Re: Lebowski's motor controller IC, schematic & setup, new v2.A1

Uhm actually the measurement I got was all over the place but almost never that low. Amber DID NOT CALCULATE THE DEAD TIME CORRECTLY. This will cause miss readings in the resistance and all kinds of other problems. The dead time is determined by math based on all the worst case scenarios this is fo...

Re: Lebowski's motor controller IC, schematic & setup, new v2.A1

I think that there is something fundamentally wrong with your setup if you are getting 6.66 mOhms for motor resistance. The resistance posted by Arlo for the Gen1 motor is over 20mOhms which agrees with the figure I get for the gen2 motor. Also I think you are asking for trouble setting 500ns for de...

Re: Controller suggestions??

Being sensorless I would expect it to run with any phase wire combination but you could try this: You know that Yellow --> Black, Blue --> Blue, Green --> Brown does not work. Try each of these in turn: Yellow --> Black, Blue --> Brown, Green --> Blue Yellow --> Brown, Blue --> Blue, Green --> Black...

Re: Controller suggestions??

The "ignition" connector contains two small wires, one red, and one orange. The red has battery voltage on it and the orange has nothing. When I jump them together my CycleAnalyst powers up but nothing else happens. Proving beyond doubt that the red wire on the ignition connector is directly tied t...

Re: Sevcon display

I think member frodus is working with someone else on this, try contacting him. The guts of it is you need a CAN transceiver on your RP to read the sevcon data and convert it to a graphical display. There are CAN shields for Arduino that would work along with the OBD2 library you can decode sevcon C...

Re: Lebowski's motor controller IC, schematic & setup, new v2.A1

Tesla small drive board uses large igbts??? Symantecs, the 1MBI600U4B-120/1MBI800U4B-120 bricks you use have more than one IGBT in them despite the datasheet showing only one. Some 3 phase modules I have looked at have 36 IGBT elements within them. Tesla uses a massive array of descreet's that must...

Re: E-Bike XB-502 conversion project

Flux weakening to be very effective needs lots of exposed iron on the armature. An IPM inrunner is best for FW. Otherwise FW has a small effect. The controller can do FW, but it's not on since it provides a small increase in motor RPM. FW increases phase current and reduces motor efficiency. There'...

Re: Lebowski's motor controller IC, schematic & setup, new v2.A1

I tried some more with Emrax and i am convinced that motor should be run at 12Khz or even 15Khz PWM. There is much less noise there. However 15Khz was somewhat more jumpy or so it seemed. Option n didnt change a lot. Higher PWM made it better. With 75a field weakening i arrived to 5500rpm! Bear in ...

Congrats, impressive work. I trust we will see a fully laminated DC bus. Looking forward to seeing if Arlin can beat his own world record with this controller. And the million dollar question is how much for a fully built inverter?

Re: Lebowski's motor controller IC, schematic & setup, new v2.A1

Freq and all parameters are the same as Arlo setup in his video. That is 6kHz. Well for dead time i experimented with Johannes brain and my ACIM motor in my car. The best value for me was 1.65uS and it works now for my Leaf motor also. I dont use any isolation stage since Volt as its own isolation....

Good job, and it looks like you tracked the case elctrification down to a phase wire shorting to the case of the inverter. What PWM frequency and dead time are you running with the Volt inverter power stage?

Re: E-Bike XB-502 conversion project

If your only problem is top speed, can't you find a way to do flux weakening? I don't know what controller you're using, so maybe it's not possible on yours, but I think that's the only way you could have both torque and top speed without having to use a mechanical gearbox. Flux weakening to be ver...

Re: Lebowski's motor controller IC, schematic & setup, new v2.A1

I have measured between the HV bus and the inverter case on my Volt inverter and there is no connection on either terminal. Hi all I have recently made a Lebowski board to run Leaf EM61 motor off 360Vdc. https://endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=30&t=36602&start=1700#p1456329 It can run sensorless quite good, but i am concerned i will have trouble starting a car uphill. Leaf motor has resolver at the back. This ...

Re: Lebowski's motor controller IC, schematic & setup, new v2.A1

You raise a legitimate point. If you look at the original Volt brain you can see that the voltage sense area of the PCB has no ground plane or internal layers. I am following the same principal and have a keepout zone around the battery voltage sense circuitry and the phase feedback and the clearan...

Re: Lebowski's motor controller IC, schematic & setup, new v2.A1

Also I was thinking of making isolated phase feedback reading on my board. So from what i see controler brain needs only digital signal with less than 2.5V meaning 0 and higher up to 4.9V meaning 1? Would that work? Or is there some rising edge function? I could make this work with some isolated ci...

Re: Lebowski's motor controller IC, schematic & setup, new v2.A1

That is great news. I took a look at your DesignSpark files and it appears to me that you are not using any phase feedback to pins 5,6, & 8 on the 30F4011 brain, is that the case? If so that begs a question for Lebowski, can the brain chip commutate the motor in sensorless mode without phase voltage...

Re: SPM VS IPM Motor - And Field weaken, is it worth it

I may be missing something Lebowski, but I think you might be able to get another big chunk of low end torque out of the LEAF motor with using a reluctance table with an experimentally derived deviation from dVI relationships that has an offset to leverage pulling on the motor iron sooner. The Lebo...

I am in the market for an adapter plate for a gen2 leaf motor to ZF 5 speed gearbox as used on the BMW e36 M3 & 328i. Are you aware that the inverter mounting bridge on the gen2 EM57 motors means a bellhousing type arrangement rather than a flat plate must be used? Do you have anything or do you cus...
