Re: Tips or Tricks

Rear hub motor on the front with 26x2 on Alex DM24, with no freewheel. Rear is stock 26x4 to be switched for the red vee tire which is 26x3 as seen in pics. Of note the stock 26x4 is quite loud with its designed tread. Hub needs to be switched around to line up disc brake. I rushed putting it on, mo...

Re: new eZip motor

Those are the going rates for the cheapest hub motors, the lucky thing with those type is you get a complete kit, even though the controller is weak and wimpy 48V 20A but you can always get 48V 40A controller for cheap. I was lucky in finding a few great deals on ebay with their ebay site, $200cdn w...

Re: new eZip motor

What, the metal for the battery screw terminals to configure the way you want? I'd have no idea, but you surely could make your own. Pure copper plate - A metal store, like https://www.metalsupermarkets.com/ may have it. Not copper roofing, u'd want better/purer. I found this randomly. But they're f...

Re: new eZip motor

You were looking for a cheap hub motor kit? Damn ebike hub motors are getting cheap $210usd with $23 shipping, I used 90210 for Cali to get that s/h price. 48V 20A controller with 60V capacitors inside, hub motors probably good for 48V 30A. I'd go with a 52V 40A and throw in a temperature display to...

Re: EM3ev vs Luna Batteries and Kits

I have always found the shipping prices from Grin to Alberta were always very reasonable. I even checked out how much it was to ship a bare hub motor and I was surprised at how much it was, very reasonable prices IMHO. Now if you want to purchase connectors and get it shipped now thats a different s...

Re: Amount of cells? many or few

Be careful not to set it and forget it, the charger might keep charging your battery well beyond 4.20V before you check in on it and realize whats happened. A good quality charger is nice to have in that regard, the iChargers are good, but you pay for what you get unlike a cheap $20 Hobbyking RC cha...

Re: Maximum charging amps for these ( RC Lipo ) cells

Compression dont always help unless the pouch is fully protected or encased like a prismatic. Hobbyking for a while sold a black plastic encased lipo battery. When you drop the pouch on its corner, thats never good. I saw a person trying to sell one like that, a corner of a lipo battery dented in be...

Will you be able to pass that ? Well maybe not, not unless I got proper pedal gearing or I go 72V with my 5T Leaf 1500W but it would be a nod and I gotta turn and go the other way.  In the rain its easy to find a plastic garbage bag to cover things up with. Re: Amount of cells? many or few

Sometimes its actually better to charge at 0.1A and have it take days on end to fully charge (if not weeks) but then practicality of life kicks in. So if you do not need to use the battery then it doesnt matter. If your vehicle or golf cart's battery has been drained, then its best to slow charge to...

That advice is good, to choose a motor winding that suits your top speed. But do keep in mind we don't ride on flat ground 0% grade all the time so knowing the terrain you ride is important. Using the Trip Simulator helps plugging in the google maps route. And remember its not always wise to speed u...

I've come across this once where the washer on the hub motor flange was to big and would hit the cover plate. It was easy to find a smaller washer with the appropriate OD and the appropriate ID. You won't find those washers at no Home Depot or Lowes, but you will at a real fastener store. washer may...

Re: Mid Drives Working With Coaster Brakes

It is most likely a built in bicycle lock thats seen in the picture. Get a new hub wheel with a normal hub if the coaster brake hub doesn't work. The rear dropout width is smaller then normal, also measure your bottom bracket. Yes its available, not sure how good they are but remember your front bra...

Re: Mid Drives Working With Coaster Brakes

Get a new bicycle with disc or V-brakes. The front brake takes most the braking action anyways so you could go ahead with your current bicycle. You could weld or braze on some v-brake studs or disc mount for the rear.

The BBSHD would be the #1 choice, and the #2 choice would be the Cyclone.

Re: Oil cooling a motor with transformer oil/dielectric fluid - the next frontier?

Yeah I dont know about venting a geared motor as all the dirt, grime and solids could chew up the gears. But it doesnt seem to be a problem with direct drive motors. People have tried lots of different methods from mini 12v fans glued inside the motor, to the metal holes having scoops to scoop more ...
