Re: KT motor controllers -- Flexible OpenSource firmware for BMSBattery S/Kunteng KT motor controllers (0.25kW up to 5kW

As per https://github.com/WebBluetoothCG/web-bluetooth/blob/gh-pages/implementation-status.md The Windows implementation is available in Chrome 70.0.3526.0 and requires Windows 10 version 1703 (Creators Update). Android: Requires Android 6.0 Marshmallow or later. WebBLE is an app for iOS that suppor...

Re: KT motor controllers -- Flexible OpenSource firmware for BMSBattery S/Kunteng KT motor controllers (0.25kW up to 5kW

BTW I made a simple web app yesterday to interface to stock Kunteng controllers from any mobile/tablet/pc via a HM-10 Bluetooth LE module. In theory it should work with almost any controller/firmware with a few changes. nice work, but can you explain some details. You have to run a local web server...

Re: KT motor controllers -- Flexible OpenSource firmware for BMSBattery S/Kunteng KT motor controllers (0.25kW up to 5kW

I was trying to use this firmware but I get an error when using stm8flash as per this link: https://opensourceebikefirmware.bitbucket.io/INSTALL_FIRMWARE--Tools_build_and_flash_firmware--How_to_erase_and_unlock_protected_read_memory.html Determine OPT area Due to its file extension (or lack thereof)...

Re: Bluetooth adapter for kelly controllers

In the thread mentioned by gba they used a HC-05/HC-06 module. HM-10 is Bluetooth LE, completely different than Bluetooth classic.

Re: Help Needed: Android (or windows) Dashboard for Realtime display of SFOC5 controller's serial output, etc

I received the HM-10 Bluetooth LE modules a while ago and I had some time to play with them today. I made a web app which works with Kunteng controllers and displays the data received and allows you to change all the settings. No circuitry is required apart from connecting the HM-10 module to the ri...

Re: S-LCD to S12S controller communication protocol hacked

Blik86, thanks for the chart. I'm not able to view the spreadsheet properly on LibreOffice. Can you please explain what C4S and C4% are? Also what is L1? Edit, found what C4S and C4% are referring to in the manual: When C4 = 2 is confirmed, "specified speed limit value of handlebar" flashes, press (...

Re: Help Needed: Android (or windows) Dashboard for Realtime display of SFOC5 controller's serial output, etc

The WiFi chips were just mentioned as as another option, I didn't go into this further as among other things it would be more complicated and require custom firmware and more hardware. Ok, well, the SFOC5 does have 20mA of "spare" capacity on the 5v line. But this also has to power the throttle for ...

Re: Help Needed: Android (or windows) Dashboard for Realtime display of SFOC5 controller's serial output, etc

There are of course countless different ways this could be implemented. Personally I would build a web application. The benefits are: Cross platform No requirement for heavy toolchains or development environment setup Easy to use final application, no software installation necessary Instant feedback...

Re: Bluetooth DC energy monitor

That is nice. I don't suppose I could enlist you to write opensource software for a couple of things to display data for Incememed's SFOC project? (a realtime dashboard for android or a windows laptop, and a program (maybe integrated into the dashboard?) for the windows laptop to change settings, d...

Re: Bluetooth DC energy monitor

Although the firmware development has been slow (as expected) I have implemented support for the display, accelerometer, shunt temp thermistor, INA226 current/voltage monitor and Bluetooth. I also assembled a second base and display module. The first device has a 0.5mΩ shunt and the second has a 5mΩ...

Re: Bluetooth DC energy monitor

I assembled one of the display boards today. I've read that the LGA-16 package of the LIS3DH accelerometer is very hard to reflow without getting shorted pads but I gave it a couple of pokes once the solder melted and everything looks ok to me. https://i.imgur.com/CjeqFwU.jpg It wasn't really necess...

Re: Bluetooth DC energy monitor

I only meant a higher charge voltage like 4.2V/cell. I wouldn't want a battery to float at 4.2V/cell forever so it would need to have a cut-off. And as you said earlier that won't work well with a smart BMS. Of course it's possible to just float at a lower voltage but the charging time will be incre...

Re: Bluetooth DC energy monitor

dumb bms work that way yes, but then you are already beyond the 4.2V limit, usually 4.25V or higher. a smart bms start balancing at preset voltages like 4V and they need time to do their job. they only balance when they see incoming power. so a power supply (charger is the wrong word technically) t...

Re: Bluetooth DC energy monitor

yeah, you dont want those. that does not give the abillity for the bms to do its balancing. especially smart bms that need to have a contstant current flow otherwise they stop balancing when the charger shuts off. I haven't looked closely at how most BMSs work but I would have assumed that they wou...

That behaviout is standard for lipo chargers. If it does not do that something is wrong with it.
Some of them cut off when the current is below a threshold (e.g. 1/10 - 1/20 of the charging current) and may even start again when the voltage goes below a certain threshold.

Re: Bluetooth DC energy monitor

Learning how to use Apache Mynewt and all the required toolchains again has a pretty big learning curve. Re: Bluetooth DC energy monitor

the problem with the chinese meters is that the polling times when they take the measurement is shit, often only 2~3 times per second, when you have very "pulsy" loads they miss a lot if current and then the coloumb measurements are way off after a while. in a bike those currents are not that much ...

Re: Bluetooth DC energy monitor

i missed that piece. thanks. i am looking for a power sensor that can accuratly measure high currents in stationary applications without a fancy bms. having a phone is fine in most cases but a fixed setup that has a simple LCD that is separate from the bms is often warranted, most bms dont have the...

There are commercial products you can buy to remove the speed limit. I think they may work by skipping every second pulse from the speed sensor.

Here's the progress I've made. I ordered the boards several days ago except for the adapter board which I finished today. I chose to order them from both OSH Park (probably higher quality but slower) and JLCPCB (faster shipping, cheap stencil). My routing is pretty terrible but it's my first revisio...

Re: 65A on 8AWG 1.5m length (hot?)

I haven't actually looked at your calculations but I would guess that it is because the nickel is relatively short (less total power dissipation) and has good heat sinking in the form of the battery cells.
