Re: Lightweight AWD Sportscar

Tooth centers are high flux change areas. Somewhere in the non magnetic path area of the tooth base look to be much better.

Re: Specific heat absorption capacity of disc brakes

Thanks for finding these. No problem. Like the idea of dual rotors, have been playing with the idea and glad you posted as we have many near moto requirements here that can test these lightweights out for suitability. Even if you need to get some outer rings water jet'd out a bit more heavy duty, t...

Re: Specific heat absorption capacity of disc brakes

Origin looks to be fully symmetrical, but possibly some cbore at the mounting screws. Not sure outer slots on the lower cost option would be a issue. KCNC also with a nice lightweight design. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Origin-8-SpeedCheck-Two-Piece-Disc-Rotors-Brake-Part-Disc-Rotor-2p-6b-203mm-Bk/2825...

The Ashima looks to be more symmetrical at the float points.

Brakco? Closer to a bi directional design. Float points and outer slots not.

Re: electric trial bike

I see no need for a flywheel Certainly not if the rotor has a major amount of mass, you would have one already built in. Something with a rotor skeletonized like a Joby would possibly improve with the addition of some rotational mass when bumping the clutch. It may be best when attempting vertical ...

Re: electric trial bike

The combination of significant weight reduction, super torque of a electric motor, several reduction selections, and good sized flywheel and well behaving clutch will most likely make this a whole new level of trials performance capability.

I can see a need for better wheel-tire locks.

Mine did not set the changes reliably unless I disconnected the battery also. I went out and looked closely at my setup. Your correct. Orange is the ignition and the one I got good results when restarting controller to set program changes. The purple I have hard wired in now and was also a issue and had my memory a bit confused. Sorry about that. I was disconnecting the batte...

Purple wire on mine. It is called different things on different data sheets. Looked at the sheet I was using in the shop and has it listed as ignition wire.

Re: Sabvoton 72150 Programming Problems

I was having the same issues until I used the key switch wire to shut it down (reset) vs the main power connection. It has been relatively reliable on saves since for me. Hall test still fails. Runs good regardless. I have some new hall sensors to install next time I pull the motor apart if I find t...

Nice looking battery. https://insideevs.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/12/chevrolet-bolt-powertrain-1_004-750x430.jpg Nice low profile of cells will allow fit into many secondary apps. Re: Potential Catastrophic Frame Failer Averted ….sort of.

Why would anyone put patch tape on a nice titanium frame? It is a simple weld fix. You dont even have to paint it. Silly, really. Any distortion can be taken care of easily by a good mechanic. It does point to a weakness in using straight gauge-diameter tubes in a progressively higher stress ...

Re: Potential Catastrophic Frame Failer Averted ….sort of.

After giving it a good think, I have decided to retire the old Liahana frame. I agree, it served it's purpose and gave me many miles of dependable riding. Glad you found a good older frame at a reasonable price. Big Name brand also. Nice space for batteries. Like the added plate where your old one ...

This entire thread reminds me why so many bike people have been also plane people (going WAY back....): Way back, before planes and bikes. Riding and flying are the same in ancient languages, and it was a tradition to give bird names to the best horses. Interesting derivation in the language. I alw...

I ride my circa 1150 gram (54) full carbon frame cross bike on some well worn rocky bike trails also with many of the mtn bike group in the fall. Not racing any longer, but still can stay with many of the fast guys on the climbs. Bombing the down hills, is difficult to stay with them unless it is so...

Re: Potential Catastrophic Frame Failer Averted ….sort of.

Now that we are deep into the armchair failure analysis , I am not too sure it is a weld void or over weld type defect. To me it looks to be a classic hi weld bead angle causing stress concentration at welds edge in the tube. A bit of finishing with a hand file or grinder as done on the old sch...

Re: Potential Catastrophic Frame Failer Averted ….sort of.

If you're re-welding aluminum that's already been welded and heat-treated, you've already lost the game. Is that frame even heat treated? May not be. Do we even know what alloy it is. Certainly a can of worms. Regardless, welding requires proper bead formation, weld prep and correct amounts of pene...

Re: Potential Catastrophic Frame Failer Averted ….sort of.

Don't band aid the frame. If you want to just fix it, you want to weld it and add lots of material (fillets) to cover much further out onto the tubes. I would fold a section of aluminum sheet and add it as a gusset also that connects the top down and head tube to it also. Many years ago they learned...
