Re: Losing Lipo cells

Thank you for all your input. After replacing the cells in the #2 position 3 times after they sagged to 1v over and over I think I have a BMS that is stuck in discharge mode in this position. Does anyone agree? How would I test this BMS or future BMS's for proper function? Is this condition common?

Re: Losing Lipo cells

Based on that information maybe my pack does not allow the cells to swell. I have the cells bound together with light electrical tape within a flexible plastic case which I hoped would allow the thing to stretch a bit but I just took the pack apart and the bad cell was curved from what I assume was ...

Re: Losing Lipo cells

Thank you. I am trying to understand if it is one bad cell, wouldn't the bad cell and it's pair be low but the others would remain at the same voltage? Why would this whole section of the pack sag from one cell? Thank you

Losing Lipo cells

I collected a bunch of old 5AH Lipo packs that had bad cells, dissemble them and made a 14S2P 10AH pack. All the cells had at least 4AH capacity when discharging at 1C to 3.0v. I charged them all, joined the parallel wires then after 12 hours I connected a 14s BMS (https://www.ebay.com/itm/232964067...

Re: MP Vector Mini-Bike

After working out some loose ends and getting things tighter on the bike it is now more obvious how quiet this motor is. The other day I was riding and all I heard was the wind.... Pretty cool.

MP Vector Mini-Bike

This thing started life as a drift drift but that got boring so I chopped a scooter in half and bolted it to the back of a huffy slider frame to make a mini-bike that is F-U-N. Check it out!

Re: Drift Trike 20" Front Motor Hub Suggestions

I did not order the USB cable against Gary of GM CA's advice and I regret it. At 48v with the weight at the back of the trike the front wheel spins out and is hard to control. I have gotten better starting without spinning but my tire is already bald after a couple days! Pretty awesome power but its...

Re: Drift Trike 20" Front Motor Hub Suggestions

Golden Motors CA was out of the Magic Pie 3 but just listed the newest generation Magic Pie "Vector" so I bit the bullet and ordered one. Funny thing is in Gary's description and in his email correspondence he kept warning about the safety of road operation at 48v which made me want it all the more ...

Re: Drift Trike 20" Front Motor Hub Suggestions

I'm about to spend $250 on this motor, does anyone think this is a good or bad buy for the money? The trike is a toy that I will use probably 20 times so a $500 magic pie seems excessive: http://www.ebay.com/itm/400526603945?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&var=670116011450&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT...

Re: Drift Trike 20" Front Motor Hub Suggestions

Thanks for chiming in dogman. Before dropping $4-500 I have one more Aotema motor. I ran the first up to 48v for 15-20m and also have a controller with regen braking. Do you think I would have better luck if I ran 36v with a non regen controller? Also, does anyone have suggestions for a 48v 1000w br...

Drift Trike 20" Front Motor Hub Suggestions

I am building a drift trike to match the Local Motors trike (https://localmotors.com/MattJackson/verrado-drift-trike/). I had a cheap 24v 500w brushed motor that just fell apart so I need a replacement. My budget for a motor is $300-400, 20" wheel, 15-20mph, frequent stop and go, and powerful would ...

Re: Got a used 24v brushed Aotema bicycle

I ran the motor today at 36v for about 10 maybe 15 minutes. Motor got a little warm on its way to hot but didn't get there. From a stand still start I heard a thunk from within the motor and that was it.... no more power. Controller is still outputting power but the motor seems to be dead. Bummer! I...

Re: Got a used 24v brushed Aotema bicycle

I found two of these motors and they both came with the controllers pictured. Anyway I ran it last night with strong batteries and I used 24v with the 24v controller and it was dog slow. Then I ran it at 36 and 48 volts with a 4QD Porter 10 controller. At 48v it was fast but the wires were warm and ...

Re: Got a used 24v brushed Aotema bicycle

No I have not but that should happen in a day or two, just need to spoke my wheel. Going to give it a go at 24v then hook up a brushed 36v controller I have and try that out. If I were you I would start by testing the strength of your batteries.

Re: Got a used 24v brushed Aotema bicycle

Check out this throttle on ebay, just make sure the wire colors jive with what you have now otherwise you may need to rework it a bit: http://www.ebay.com/itm/SALE-Non-Lighted-Electric-Bike-Kit-Thumb-Throttle-Wilderness-Energy-/300950671658?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item46120ed12a Most useful post ...

Re: Got a used 24v brushed Aotema bicycle

I just came across 2 used motors and controllers that match your description so I am watching this thread closely for more info about them. I am planning on running them at 36 or 48 volts depending on what is safe and am curious if we can use this controller to run up to 48v even though 24 is printe...

If someone could help me it would be huge.

Will this motor start at all from a stand still? Will it be a little or extremely jerky? Any help or suggestions would be awesome, thanks

Electric Drift Trike Project

Heynow! I am a newb about to assemble an electric drift trike. I have been dreaming about one for 6 months and when I found (2) AOTEMA 2-wire front hub motors with throttles and controllers for cheap I took it as a sign from the universe that it was time. I think I have brushed sensor-less motors si...
