Re: Axiom: a 100kW+ motor controller

You don't need to pay someone to design one, we provided all the schematics and bill of materials (which means you can go part by part to see where the costs come from) so the design is already there for free. The IGBT, capacitors, bussing, enclosure, heatsink, connectors, sensors.. these things cos...

Re: Axiom: a 100kW+ motor controller

Where can I purchase one of these motor controller for my EV project Nowhere yet. We're still testing and validating. And I am still designing the enclosure. We work on AXIOM in between contract work which explains why its been a long time to fruition. But its coming :) There's only one more techni...

Re: Axiom: a 100kW+ motor controller

AXIOM was designed for 800V absolute max DC voltage (will require a 1200V rated cap which we are in the process of custom making but haven't actually received it yet). this means the applied voltage is lower because you have to leave room for transients and normal voltage overages and stuff. what ex...

Re: Axiom: a 100kW+ motor controller

Have you had any beta testers successfully integrate an Axiom board with unique inverter electronics? ahh.. you're wondering if someone took the power electronics from typical EV. removed the brain board and inserted AXIOM? no, none of our customers have done this that i know of as they are all usi...

Re: Axiom: a 100kW+ motor controller

1. see block diagram on first page 2. i think the design started before AMC1311 existed. its hard to believe but i posted the original embodiment of this design i think back in 2012?? something like that. if i remember, my original design used differential op-amps in a special configuration to manag...

Re: Axiom: a 100kW+ motor controller

designing the enclosure with integrated cooling today. its not ideal because i'm dealing with constraints.. shown below is the bottom where the coolant flows (there will be a waterproof coverplate not shown). the otherside is where the IGBT modules sit, that side will have a flatness spec. this is a...

Re: Axiom: a 100kW+ motor controller

Out of curiosity, how does Axiom get the cold plates specified for operation?
quick answer... we know the power dissipation and where that power is dissipated. we know the capability of the cold plate to reject heat when fluid has a certain flow rate and temperature. and poof.. just like that.

Re: Axiom: a 100kW+ motor controller

Do you know how many people have been making derivative works of your schematic? we've never bothered to look. just keep in mind, we spend about a year coding up VESC modifications necessary to make the real high performance stuff and not all of those modifications were pushed to the open platform....

Re: Axiom: a 100kW+ motor controller

Understood that solving this would be a large task or a large check. Makes me think about the possibility though. its a hard task but not impossible. there are MANY ways to do parameter estimation, benjamin chose one that worked for him. but there are many other ways, perhaps one of these other way...

Try calling some of the sellers on Ebay, many are most likely junk yards and would ship to you. Best to find one with two and make them an offer. I see plenty of them for sale. i've tried that before. $1200 CAD + 668$ shipping. its why i started all this motor controller stuff with induction motors...

Re: Axiom: a 100kW+ motor controller

there is a 100% chance this MTPA feature will make it to VESC (@marcos) actually, its more like 99% as we don't actually decide what gets included. we send to benjamin all of our basic stuff that is needed for the bigger power and most of the stuff needed for higher performance. but its up to...

Re: Axiom: a 100kW+ motor controller

maximum torque per amp (MTPA) now fully implemented. makes a very obvious improvement in power production for IPM motors. this first version was very simply implemented. it basically takes the user's total torque command and splits it up into two components, a "direct" current and a "quadrature curr...

nothing that complicated, just textbook stuff. its meant to be open source afterall ;)

the block where you add/subtract Id & Iq, i have not seen that but its hard to say i have read so many thousands of papers each describing their own way of doing FOC. there are a lot of variations, usually with some trade off you gain this but sacrifice that. in military/commercial aircraft you're g...

i have not worked a lot with IPM motors. a little with axial flux. but mostly SPM and separately excited. so this whole salience thing, the details of making it ACTUALLY work is mostly new to me. we were using a fixed 45deg angle just for quick test and got really good results, better than was expec...

the beauty of all this hockinsk, is that its open source. so if people want to try it out using the default code that already supports most of what you're talking about then you're starting from a good spot. a super enthusiastic DIY'r could in theory set up a multi-motor EV, multi Axioms, one gas pe...
