And it was a standard laptop charger so since they make millions, it was CHEAP.

Re: Bionx 48V SL 350 XL battery charging issue

46 volts and 1 bar -- that sounds about right. At that voltage it should charge happily if charger and battery are healthy. Getting in -- after you take out all the bolts (and unlock it and raise the locking handle IIRC) You need to pry all around VERY gently. If it is like the older ones I have ope...

Re: Bionx 48V SL 350 XL battery charging issue

Those voltages are pretty low and might suggest that you have one cell shorted (and it would have drained its little buddies wired in parallel). That would worry the BMS which might refuse to attempt to charge but still allow regen to feed the battery. Is there any change in current or wattage on th...

Re: Need Help Finding E-Bike With Features I want

I had hoped that Trek still made their Bionx-based electrics. It appears that they have changed over to Bosch. This one is pretty expensive but has many of the features you wanted and is a "turn key" system: https://www.trekbikes.com/us/en_US/bikes/hybrid-bikes/electric-hybrid-bikes/xm700/xm700-lows...

Re: Would you put solar panel on your electric vehicle

The semi flexible solar panels we're all using for bikes are really lightweight, but they have a tendency to crack if not properly secured or secured with too much tension. They are made to flex up to 30% during installation, such as onto an RV, car hood, or other slightly curved surface, but they ...

A Cyclist - is a disaster for the economy: 1. He does not buy the car and does not take a car loan. 2. Does not buy vehicle insurance. 3. Does not buy fuel. 4. Does not use the services of repair shops and car washes. 5. Does not use paid parking. 6. Does not become obese. 7. Yes, and well, dammit !...

Re: Recumbent trikes

I have an older Terratrike Cruiser with a Bionx system that I found used for a good price. I have ridden it for ~2000 miles and simply LOVE it. It is a tadpole with two wheels up and one back. It is fast and stable and a joy to ride. I REALLY like the Bionx torque-sensitive assist and find that I pr...

Re: Using a torque sensor in an eccentric bottom bracket?

The Bionx motor has a similar orientation requirement. That is because the Bionx torque-sensor strain gauge measures the BEND in the axle from the chain forces on the sprocket. The Bionx system is tolerant of some misalignment -- say plus or minus 30 degrees or so. It isn't unreasonable to expect th...

Lastly, I just joined this forum because there is a lot of technical expertise and experience I can benefit from. It is not my intention to try to sell my cruisers through this forum. In fact quite the opposite. If I can add value to it by sharing my expertise, I'm happy to do so. I say this becaus...

What an exquisite one-off.

Maybe everybody but me knows how this is done, but could you give us a couple of paragraphs about the design / fab processes?

Are these processes accessible to us mortals, albeit for simpler items ?? Or do you own a composite fab house ???

Re: Day 6, a Bike for bad backs and my review

The fat tad might have been the favorite. Pretty much all the lower slung, more bent ones were the nicest. That one is pretty cool looking. Although the fat tires are HEAVY, they are worth their weight in gold in deep sand. They float over the top of sand that would defeat pretty much any more trad...

Re: Came within inches of being killed on my eBike today

In the early eighties, for three years I commuted 14 miles a day on city streets in Durham, NC which was, at the time, famous for killing bicyclists. After two days on the thoroughfares, I realized that I would not survive a month on those streets. I bought a city map and mapped out a route (a long...

Re: Day 6, a Bike for bad backs and my review

Going to Pennsylvania to ride some nice bent e trikes next week. So far, no,, I have never rode a fully bent trike. I have rode a fully bent bike once, but not far enough to test it on my back. In big city traffic, I doubt I'll like my head that low. But out on the open road out west,, sure. Chance...

Re: Day 6, a Bike for bad backs and my review

I just have to eliminate the shocks to my back somehow, it uses up my back strength to take the shocks. As my back muscles tire, I get a full inch shorter, and then my nerves to my legs start to grind. 6 hours in a car seat has about the same effect, if the road is too rough. Have you tried a true ...

Re: Bronx Battery repair

The older 36 volt LiMn batteries did not have any proper BMS (no balance wires). Open the battery case, take out the aging battery brick and just build a new LiMn battery brick in the same geometry as the old one and and solder it to the old leads. With the advances in LiMn batteries, you can increa...

Re: Bionx system

I did the same thing with my Trek navigator 500+, this is a bike that runs on 48 Volt. My battery was bad because of not using it and not charging it, the Bion-x is constant comunicate from battery to controller. This sucks your battery quite fast down to nothing. A new pack is build with 16s1 LIFE...

Is that simply because the motor is a larger radius than a hub and the choice of lacing pattern is more constrained ??

Re: Anyone successfully spoke up a fatbike wheel?

I have no real experience in building wheels at all and the only wheel I have ever built was to put a Bionx PL350 motor into the front wheel of a Mongoose Dolomite with 4” tires. There was enough room for a 1-cross lacing but I didn’t have the right length spokes for that. I looked at radial lacing ...

Re: Recommended Trike for Ebike Conversion

My Terratrike Cruiser with Bionx is a joy to ride and I now have about 3000 miles on it. The current equivalent model is the Tour II. The base model of the Tour II would be a fine choice. All of my e-bikes are Bionx powered so I don't have much basis for comparison, although I did put 600 miles on a...
