Re: Optibike 29er SIMBB and factory review

Wow! It's been 4 months and I have not heard any reviews on this bike from actual owners. Anybody in ES know of any owners? Would love to hear their reviews.

Re: Optibike 29er SIMBB and factory review

Good point, Punx0r.

I think what's described on Optibike's overview are just corner points of the envelope of performance.

As you pointed out, it's highly doubtful that all those parameters can be met simultaneously.

@o00scorpion00o: Your bike has the inverted motor layout. Have you had a chance to test ride the newer Haibikes? If yes, any difference in handling, etc?

Re: Car carrier that will work with an IZIP Zuma E3?

Every bike rack/carrier manufacturer that I've spoken would not commit to saying, "Yeah, our carriers can handle your ebikes" for obvious reasons. When pressed on whether they have anything on the drawing boards they all responded in the same way, "There's not really a market for that in the US." I'...

Re: second ebike purchase help- bionx pre-built or easy moti

@hustlecat: What did you decide on? I have a BionX and can tell you that I like the silent motor. The 73pd has a small hub motor so it looks like it's internally geared and might have some noise associated with that type of motor. Of course, when you're riding in traffic, no one else is going to hea...

Re: Optibike new mid drive unit

And now this video...

It sounds a little quieter than the R series Optibikes. I'd like to hear one where the riders zooms by a camcorder mounted on a tripod.

cost about $4k a decade ago. @Chalo: According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, $4K a decade ago has the same buying power as $5,084 in 2013: http://www.bls.gov/data/inflation_calculator.htm While I agree with you that custom is the way to go, some people don't have the time, patience, or debuggi...

Re: Optibike new mid drive unit

Does the motor make noise like the Optibike?.......................... Very quiet and smooth.
Anyone have a video of one in action? I'd like to hear what the noise level of this is. The R-series definitely sounded like my R/C car. "Very quiet" would be welcome.

Re: Optibike new mid drive unit

I'm guessing if the rider is careful to use the full range of gears, that ought to keep the motor running in the sweet spot. That should keep heat to a minimum. But if the rider doesn't, there's going to be a lot of heat.

Re: Optibike new mid drive unit

@remf: Thanks for posting the flyer. Amazing that Optibike can cram a 14Ah battery pack in that small form factor. The flyer also said, "Cool carbon technology-- Will not overheat" I wonder if they are saying that the internal gearing is carbon fiber. Motor, batteries, and electronics will produce h...

Re: Optibike new mid drive unit

Apparently it's 500Wh - 13Ah. I don't know... Kinda defies the laws of physics cramming in that many batteries in there, unless of course there's an Arc Reactor inside. One thing's for sure, if Optibike did it, that would concentrate the center of gravity to a tighter, lower spot than other solutio...

Re: Optibike new mid drive unit

I see on one of the photos it says, "2X torque of Bosch unit." What does that come out to be? 2 x 40Nm = 80Nm? ... though couldn't be huge capacity pack. I'm guessing maybe 5Ah... I'd like to know how they get rid of the heat of the motor to the batteries. The housing doesn't have fins like a heat s...
