Re: Rip out my value stem and crashed

I have one bike setup tubeless. It feels great but I'm not sure I would do it with a bike I don't ride often. The sealer needs to be replenished every few months or it dries out. If its a bike you are going to store all winter then its easy to forget. Once the stuff dries out I think its a bit of a ...

Re: Rebuilt kids electric cross to 3000w

Yeah. My guess is that above the 2v per second the amps are spiking higher than your 3000watt limit for a tiny fraction of a second and causing the ca to cut throttle. If you have the skills you could go full throttle uphill at faster than 2v/sec and while looking at the display to see if the status...

Re: Rebuilt kids electric cross to 3000w

Glad to hear the setup is working well. Being able to use the Pot and buttons together is something I didn't know was an option. Thats really great. The throttle cut over 2v/sec is weird. Are you sure there is not a max amps or max watts setting enabled somewhere? If you have an amp or watt limit se...

Re: My first of several stupid questions

Yes you can increase the charge rate for more cells in parallel. So your 5p pack can be charged at 1.7 x 5 = 8.5 amps and still be at the manufacturer recommendation. Same thing goes for discharge rates. So a cell good for 20amps discharge current would be 100amps in a 5p pack assuming your pack is ...

Re: Rebuilt kids electric cross to 3000w

Good news. Looks like you can now use the AUX button to limit the throttle output in volts. This will give you speed control without having to deal with speed gain settings! This is probably the quickest way to eliminate the oscillations. You should watch that vid from the beginning because it shows...

Re: Rebuilt kids electric cross to 3000w

Capped the speed at 25km/h atm for testing purposes and it seems full throttle and it kinda holds the 25km/h limit but very jittery, what could be the cause of this? Or is it intended? The jittering is due to the PID control strategy. This is what Fechter mentioned earlier. You can tame this with g...

Re: Rebuilt kids electric cross to 3000w

My responses in red You're super helpful!! You're awesome btw, thanks a bundle! Thanks. I don't have any projects going on lately. Its fun to watch something improve so I'm enjoying the process. I tried setting it to 5V per second and that flips the bike with me on it, same on 3V but I kinda like it...

Re: Rebuilt kids electric cross to 3000w

Using any precharge setup in parallel with this switch will negate the spark problem. I guess with a pre charge resistor connected first the switch is never seeing more than a couple of volts at the moment of contact? I think I run a 200ohm precharge resistor with my 84v max battery. I usually see ...

Re: Rebuilt kids electric cross to 3000w

Ive always been tempted to try a marine circuit breaker for main power. I worry about the spark from 75v killing them but like Amberwolf mentioned not being under load probably helps a lot on the arc. Dixonk, you probably need to look at building a pre-charge circuit or using an anti-spark connector...

Re: Rebuilt kids electric cross to 3000w

I assume you mean .45v/sec on the throttle up speed? If so try increasing that until you get the acceleration you are after. One of my bikes is at 5v per sec. At some point that will be so fast it will feel like it used to before the CA. I think the fast throttle up must have speed signal working to...

Re: Rebuilt kids electric cross to 3000w

The controller might have a maximum closed throttle baseline level its looking for to make sure the throttle is not open at start up. May be a safety feature to keep it from powering up and running away. Perhaps your minimum throttle out was above that threshold. Like most things you just have to sn...

Re: Rebuilt kids electric cross to 3000w

The way I have my brake setup with the CA is the brake switch wires split and one set goes to the controller and the other set goes to the blue and ground wires of the CA. If you have it correct the CA main screen will show the brake lever icon moving when you pull the brake. Its a good idea to let ...

Re: Rebuilt kids electric cross to 3000w

You probably dont need the potentiometer and the +,- aux button. I believe they are different versions of the same thing. Not to overwhelm you but you probably want to hook the brake lever signal into the CA as well. Its a good idea for the CA to know the brakes are on. Does your controller have reg...

Re: Rebuilt kids electric cross to 3000w

That is weird behavior regarding the software. If you cant get to the bottom of that quickly you can change settings at the device with the two buttons. Hold the left button down for a few seconds and it will enter setup menus. Then you can scroll through the settings. I believe you hold the left bu...

Re: Rebuilt kids electric cross to 3000w

You'll be fine. Just go slow and double check things. The Pass thru wires from the shunt are where you will find your throttle output wire. It should be green. This is what will go into the throttle plug on your controller. That should be the only signal the controller needs for the throttle. The Cy...

Re: Rebuilt kids electric cross to 3000w

Hopefully you bought this shunt. shunt.jpg This is from the end of the user manual in the link you have. Wiring .jpg You will want to wire your throttle handle into the CA throttle input by matching the 5v, signal, and ground wires to the throttle input plug on the CA. For this you will unplug the t...

Re: Rebuilt kids electric cross to 3000w

I think it would do fine on gravel and hard pack dirt roads. I don't think its going to break it. The performance is not ideal because of the suspension action. I would not recommend it if you were building an offroad bike from scratch. I have ridden my large direct drive hub motor on single track o...

Re: Rebuilt kids electric cross to 3000w

The CA programming seems overwhelming at first. Just remember you don't need all of the features. Since your goal is to simply limit the throttle ramp that is an easy task. Just set all the other limits high enough so they arent being used. I always apply new settings with my wheel in the air just i...

Re: Rebuilt kids electric cross to 3000w

Since you are OK with the total amount of power but just want to tame the throttle ramp I would suggest removing all the power limits thru the CA3 and setting the throttle in Pass-thru mode. This will eliminate some of the more tricky gain settings that come into play when you are actually trying to...

Re: Combining 2 hub motors into one?

Cool. So assuming I grab 2 phases at random to do this test. The positive and neg from my DC source makes those 2 phases unique and the 3rd phase is not used in the test. So does this mean all the info I need to parallel them is all gained from just one test? So just to check my understanding here. ...

Re: Combining 2 hub motors into one?

If you only have two motors, well... you're going to need at least two wheels. I don't see the need to conjoin these twins. Sorry, I forgot to mention its going to be used as a mid-drive. My kids have one of those mongoose dirt-bike "bicycles" with the brushed currie/razor looking motor. ...

Re: Combining 2 hub motors into one?

Cool.

It would be nice if one controller ran the whole thing because I have several controllers laying around here. Sadly they are all different sizes. Buying a dual motor VESC is a $200-300 solution for my "free" motors.

Re: Combining 2 hub motors into one?

I was thinking so much about the stators earlier I may have been overcomplicating it. When you mentioned magnets it clicked. All I really need to manipulate for my dual controller experiment is the rotors' position. So if I build in enough adjustment to clock them by one whole magnet width I can try...

Combining 2 hub motors into one?

I ended up with 2 identical 8" scooter motors. I know they arent the best motors in the world but they were free so I'd like to experiment with them. So my plan is to machine a new shaft and combine them into one motor. I'm figuring 2 controllers is best. So here are my questions about doing so...

Re: Observed trials bike designing

Doesn't that just take us back to the problem that when you suddenly demand a big, fast current increase it simply isn't available? Such as when you bring rpm up (no load so low current) then drop the clutch (big sudden current demand). Or am I misunderstanding what you have in mind? It might take ...
