but what about rear wheel cassette
can you still change motor-rear sprocket gear ratio?

Re: Hub motor as mid (illegalbike) 6000W / 33kg

incredible simplicity of this build
so what are advantages of having motor at the cranks versus build into rear wheel.

Re: 5-phase brushless motor

so you dont know much about FALCO
it is not proprietary as BIONX and others
can you connect any battery to BIONX - NO
can you connect any battery to SHIMANO, BOSH.. - NO
that is prorietary
Falco will run on any battery of your choice
so it is not your typical proprietary!!!

Re: Another broken aluminum frame - Surface 604 Elements

orange frame looks scary to me
obviously frame broke in weakest spot, this horizontal fork is really too small in diameter.
but it all depends where did you ride ?
example:
I never jump down the curb under my own weight, always get off bike

Re: Heat Factor of an Ebike Controller

on one hand controller needs cooling on other hand it needs protection from rain.
of course your typical China brand controller is NOT rain proof.
I would try to transfer heat to bike frame through controller bracket.

Re: Newbie Questions

unless used batteries from hybrid cars
so batteries built from example Chevy Volt battery modules.
so they have a value when they come from low millage hybrids.
I ride my two ebikes powered by packs built from Volt cells.

following law of physics - low center of gravity , as low as possibly for stable ride.
placing weight of battery even on bike luggage rack makes it unstable for me.

Re: Are EzEbikes really made in the UK? How to verify?

The Chinese thing is pernicious, for sure. There's a city in Italy, Prato, where a lot of "fashion" clothing is made - by Chinese, working in conditions that their countrymen at home wouldn't put up with, if I remember right most there illegally. The clothing says, somewhat truthfully, &q...

Re: Thermal insulation for batteries?

I am very interested in this thread. I have 2 ebikes, winter one exclusively for riding on snow and ice in sometimes -20C. I do not use any thermal isolation on winter ebike battery, it is 11S made of Nissan Leaf cells. I always charge just before ride when pack is still warm. I can imagine any isol...

Re: Fried DD Motor, replace Stator only?

Eplus E+ DD 3-phase FOC with field weakening drive which powers my ebike reads the signal from temp sensor and when it reaches high temperature it limits power . notice - it limits power , it does not cut off power. Eplus was designed and manufactured in USA, by Electric Motion Systems . yes proprie...

Re: Fried DD Motor, replace Stator only?

why it happened?
no any over temp protection?
so controller does no receive any signal from temp sensor inside motor?
how primitive!

wear on cassette ?
no so much on DD hub motor drives.
my had been lasting for very long time
the reason for that ?
going uphill I use motor to reduce stress on cassette

Re: Magnetic brake cutoff sensors on road disc brakes?

typical brake lever on ebike - you pull the lever half way you engage regen, you pull more you start to grind brake pads /disc or V-brake. that is how typical DD motor ebike brake lever works beauty of any ebike is regen which saves pads, also on EV. also listening to those disc/pads noises ... pushbutton? hmm
sometimes you have only seconds to engage brake.
pressing pushbutton would have to be very strange way to engage regen braking

Re: Ebike touring and camping

Those PSUs you mention are fantastic units for the purpose but they are not full fledged chargers, in the sense of automatic stop-charge when the pack(s) get to Full. An electrickery savvy DIYer could rig an HVC cutoff, at the PSU input or repurpose a secondary BMS for that, that allows for suffici...

Re: Ebike touring and camping

If I rode my ebike across Canada I would try to choose roads with shoulders ONLY. charging takes a lot of planning with precise maps. my favourite charging ...
