First, decide how big and how many hours- jobs you need it for and cypher if it pays to own vs rent.

Re: Observed trials bike designing

The regen lever looks like a afterthought imo. May make marketing sence, but agree, it should be incorporated into the existing controls. Looking for the first one to come in with a variable flywheel mass control. Separating that from idle speed, would allow tremendous amount of variety to impulse p...

Re: Observed trials bike designing

The carbon look is cool. Some sections (fork covers) appear to be carbon or carbon wrapped plastic. The frame sections are plastic tape with carbon or carbon look facing. Frame is near identical setup to gassers. Looks like they set the bar for folks to follow. Word is that the other major brands ar...

Re: DD hub Magnets rubbing Stator after adding Statorade

Sounds like the stator may have also slipped or gotten distorted on the axle if it was less than perfectly snug. Clip holding it in place? Side covers if not machined snug will not hold rotor position with enough precision for close fits. Not sure the magnet ring on most would hold shape once the co...

Re: DD hub Magnets rubbing Stator after adding Statorade

Unfortunate, Hopefully you can figure it out and not have to replace the whole thing.
"Well, the only thing I changed was adding the Statorade."
Did you disassemble the motor to put the Statorade in it or did you use- drill a hole?

Re: DD hub Magnets rubbing Stator after adding Statorade

Are you able to take some accurate measurements? That would most likely help zero in on the roundness, runout and squareness of the interfering parts and spot what exactly is causing the issue. IMO You may want to change the tile of the thread also as nothing so far can be rationally attributed to s...

Side cover bent or machined off center? Should be measurable if its bad enough to cause rubbing.

Re: DD hub Magnets rubbing Stator after adding Statorade

Same side variance. The dish side will be significantly lower. 1100 is good if your rim can take it. Much lower and the dish side will be relatively slack and weak. Still would try to get a indicator on the rotor some way. From your sketch of the stator, it looks like the stator is not perpendicular...

Re: DD hub Magnets rubbing Stator after adding Statorade

I measured spoke tension with a tensiometer. Wondering how many KG was on them and what was the range of readings. If they varied more than 30% or so and you then removed the motor side covers, I could see it mess things up in a big way. I don't think ferrofluid would or even could have anything to...

Re: DD hub Magnets rubbing Stator after adding Statorade

The rotor needs not only to be round (not egg shaped) but also concentric with the axle or you will quickly run into envelope issues with something like this. Not sure if you can put a dial indicator on a machined part of the rotor that parallels the magnet mounting surface to see what you now have....

Sounds like you may have made things worse by playing with the tensions and need to true the rotor a bit now.

Re: Are footpegs superior if you don't pedal?

As far as pegs and pedal placement for control goes, this is a great example of positioning them in the worst possible location. Rider is also in a "inverted turtle" position. This whole setup should be relegated to three wheels minimum. Reminds me of riding a tandem with a out of sy...

Wondering if by chance you have kept track of spoke tension? I could see that messing with roundness and runout in big ways.

Interesting development in fuel tanks. Many have been extended to lower and more centralize bike mass. Pictured is one that looks like what many are using now.

Interesting. Wondering if the oil through capillary action may have "Jacked" a loose magnet or one with significant gap in the bond area as it would in a unsealed or cracked composite structure.

Re: Ford/Chevy using BW HVH250-115 hairpin motor

Rectangular wire can increase copper fill by some 15- 20% in theory and also allow significantly higher heat dissipation due to its added surface area. Also better with higher frequencies. Been the standard for high power transformers and motors for many years now.

Re: Are footpegs superior if you don't pedal?

I watch a little of it and its interesting to watch the expensive rigs fly over the bumps with the suspension bouncing and the vehicle body moving very little but thats what they paid for now go watch the bums in their cheap vws and jeeps doing the race if there is such a class for dakar like there...

Re: Are footpegs superior if you don't pedal?

Anyone catching the DAKAR. Interesting watching these guys fly along standing tall on the pegs intermittently while flying along in some extremely varied terrain. Higher and further back is where I see them reaching for when things get a bit squirrely. The 450-500 class is smoking it.

Re: Maximum motor temperature

The magnets don't change polarity, and only respond to the changing field so they should not heat in the same ways as the stator iron. When they get weaker, you would see a KV shift and have lower max torque and higher no load RPM.

Re: Observed trials bike designing

I think most of us welcome honest improvements in design. The mapping choices are a interesting option on a race bike. Nice to have the WFO option when you can take advantage of it. Nice saddle and hand grip setup also. Quick shift also nice for keeping the tranny from added abuse. For a trials bike...

Re: Are footpegs superior if you don't pedal?

It is looking more clear to me that pedals would add a significant advantage in range of rider motion -loading even if you do not use them to power the bike much if at all. It would require that you put the correct one in place and mostly load one leg, but still of some significant advantage. Pedals...
