Re: A bit disappointed by my BBSHD (from EM3ev)

I too got a HD with throttle issues. I had no idea it wasn't going to work like my 02 ver1. If I pedaled and used the throttle it was like an on off switch. I could use throttle in PAS0 fine but if I pedaled in PAS0 and throttle it was full on throttle, so pedal input was there even in PAS0. Paul g...

Re: A bit disappointed by my BBSHD (from EM3ev)

You can do very little through the display. You must have the programming cable to program the controller and to add the .el file and modify it if needed. Paul sent me a new controller and the .el file to try first. I did not use the new controller, not yet anyway. The controllers have Bafang .el fi...

Re: A bit disappointed by my BBSHD (from EM3ev)

I can't say enough good about EM3ev. Both Paul and Joseph respond to emails in 24hrs with an apology for the delay. At least they aren't relying on forums to do their tech support! I too got a HD with throttle issues. I had no idea it wasn't going to work like my 02 ver1. If I pedaled and used the t...

Re: Tesla Model 3

Sadly we canceled our model 3 order. We waited for 2 years to get our $38000 car. Then our number finally came up and it was going to cost us close to $60000 if you really wanted to drive it.The tesla was going to cost us $760/mo with $10K down. We got our $1000 back in 2 days! Sad that we waited fo...

Re: Spot welding fuses to individual 18650 cells?

About 18A constant and 26A peak which can last for several minutes.
I have to use too much heat to weld the .2mm Nickel and the cell is getting hotter than I would like. I think I will just use the .15mm and double it up. That is how the pack was made.

Re: Moots Zirkel 52v 20ah 8fun. Wahoo!

There's your problem.... Looks like the bottom left cell's Nickel strip is under the protective circle thst protects the negative to positive...the strip is right under it. Easy to spot. I didn't notice that and see no shorting there but the more than half of the nickle strip being blown out is wha...

Re: Moots Zirkel 52v 20ah 8fun. Wahoo!

Did the BMS short out during use or do you think it was assembled like that? Must have made a big spark and a bunch of smoke. I'm not sure what happened first. It is clear that some damage was done at the factory seeing more than half of the nickel strip is blown out. I noticed no smoke when it sta...

Re: Spot welding fuses to individual 18650 cells?

What do you think of this layout? 52v 20ah Luna brick rebuild. This is the top of the two bricks put together. The bottom will use neg fuse wire as well. My thoughts were to use only neg fuse wire so if wire slag falls between batteries it won't short out. 2 layers of 8mm x .2mm nickle on everythin...

Re: Moots Zirkel 52v 20ah 8fun. Wahoo!

Interesting observation, the cells that failed were in and next to the group that had been shorted out during the build of this pack from Luna. I noticed the damage the first day I received the pack after taking the wrap off! I decided to use the pack anyway being we were in a rush by then. My Bad. ...

Re: Fuse-wire for individual cells, DIY Tesla style

Dirt cheap glass-covered fuses (AliExpress, 50 fuses for $1). This is from youtube "AveRage Joe" episode 31 Not enough Amps. I like keeping the burned fuse material contained. Not so cheap ones but amps are there. I'm not spending over $1 each though! https://www.alliedelec.com/littelfuse-0251015-h...

I bought these 300ANL fuses with holders. Marc said that I don't need them if using a car battery but highly recommends them if using a small pack. Something else to put in my inventory of lessons learned. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MYGIR2C/ref=sxbs_sxwds-stvp_1?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_p=31714...

Re: Spot Welding Copper Strips to 18650 Battery Cells

i tried tungsten, molybdenum, 30-70 copper tungsten. Tested for welding copper, nickel, copper-nickel. pure copper electrodes still work best for me. Tungsten/molybdenum cause more sparks and blowouts and stick much more. I have not yet tried zirconium copper (the electrodes I bought are quite big ...

Re: 18650 spot welding -how to- ULTIMATE REPOSITORY

Does any of these 78X or similiar welders do 0.15mm nickel to 0.15mm nickel weld? Mine dont (220V version). 0.15mm nickel to battery is ok. So what silverish material is 18650 terminals made of? Attracts magnet so its not stainless steel. Not copper and nickel either. My 110v didn't and was told I ...

Re: soldering vs spot welding debate

I just stuck some .15mm nickle to - side of several batteries. Tinning battery takes .8 sec and leaves too much solder. I can touch with my finger as soon as I put the iron down. TInned nickle and soldered it to battery. 1.5 sec. Can touch only for a couple of seconds. Measures 165F on battery botto...

Re: DIY Arduino timed spot-welder, FET-switched, adj. pulse

I was playing with .2mm nickle. First good welds were at 50MS. THen I had to keep increasing time and was not getting good results. Was up to 180MS before got a good weld. Noticed buildup on tips so I filed them to a point and at 180MS blew through and tring to remove the tab it tore the tab leaving...

0ZRwMXL-Rvs here i applied the iron for LESS than 1 second. the joint is cool to the touch in 2 seconds. spot welding only takes milliseconds. i got a video as well, shot at 400fps: gOUbVF2ef_o spot welding definitely heats the cell a LOT LESS overall. but applies more intense heat on those 2 spots...

Re: Moots Zirkel 52v 20ah 8fun. Wahoo!

Had a fire one street over. Roads were blocked so I took the bike over to investigate. 4 miles later I barely made it home. Took the pack apart and found 16 cells were shorted and 3 others around the bad spot in the pack from the factory were low on voltage compared to other good cells. Should of re...

350 miles of mostly dirt trail. I hit 1340w frequently. The hub is not seeping anymore. I have a proper chain tensioner on it now which was never an issue, the derailleur was just temp. I use Mavic rear cogs so there is lots of choices for rear gearing. Keeping the steel 46t chainring and running a ...
