Re: Alan From ERT bad business!!

Just wondering but why aren't people just buying the controller straight from ASI and getting the included 1 hour programing walkthrough with a controls engineer from ASI? I imagine its just cost. I didn't consider the extra support and bluetooth app of the evaluation kit to be worth $150. I bought...

Re: ASI bac2000 and bacdoor 1.5.4

I've tried a very old version of bacdoor from when Grin first introduced their phase runner and it worked fine with the new bac4000. I asked asi if the new software was ok on old controllers and that too they said was ok, but some objects in the dictionary will be different. No settings went horribl...

Re: VESC - Motor will not start until a small kick is applied from a full stop despite using hall sensors

If you go to sampled data can you capture the hall sensor values stepping through their six states as the motor turns?

Re: Same debate again, motor windings!

5. Any motor is capable of only so much wattage. Current is what heats up a motor, not voltage. So to maximize motor wattage, run it at higher voltage and less phase current so it heats up less. I feel like this interpretation of voltage and current is where a lot of misunderstanding comes from. Mo...

Bummer DRV dead before you even put any power through the mosfets? Hopefully this new drv is more robust than the 8301/8302.

Cold joint on DRV current sense would cause it. This new DRV is leadless right?

I am also considering offering a GPS/LTE extension for the BT module and the controller to enable remote features like alarm/tracking and cloud data logging.
Have you seen the most recent version of vesc tool that logs and displays gps/maps along with the usual measurements?

Re: Large drone motor for go kart

The whopping pole count of 42 means you need a 50000 erpm capable controller just to spin the shaft at 2500 rpm. If you go through some old posts here you will find some tests on large Hobby King outrunners demonstrating extreme core losses at high speed. No idea if this is the case with T-motor but...

Re: Show me your front light(s)

How do you like the light pattern? Does it do a good job for you in fully dark situations at say 28 mph? Would a second one (800 lumens total) help? In complete darkness I'm not confident I could avoid all potholes etc at 28mph. More comfortable at 20 mph. Similar situation for off road. I'm sure a...

Just upgraded my front light recently to the following from Grin: Roxim X4 Ebike Light https://www.ebikes.ca/shop/electric-bicycle-parts/lights/roxim-x4-ebike-light.html I've been using that Roxim one for about two years now. Not the brightest light out there but a very sensible output for urban ri...

I haven't used the maytech one but if it is anything like the Flipsky one it means the lid on the case has an O-ring. The pcb itself won't have any conformal coating and water can still track inside the case through the connectors and wires.

Re: Parallelling 2 Li-ion batteries with different internal resistance

What about ditching the extender pack bms and parallelling all the balance connections between the old pack and new. Effectively making one big pack controlled by the Bosch bms, which is presumably of higher quality than the one on the extender pack. It would require modifying the Bosch battery (whi...

Re: Analog Throttle/Brake -- ADC2 does NOT cut power to the throttle? What is wrong?

Unfortunately on the vesc the brake/reverse mode doesn't function as a cutoff. Instead the commanded motor output is the brake value subtracted from the throttle value. So if you do full throttle and half brake, you will get half throttle. Maybe when you hold both the throttle and brake, the throttl...

I use ADC1 for throttle and ADC2 for brake and splice into the gnd and vcc for the bluetooth.

In vesc tool are your adc voltages noisy and jump around a lot?

Measure the resistance between each phase and supply positive and negative. If any are short circuit the mosfets on that phase are blown.

Did some stuff on the bike so time for an update. Had a chain drop recently. My fault as I was in a rush to adjust chain tension with the chain roller. Didn't loctite the new bolt and it came off a couple of weeks later. Unfortunately the chain jammed after falling off and the end of the shaft got b...

Re: Need a bombproof rear-hub that can handle 2500 watts

I second the DT Swiss freehub body design. It has an axial ratchet system, that provides more surface area and engagement than most others on the market. They are very easy to disassemble and rebuild, since it's only 2 springs plus two of the ratchet rings, minus the splined cassette body. Only dra...

I tried to connect, it doesn’t connect, I tried all the options, Asi says that the one who set up the controller somehow blocked it for writing (ERT) to end users.
If true that really sucks :( . Surely there is a way to restore the controller to default?

Are you only saving the settings to ram in bacdoor? You need to save to flash as well if you want the settings to persist on reboot.

Re: Opinions please: VESC - Vedder Electronic Speed Controllers

Price aside, I feel the vesc controllers don't make sense for DD hubs due to the lower voltage limit. Plus there are so many other controllers to choose from that work great with hubs. If you need sensorless or a very high erpm for your motor and the voltage limit is not a problem then it make more ...

Then $15 dc converter (72v to 12v) went 72v on the 12v side and blew the 12v coil on the gigavac contactor. Lucky no other damage. Lesson learnt on fusing 12v side and sizing dc converter to FULL pack voltage 84v approx. I've also found that cheap chinese dc-dc converters have a nasty habit of pass...

SOLD! For sale is a 10T Mac rear hub motor as the title says. I purchased it in 2014 but only did around 5000km on it as I went mid drive and also played around with other builds. Its the old style motor core so it has 0.5mm laminations and phase wires are not as thick as they are today. It takes a...
