Re: My 48v 500W Cruiser Chopper Project

Hey All, I have a little update for you all. With just on 1000km so far I am absolutely amazed with how awesome the Electric Chopper is. My car has been out of action for the last 3 months and have used the bike to get to work (9km each way). I have managed to beat my times that I would normally do ...

Re: Aussie 200 Watt Limit Thread

I think if it looks like your riding, then you'll draw so much less attention to yourself. Even with my "250w" I like to Since i'm riding around in a chopper bicycle, I do try and keep the attention as low as possible. In this way I try and pedal and don't exceed a speed that would be "possible". Co...

Re: Aussie 200 Watt Limit Thread

If you're not short of cash get yourself a schlumpf. With the 1.6x gearing they're the bees knees for pedalling at high speed. And yea I can't really see the whole portable dyno thing catching on. If they're going to go to those sort of lengths then back it up with a sensible additional moped class...

Re: Aussie 200 Watt Limit Thread

My biggest problem at the moment is the gearing on the Chopper bike means that anything more than 30-35km an hour means that I get to a point where the bike is moving so fast that I physically couldn't pedal any faster (3-4 Revolutions a second). So for me to even be able to pedal at that speed I l...

Re: Aussie 200 Watt Limit Thread

Its interesting that I haven't seen many stories of people being pulled over on here, yet there are quite a few of us electric enthusiasts. And as long as we don't get drunk drivers hooning around at 80km/h in 3kw+ bikes, I think it will stay that way. If police start catching on that people who ha...

Re: Aussie 200 Watt Limit Thread

Its self defeating to limit say a 750W motor to mainly run at 250W. That is very true, it would be nice though to be able to 'adjust' when required. I'm in 2 minds atm with getting attention. I'm thinking of getting a mountain bike in the hopes to draw less attention, but then again anything going ...

Re: Aussie 200 Watt Limit Thread

Thats very interesting, smart guy to be able to get that job for the RTA police for sure

I wonder if technically electronically limiting the motor would be adequate?

Re: Aussie 200 Watt Limit Thread

There was chatter about portable dynos being made for NSW police to carry in the boot of their cars, that was awhile ago now don't know what became of it if anything ? CA limiting should work fine, you can also limit some controllers directly The Ifineons for example can be programmed for several p...

Re: Aussie 200 Watt Limit Thread

What would the testing methods be applied to approve/disapprove a ebike on the road if someone was pulled over?

Is there any way they could take a bike that was in fact 250w? Or a 500w system that was electronically limited to 250w (and speed limited to 25km an hour) from the Cycle Analyst?

Re: Aussie 200 Watt Limit Thread

What are they going to say if a majority of the commuters use bikes with >250w of power, I wonder? Well I do believe that there are quite a few higher powered ebikes that would be used on the road that I would be confident would be better riders than some motorists. If anything i'd rather the bad m...

New Gitane Bike Project

Hey all, Well I have got the chopper going and its time i'm looking for something that will draw a bit less attention (and may be a bit neater this time round lmao) and maybe not sealed lead anchor powered. The plan is to look at getting a 500w to 1000w rear wheel kit for it and run a 36v pack of so...

Re: My 48v 500W Cruiser Chopper Project

Well the bike has been the most awesome thing ever. I've been riding it for the last few weeks. The only frustrating thing so far is having to go into the garage every night to turn off the charger once its finished. It also takes all night so if I charge from 5pm I am out there at 9-10pm by the tim...

Re: My 48v 500W Cruiser Chopper Project

2 weeks in and i'm loving this thing. Its heavy but its heaps of fun. Closest thing to a Motorbike i'll ever get (too scared to ride with traffic at that speed) Its interesting to see how wreckless some people are, one guy turned into the slip lane (from the U turn lane on the other side of the road...

Re: My 48v 500W Cruiser Chopper Project

Just came from a ride, clocked up 25km distance and only used 5 amps of riding. Should should allow me to get 50km or so with my riding. I use the motor with pedal assist to take off (mostly pedalling) and the rest of the time has been pedalling once i'm up to speed which was suprisingly easy when u...

Re: Aussie 200 Watt Limit Thread

Just having a think last night about this. After riding around at 25km an hour, I find myself too slow, yet in my offroad adventures at a family members farm i've found 35km with another "motor" considerably more fun and reasonable speed wise. With a bit of pedalling and the assistance of the motor ...

Re: Charging SLA 48v pack - 2 chargers at diff rates

I'm sorry about that, for some reason i've been a bit caught up mentally and can't seem to get my words out properly. I received 2 SLA chargers, one was bought from ebay which had a charge rate of 48v at 1.8 amps. The other SLA charger came with my ebike kit and that has a charge rate of 48v at 2.8 ...

Charging SLA 48v pack - 2 chargers at diff rates

Hey all,
I'm still enjoying the thrills of ebiking and I Realised I have 2 chargers for the SLA 48v pack, One of which is a 130w unit (1.8 amp charge rate) where the other has 200w (3 amp charge)

Is there anything bad about charging the 48v 12ah packs at 3 amp? Both of them are SLA 48v chargers.

Re: My 48v 500W Cruiser Chopper Project

A little bit of an update for everyone. Its a huge d...

Re: Aussie 200 Watt Limit Thread

I couldn't actually go back to normal pedal only cycling for the sheer fact that I find myself enjoying the scenery so much more knowing I am not dripping with sweat. I keep healthy and active in other ways and use the ebike now as a mental break from work/life and it works marvellously. Exactly!!!...

Re: Aussie 200 Watt Limit Thread

After experiencing an ebike at above 25km an hour I find that there is no doubt a lot of research put into picking this speed, it has the same feeling as doing 50km an hour in a residential area. If I remember correctly they used to be 60km in residential areas and it always felt a bit too quick. I ...

CrazyBike2 had 3x 12V 18-20Ah SLA in it's center frame for a while, and it had no problems carrying that weight. Later taht was switched to NiMH a little lighter, then a LiFePO4 around the same as the NiMH. (these days it's in a box on the side under the seat becaues the shape doesn't lend itself t...

Re: Long Range EBikes - Can it be done

Thanks for the heads up. Seems it would be more reasonable to get a lighter pack for the bike itself, maybe a 48v 15ah lifepo4 battery which should still allow me to do a decent range and then invest in a bigger 48v 20ah battery in the future for those longer distances for use in the back of the tra...
