Re: No future for charging networks ?

But you can see it coming that battery capacity per weights and cost will come to the point that a typical EV will have 1000 km or more range. At which point the range is larger than what can be driven in a single day. So then theoretically, when you start out with a full charge in the morning ther...

Re: Wind and Solar vs Coal, Gasoline, Nuclear

But no, if you track the actual price of electricity by the hour, the amount of solar or wind being generated has little effect on the price. If you have access to similar stats for your area I'd take a look at them and be able to tell you. For Germany the merit order effect of solar PV alone is 4,...

How would you roll out heat pump technology for apartment buildings ? There is also limited room for solar in many of them, as they're built out vertically to 12-15 stories to save land. The example was about a house. Heating of apartment buildings is similar to heating of houses. You just use one ...

I find the bit where the ABC report speculates that Australia is a dumping ground for bad solar panels, like the Chinese are deliberately targeting the subsidies and all the government money handouts for wind/solar renewables, I think that claim is a bit of a conspiracy theory, I think this is just...

Passive house and/or ground source heat pump 1500kWh for the heat pump + 500kWh for hot water (via heatpump) +2000kWh for household applications, lights, etc... (+3000kWh for electric car) So 4000kWh or 7000kWh incl a car for such an efficient house and one year. It could be even less in a flat. on...

Energy payback on a PV panel is about 2-3 years in a sunny latitude - will link the paper in question tomorrow. Even lower today for utility solar. Can be even below 1 year in best case scenarios Energy payback on a 4 MW wind turbine in a windy spot is about 5 years - likewise will find the paper t...

Fun thread. Alternatives are great but good luck getting a Boeing 777 off the ground with solar. You need some pretty big sails on a freighter. You can use biomass an syntehtic fuels for those. Just don't waste the stuff for cars. You can't tax carbon without shooting your economy in the foot. Even...

Interesting, because Mylar is not an ideal reflector for visible light. Simple white would do better.

When you exclude Tesla and “some Chinese” EV producers, you are excluding MOST of the current EV production. But OK, keep your Eurocentric view, Yes, that's our view and here Tesla had an EV/PHEV market share of 3% in 2018, Chinese car makers are close to zero. If you have actual data in similar qu...

graphite could be temporarily. Otherwise Lithium itself and cobalt. Nickel is mainly used for stainless steel like V2A or V4A. Price has always been very volatile, the last extrem spike has been up to 50,000USD/t in 2007.
