just pointed out and an additional battery specifically for the kit's power because I dou...

Re: common chinese controllers

high engagement on cruise could be caused by wheel size parameter ...but since you did do everything as outlined in the manual I doubt you skipped that setting and to be honest, I think you probably have a controller with a bad processor, bad programming or it's just being naughty. I vote for naught...

@AHicks> do you have the LCD3 manual?

Just wondering because all those issues you describe are addressed by parameter and controller settings via the LCD3.

Re: Workman side by side trike motor upgrade?

according to what info I could source about this trike is the motor supplied by workman is a Direct-Drive (DD) hub motor. From my own experience with a 500# trike, a DD hub motor can sometimes be "gutless" on any grade. A geared-hub motor in the front wheel would be the better choice, as Chalo sugge...

whoa, old thread comes alive (like frampton) ... ( a very old reference from a very old person) Things change, as they're wont to do and I've yet to procure an unmarked-for-wiring controller for quite a few years now. So I've yet to not "get it right" (on wiring a motor to controller) the first time...

Re: My solar-assisted custom tricycle FOLLIES

It's already time to be disgusted with my latest motor change on MPdPM. It's like, the weakest motor I've ever used including those tiny Unite brushed motors! Of course, the motor came from an unknown source and although it looks like a Leaf-branded motor I have severe doubts it is. A leaf motor spe...

Re: Current charger recomendations?

OK, got it. There's stuff happening that the meters just aren't showing us. But here's my problem/question - if the heat generated is so low that an IR thermometer can't register it, how damaging can that be? I.Don't.Know. Re: Current charger recomendations?

Not using a BMS it's almost right. The battery will continue to draw current from the power supply, which is now being converted to heat. Heat, not being a good idea for any battery chemistry should never be allowed if you like your rechargeable battery to survive forever, or 5-7 years. Is this the ...

Re: Current charger recomendations?

said stuff... And if we do have a BMS? The BMS should shut off current to the cells (if they're in balance). In fact, that's one of the main purposes to having a BMS for your battery. I don't use BMS in my battery packs because of the things I prefer, such as undercharging and balancing using a sin...

Re: Current charger recomendations?

Do the HRPs start limiting current as the battery voltage begins to equal the charge voltage? it's slightly easier than you imagine. As the battery reaches 80% (thereabouts) of it's charge it's i nternal r esistance ( IR ) increases, causing it to draw less current from the c onstant v oltage s our...
