Re: Observed trials bike designing

Indeed. That's funny about being able to restart if there's an e-trials in the class! Certainly doesn't happen that way here in Australia, nor in Germany from what I hear from a friend over there. Trials is such a rare riding style here in the US that I think they will take whomever they can get. I...

Re: Observed trials bike designing

I was at a trials competition recently and I asked the riders about the rules regarding electric bikes. They said in some sanctioning bodies an electric bike in the group gives all the riders an opportunity to restart their bikes without a any points. As for the idle stuff. I'm sure its nothing for ...

Re: Observed trials bike designing

For this style of riding the braking needs to be too precise for it to be combined with the hydro levers. The chain slack would also be a problem compared to caliper braking at the wheel. Sometimes the rider needs to slip the clutch to keep the chain loaded while the wheel is stopped on an edge. The...

Re: Observed trials bike designing

Very cool bikes! wish I had the money to get one. It looks like they have included some of the control options and strategies that we have been talking about. I love the tick-over/idle feature. I bet that was hard for the designers of the bike to tune for the right feel. The regen lever is a cool id...

Re: Help with disc thickness? BR-MT200

This makes more sense now. Thanks for the physics lesson. To recap what I think I have learned: Basically if I put a torque wrench on the disk flange and then apply torque to the wheel it doesnt matter at what radius I'm holding the wrench. The reading will be the same. However, if I'm not strong en...

Re: Help with disc thickness? BR-MT200

Oh dear !.... you seem to be forgetting basic mechanics and Torque reaction... As someone else mentioned , the torque loading is that generated by the tyre diameter and rate of retardation,..it is independent of disc size Brake squeeze pressure is pretty much irrelevant . What the rider is concerne...

Re: Help with disc thickness? BR-MT200

Additionally Not all states of locked rotor are equal. If a wheel is locked and skidding down a muddy trail and then the tire catches on a rock really well the instantaneous torque spike might simply overcome the locked pressure a caliper can squeeze on a 160 rotor. That same scenario on a 203mm rot...

Re: Help with disc thickness? BR-MT200

beware of magura rotors. They are 2mm thick and most other manufacturers have been using 1.8mm rotors. The braking stress is torque on the mount at the forks or frame. The larger the dia of the rotor the longer the lever so the more torque the frame or fork mounts are experiencing. For a given amoun...

Re: Observed trials bike designing

Tech is always evolving. This all just further demonstrates how its a spectrum and you could draw your line arbitrarily at any point and say any technology past this point is cheating. The other day I was reading about honda's CR series of mx bikes in the 90s. Apparently they implemented a primitive...

Re: LightningRods mid drive kit

Thanks so much for this, very helpful. In this scenario So what if a cargo trike is **slowly** pushing 400-500lbs up steep and long mountain roads? Not giving a fig for acceleration much less top speed Assume all the amps in the world, motor temp protection from a sophisticated controller or CAv3 I...

Re: LightningRods mid drive kit

To many it may seem criminal, but could the LR build be done at 36V? I'm tired of BBSxx series parts supply issues. Silly? I dont see why not. The rpm/volt of these motors is in the 60s. The new ipm motors respond well to field weakening also so depending on your controller you could get more rpm t...

Re: Reevo : The Hubless E-Bike Style, security & safety for the modern urban cyclist.

Navigated to the site on my own rather than click a sketchy link. Looks to be a real bike. $2700USD for a complete ebike with lighting, GPS tracking, and phone connectivity does not seem out of line these days. Biggest concern for me if I were in the market would be the durability and non standard p...

Re: LightningRods mid drive kit

DanGT86-One of my regular customers picked up an LMX with a bad battery pack. He’s upgrading the battery and installing my XL IPM motor with a BAC4000 controller. He’ll have twice the torque plus twice the rpm. Should be pretty exciting I'm sure it will be quite the upgrade. I'm a huge fan of singl...

Re: Observed trials bike designing

Something I have been wondering about with this is the current ramp up time. Controllers limit the rate current is allowed to raise. So whether you went full throttle or dumped a mechanical clutch the current ramp up time and thus torque ramp would be very similar. Obviously the mechanical energy in...

Re: LightningRods mid drive kit

Don't want to derail this too far away from your specific products so I'll be brief. That's good news about your IPM motors and halls. I have an LMX motor similar to your old small block and experimented with different physical hall placement using a Nucular. I put the halls on the shaft outside of ...

Wow!

If everything they say in that video is true then that is a really nice bike. The whole time I was thinking they were going to say it costs $20k.

Does anyone want to give me $12k?

Re: Mid drive concentric bottom bracket

I think you would be fine using a common BB mid-drive on this setup. The BB shell does appear to extend beyond the bearings. If it did not then It would possibly bind with any external bearing bottom bracket which is most of them these days. As for other bikes using this concentric pivot design: DMR...

Shimano ZEE crankset 68-73mm 175mm

I bought this crankset and decided I would rather try shorter cranks. Its been opened but never installed. All of the parts are included in the original box. It includes a shimano external bearing bottom bracket and a 36 tooth chaingring. Shimano's ZEE is designed for downhill and is super strong. T...

$250 Dont be shy! Make offer! For sale here is a used Giant Suede Ebike. It has a torque sensing bottom bracket and a hand throttle. I tested it with a 36v 10s pack to make sure it works. Everything seems to work fine. It has a top speed around 20mph. I'm guessing it will cost about $100 to ship in...

Re: Ride1up Core-5 brake upgrade to 203mm adapter help

Just came across this thread. Looks to me like your brackets might require the CPS washers that avid uses on their brakes. Washers are probably fine too but its a least a possible explanation as to why they didnt fit.
