Re: Hover board motors for mountain board

I did end up finishing the project earlier in the year. The hoverboard wheels actually worked great!

Re: Test speed controller while awaiting throttle

I thought most of the speed controllers ran on a 1-4V range. So if you apply MORE than 4 volts (shorting the wires as you suggested) it would still run at full throttle? Or are they set to somehow ignore anything over 4? And I am pretty sure that controller was dead before I started hammering, thus ...

Re: Test speed controller while awaiting throttle

Definitely screwed to a heat spreader bar... which was in turn epoxied in. Only screws were the ones on the side plates. And no I was not gentle at all. I was basically hammering out the pcb with a mallet. This controller and the wheel that came with it both have a significant amount of rust and wat...

Re: Test speed controller while awaiting throttle

Thanks for the input. I was able to supply 3V, and no go. I tried to open up the controller to check that the hall sensor wires and phase wires are all connected, but removing the PCB sheared off some of the MOSFETS that appeared to be epoxied to the side wall. So either way, this controller is toas...

Test speed controller while awaiting throttle

I have a 48 volt speed controller I got secondhand, and it came with a throttle that was broken. The hall sensor in the throttle is destroyed and will need to be replaced. While I am awaiting a replacement throttle, I wanted to test the speed controller. When i supply power, I am getting 4.5 volts o...

Re: Euroscooter to drift trike.

Faceslap... I forgot to mention the little issue that I tried putting on the side walls from a different hub that has a drum brake built in. The screws lined up perfectly, so I thought I was in good shape. Turns out the inner diameter of the bearings is 2mm larger than the original... allowin...

Re: Euroscooter to drift trike.

No. Extremely difficult to turn even with a wrench. The wheel had the wires insulation destroyed where they exit the hub so I pulled them into the hub and wrapped them with electrical tape. Reassembled and then it won't turn. All of the phase wires are disconnected and not touching each other. I hav...

Re: Euroscooter to drift trike.

(Edit to reflect that I'm not using original hub) the hub that came with the new euro scooter was rusted together and may never run again. I picked up another ebike hub used locally. It does not turn easily by hand. I hooked it up to a speed controller and it will turn, but not smoothly at all. I to...

Should I reconnect the governor wires first? When the cop tries it out it will hit about 25MPH!

Euroscooter to drift trike.

I came by a mobility scooter on the cheap ($20)... http://euroshop.mybigcommerce.com/euro-scooter/ The wires cut, so I just had to reconnect the phase and hall wires and get a new key... I cut down the fork and seat, and welded on some foot pegs to make a drift trike. Obviously, the governor wire ha...

Leaf hub 36V/48V

I am looking at a knockoff of one of these: https://www.leafmotor.com/hub-motors/18r-electric-hub-motor.html That a local seller has on offerup. He says it is 36V/48V, but on Leaf website they have two different model numbers for 36v and 48v. The speed controller I have to use is 48V, as is the thro...

Re: Convert stand-up kick scooter to e-scooter (newbie)

I can't read Chinese, but it looks like the controller you linked to will supply a max of 16A. If that motor can really take 35A, you are going to need something beefier (and most likely lipos, no li-ion).

Re: Convert stand-up kick scooter to e-scooter (newbie)

Any 48V e-bike controller should work with a 12S lipo, you just might hit the LVC of the controller earlier than you would with a 13S li-ion. There are sensorless controllers, and there are plusses and minuses to both. As I understand it, main advantage to sensors is low speed stability: https://ele...

Hover board motors for mountain board

All of the builds I have seen for e-skateboards and mountain boards use brush-less motors with a belt drive to the wheel. I have two hover board wheels sitting around. I think they would fit onto the truck pretty easily. Is there some reason no one uses them? I think two of them would easily pull 10...

Re: Toying with a cheap hoverboard BMS

I hooked the battery in question up to a 24V brushed motor. Under load, each of the cells measures at 4.04V. The resistors closest to the balancing lead wires get HOT, but no power. So either the BMS is now toast, or I just need to disconnect and reconnect. I'll see what happens when I unsolder the ...

Duly Hover Train engine

I needed a quick way to come up with a train for my church's trunk or Treat event last night, so I welded together a few hover karts and the Crawler was born.

Re: Toying with a cheap hoverboard BMS

Yes, I have now taking a part 5 different hoverboard batteries, and each one has a little bit of a different BMS. Several of mine do have the charge port, but it seems like they are all wired directly to the other port. I had a hover board stop on me while pulling quite a bit of load yesterday. I to...

Re: Convert stand-up kick scooter to e-scooter (newbie)

Alternatively, if you can get a Hover board motor on there, you're looking at a motor with good torque, 36 volt motor with no belt or chain drive.

Re: Toying with a cheap hoverboard BMS

I've bought some of these packs, too, same as photoed above. One of the problems in these is that there is a single 8mmx0.15mm (or less?) strip of nickel carrying the series current in several links along the 10s strings. The way they are constructed, those two nickel strips fold on each other so t...

Re: Toying with a cheap hoverboard BMS

In the link that you referenced above, he said that the BMS was shutting off on his daughter's hoverboard. In my experience, these BMS don't shut off at all. It may be that I am dealing with a subset of bad BMS, and that's why the defective batteries got into my hands. But in each of the three I hav...

Re: Toying with a cheap hoverboard BMS

I have heard from people (here i believe) that Alarmhookup ebay auction delivers packs with the BMS on the side.

Now the ones I share here are NOT from an eBay auction but from packs I have pulled from hover boards purchased locally in SoCal (offerup et al)
