Re: Fast Electric Cargo Bike for my Bay Area Commute

Mid drives would suit your needs quite well. I highly doubt you'd be able to install a Bosch motor on your Surly, as those motors are for manufacturers. Companies like Specialized, for example would use their proprietary blend of parts - not good if something were to break a$ then you are a b!t(h to...

Re: Crash Thread - lucky

Well when I fell over the handlebars and to the side, I had momentum and the bikes front wheel stayed pretty much on one side of the sidewalk, the handlebars slammed into to sidewalk, wrecking the smooth movement of the lever. I think my shoulder probably hit the the grass on the other side of the s...

Re: 500w Vs 1000 watt DD hub motor

Leafs 1500W is a steel stamped stator
Edge 1500W is an Aluminum stator - good for shedding heat

Add to that some Statorade from Grintech and its a great motor, lighter then the mxus/qs 3kw.

I rode past the spot today, and the rut I made goes down 4" or 5" along the side of the sidewalk.

Re: Why not comfort bikes?

The Electra Townie is a great cruiser bike for conversion to electric.
Look for the 21D which is the 3x7, much better then the 7D 1x7.

Re: Crash Thread - lucky

The only damage is a broken lever action. The bike I bought used but was basically brand spanking new.

Re: Why not comfort bikes?

I have built a few cruiser style bicycles and love them! The regular style mtb's have a too upright riding position for my liking, but I do not ride technical at all as I just cruise around getting from A to B. I do like single track trails through the tree's every now and then. You can convert mtb'...

Re: Crash Thread - lucky

Had my first crash of 2019 - I was on the sidewalk and a guy on a walker was up ahead so I go onto the road, pass him then go up the rounded curb then onto the sidewalk. The sidewalks edge had some soft mud so the front wheel railed along the edge as I fell onto my shoulder and hands softening the f...

Just get rid of it and go diy, thats if you have the money.
If you dont have the money, then perhaps you will be waiting a long time to get anything unlocked. Its all about priorities.

Sochi is a ghost town. I hope the buildings were atleast built better then the buildings being built in China which crumble in no time.

Re: new cyclone 3000 w mid-drive kit?

I already have a threaded arm for the freewheel, but I dont want to wreck that one too  I will first try some epoxy weld with the threads on the pedal shimmed for a tight fit. Helicoil I doubt would work but might be worth a try, if the price is right. Then I might have to get someone with a t...

Not in Canada as TURH-OH is light on violent crime, including murder. Make it lethal and you're the one tossed in the klink for a long stretch. But a sub Taser-like booby trap, even like you get from the bigger cattle fences, now that I'd sign up for. Which of course means already available on some ...

I wouldnt mind dropping some money on magnets, wire and glue to rewind the mxus 3kw. It was a great motor! A quick search: these are not the right size at all but its a good to get ahold of the price - https://www.apexmagnets.com/magnets/50mm-x-10-mm-x-5mm-block-neodymium-magnets and another https:/...

Re: new cyclone 3000 w mid-drive kit?

Tyvm minimum I used two nuts as spacers, I believe they were 5/16 nuts and it looks to be aligned with outter gear (2nd picture), but its not squared up (3rd picture) because the angled bracket is mangled. A cargo strap and a piece of wood will get it aligned. The 6mm x 80mm Hexhead bolts were able ...

Re: Dozens of Bicycles Recovered!

One walk down the streets of Banff or Canmore or even Cochrane.... you will see mid-tier bicycles and high-tier expensive bicycles locked up with a cable  Very rarely would I see a yellow Kryptonite U-lock being used, but maybe an orange or black Kryptonite on the odd occasion. No there were no...
