Is ur field weakening for the Vesc safe to use? How much faster do you go and at what cost?
I've been using it almost daily since July 2020 when I posted it so it seems ok for my setup at least.

Benjamin recently put out a dev firmware with field weakening so probably best to give that a go.

Re: Vesc hgltech 75v 200amps

You should connect the throttle 5v to the vesc 3.3V supply. This way you will keep the signal value below the maximum of 3.3V.

Re: Sin/Cos to quadrature encoding conversion? Has anyone tried?

I found an example of a microcontroller based converter here. There is even an example firmware.

An easier solution might be to simply buy an encoder and attach it to the shaft end.

Re: Arduino Nano Cycle Analyst (and other) companion bits and bobs

Looks like this is shaping up nicely now that you have a clear idea of how you want it to behave with different inputs and outputs. This sounds like a good plan. Without any outputs, though, how will I know when the input side is working, since the Nano has no display or anything (well, there is one...

Re: Adding hall sensors - Best positions?

As long as they are 120 electrical degrees apart it will work. Between the stator poles (red dots) is probably easiest. Another way is to 3d print a ring that goes around the shaft and embed small magnets in the ring corresponding to the rotor magnet positions. Then you place your hall sensors exter...

I cant get the ISO for W10 because I am in Linux, and go to Windows page and it says I need to get it through a Windows pc. I even tried Virtual Box but get hung up when I go through it all, works but the end part doesnt where you need to find a disk to mount to. Trying to find if I have the W10 in...

Did progress ever get made on this project? I've been playing around with instaspin recently for fun (strange idea of fun I know). I've been working towards getting a controller going with the 28004x.

Nice parts, I really like the brake/sprocket adapter.

Is regen or braking possible on the castle controller?

Re: phaserunner error code 1-8

Surely the controller is bad since you get normal values with the good PR on the same motor.

You can try measure the voltage drop across the body diodes of the mosfets with the dmm diode tester and see if there is anything funny there.

Sorry I meant measure the voltage with your multimeter and see if it agrees with what the controller reports.

Re: phaserunner error code 1-8

Of course the controller is not going to drive the mosfets if one phase is at a very low voltage. Have you actually measured the open circuit phase voltages with the controller powered on?

I see you have measured the phase to supply negative resistance with a dmm and not found any shorts.

Re: 'unlock' ASI BAC 4000? (Surron controller version)

The ASI software is actually called "Bacdoor". It's available for PC and android but the android version requires a valid ASI account and password (which you will probably not get). Also keep in mind that it is possible for a vendor to password lock a controller, in which case you will not...

I take it QEMU is also inherently faster than something like virtualbox? Re: Daisy chain active balancer

I believe the problem with these switched inductor and capacitor balancers is that the balancing current is proportional to the voltage difference. So my understanding is that the balance current tapers off and it gets quite slow as the cell voltages get closer.

Re: Linux geeks thread

What virtual machine software can do a gpu passthrough? i'm intrigued! Check out the vfio kernel module. You use the vfio driver on the display you want to pass through. Then you can just add the pcie device in qemu the usual way. The performance is pretty darn good. To me the performance in games ...

I've run Linux on my laptops and desktops for a few years now. Also use a windows vm with gpu passthrough for gaming and other windows only s...

The waveform from the hall sensor with the motor spinning should be 50% duty cycle as the rotor magnets toggle it on and off.

Re: VESC Field Weakening

You would need to compile the vesc controller firmware and vesc tool program to use that branch. I'm not sure if that branch should be used for field weakening as only the MTPA code has been merged and not the FW part. I've implemented field weakening on my ebike a different way and have been riding...
