Re: KT motor controllers -- Flexible OpenSource firmware for BMSBattery S/Kunteng KT motor controllers (0.25kW up to 5kW

I was testing a different KT controller today, a 6 fet version without phase sensor and it was working fine until it just suddenly stopped working because it is reading the battery voltage as 0 which means that the throttle won't respond anymore. I am using it with the osec app and when I turn the m...

Re: KT motor controllers -- Flexible OpenSource firmware for BMSBattery S/Kunteng KT motor controllers (0.25kW up to 5kW

Awesome, thanks. With the angle setting that gives no resistance the bike runs really well and regen is brilliant, just will not work from standstill. Is pure sine the most efficient option? I would also like to find out how to enable field weakening too so I can really kick the arse out it and go f...

Re: KT motor controllers -- Flexible OpenSource firmware for BMSBattery S/Kunteng KT motor controllers (0.25kW up to 5kW

Yeah everything was on. I have to turn the wheel a little to get the motor motor to start but once started it runs fine with no resistance when coasting. I think it may just be the hall angles being a bit off as I did fit the sensors myself. I am not sure how to get the exact angles for the sensors ...

Re: Adding hall sensors - Best positions?

The problem is, you're treating the position of the halls as a function of the stator when it's not. It's a function of the rotor. You need to work out how many pole pairs your rotor has, otherwise you're just blindly guessing. Use a magnet and count, or stick a few amps on two of the phases and co...

Re: KT motor controllers -- Flexible OpenSource firmware for BMSBattery S/Kunteng KT motor controllers (0.25kW up to 5kW

I think we are getting close. My motor specific angle for the smoothest and most efficient operation is 215. When I changed it to 200, the motor will not start but there is no resistance at all when turning the pedals. Any ideas?

Re: KT motor controllers -- Flexible OpenSource firmware for BMSBattery S/Kunteng KT motor controllers (0.25kW up to 5kW

I did another motor drag test and noted ui8_position_correction_value and it stayed at 127 constantly. I also connected an old analog ammeter up to the controller just in case my digital wattmeter was getting confused. The ammeter showed 1 amp power consumption while the motor was dragging. Surely i...

Re: KT motor controllers -- Flexible OpenSource firmware for BMSBattery S/Kunteng KT motor controllers (0.25kW up to 5kW

Will do. I will make a graph of it too to save you time. I think my hall angles 1 to 6 being slightly off might have something to do with it also. I made a separate topic about that because I was using osec app to look at the hall angles and you don't use the osec app.

Re: KT motor controllers -- Flexible OpenSource firmware for BMSBattery S/Kunteng KT motor controllers (0.25kW up to 5kW

It is definitely puzzling. Do you think that maybe I should try mechanical calibration on the battery current shunt by fililing away small amounts of material or adding a tiny bit of solder? Does your 6 fet controller have the phase current sensor? I have a 6 fet which doesn't and could test tonight...

Re: KT motor controllers -- Flexible OpenSource firmware for BMSBattery S/Kunteng KT motor controllers (0.25kW up to 5kW

Nope, it's definitely consuming. I have found my watt meter which can register negative flow and it does regenerate a bit when I spin it up as we saw in another graph and then it starts consuming power and creating a noticeable drag. As I said before, changing the cal value to negative makes the whe...

Using blue osec app to set best hall angles

Hi everyone, I was wondering how is the app used to find the best hall sensor angles? I had the app running and was turning the wheel slowly by hand but the angle pie thing doesn't look right as hall angle 2 is missing. The motor runs pretty smoothly and quietly but I would like to get the best effi...

Re: KT motor controllers -- Flexible OpenSource firmware for BMSBattery S/Kunteng KT motor controllers (0.25kW up to 5kW

OK, here is another log file of the motor giving quite strong drag and the controller consuming about 650ma at 46.4v while doing this. This log was made using this printf line printf("%u,%lu, %u, %u, %u, %u\r\n", ui16_control_state, uint32_current_target, ui16_virtual_erps_speed, ui16_Batt...

Re: KT motor controllers -- Flexible OpenSource firmware for BMSBattery S/Kunteng KT motor controllers (0.25kW up to 5kW

Well I tried to program the controller again tonight to get more debug logs to you but it won't program anymore as it has probably been programmed about 300 times and the chip can't be written to now. I have another 6 fet kt controller without phase current sensing which still programs without issue...

Re: KT motor controllers -- Flexible OpenSource firmware for BMSBattery S/Kunteng KT motor controllers (0.25kW up to 5kW

I had a ride on the bike and the resistance from the motor when trying to coast is definitely noticeable. The bike is very easy to pedal if I switch the controller off. On a more positive note, regen works really well and is good fun. I tried again to do a diagnostic with the exact parameters you we...

Re: KT motor controllers -- Flexible OpenSource firmware for BMSBattery S/Kunteng KT motor controllers (0.25kW up to 5kW

Hugely appreciated, thank you :D . I'm going to play around with the settings a bit more as you suggest to sort the regen throttle range and the motor drag. It would be nice to get the wheel going faster though because as I said previously, I accidentally changed this line ui16_current_cal_b >>= 4; ...

Re: KT motor controllers -- Flexible OpenSource firmware for BMSBattery S/Kunteng KT motor controllers (0.25kW up to 5kW

I managed to get hterm working, the blueterm app didn't show up any options for connecting. I have attached three log files, rev up.log is me revving the motor up under no load, cycle regen.log is just slowly moving the regen throttle from closed to open without the wheel spinning and motor drag.log...

Re: Adding hall sensors - Best positions?

Thanks for the examples. I can't find any examples of hall placement on inrunner motors. Most of them seem to have encoders rather than hall sensors. It seems common on the outrunners that they are arranged with two sensors on the poles and one in the slot and I have shown this layout on my inrunner...

feel free to provide us meaningful log data and a short but precise description of your problem. I will get proper log data to you ...

Adding hall sensors - Best positions?

Hi everyone, today I got a BLDC motor out of a broken 36v cordless chainsaw and was wanting to add hall sensors to it so that I can test controllers properly. I was wondering what the best position for the sensors would be? I could epoxy them between the spaces between the windings (shown in red) Or...

You know what gets on my nerves? People who release buggy software then make smartarse remarks when people try to get help with said bugs. Going to buy a vesc instead as it seems to be fit for purpose and made by someone a bit more mature.

Re: KT motor controllers -- Flexible OpenSource firmware for BMSBattery S/Kunteng KT motor controllers (0.25kW up to 5kW

Yes, the clutch in the motor has been welded. No, everything isn't explained in the wiki. You mention schematics, where can I find them? Temperature sensors are mentioned. Where do I connect the sensor? x4 throttle doesn't even have a setting for it's upper and lower limit like the normal throttle d...

Re: KT motor controllers -- Flexible OpenSource firmware for BMSBattery S/Kunteng KT motor controllers (0.25kW up to 5kW

I tried changing ui16_current_cal_b -= 1; using values between -10 and 10. Negative values made the wheel rotate itself and positive values did nothing to remove the resistance. I did accidentally change ui16_current_cal_b >>= 4; to >>=8 and as soon as the controller was switched on, the wheel spun ...

Re: KT motor controllers -- Flexible OpenSource firmware for BMSBattery S/Kunteng KT motor controllers (0.25kW up to 5kW

Does anyone have a schematic for the KT controllers? I was especially interested in a diagram of the 12 fet one. I was also considering removing the dissipation resistor and replacing that with lm2596hv step down module to reduce power consumption.
