Re: Bafang 8fun hub motor - backward spin resistance (drag)

That is because when you spin it backwards you drag the motor around with it, but when you spin it forward it freewheels. It happens because of the one way bearings. It's normal.

Re: Flier Brushless ESC HV 300A For Ebike

If anyone knows of an ESC that has current control (torque control) similar to that of a bike controller I'd be grateful to hear of it.

Re: Flier Brushless ESC HV 300A For Ebike

Right, I see that now. The current limit settings in the screenshot of the software are greyed out, indicating the controller does not support that function. The reason it's greyed out is because the software is in boat mode, as indicated in the top left. The current limit is an air function. ;) It...

Re: Flier Brushless ESC HV 300A For Ebike

If you look at the screenshot on the aliexpress spage you see "current limit".

I got a reply now from them saying it doesn't have current limiting. Typical Aliexpress seller inconsistensy. I will now ask how they limit "power", which isn't a reverse limit.

Re: Flier Brushless ESC HV 300A For Ebike

The ESC programming software has a setting called "Power Restriction", and power limit for forward and reverse if reverse is used. I wonder what the heck "Power restriction" is. Does it restrict current? It doesn't make sense to restrict "power". I have asked them on Ali. Actually, I will use it in ...

Flier Brushless ESC HV 300A For Ebike

I'm thinking about getting one of these, but I need to know how the current limiter works. Does it work like e-bike controller and allo acceleration at the current limit, or does it work like RC ESCs and cut power when you hit the limit? https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Flier-Brushless-ESC-HV-300A-Fo...

Re: Bottom Bracket Standards and Bafang mid drive motors

The clearance is roughly 12-13 mm (roughly 1/2"). Some carbon fiber frames may be too thick. Just about all aluminum or steel frames are thin enough.

Re: Project: Home made velomobile design with crank or mid m

No. It just shows both first and tenth gear so that I could see if the chain tensioner would work. :) However, it would be possible to make a two speed system with double chains that shifts up when the cadence gets high enough, using a centrifugal clutch. Would probably be really hard without assist...

Re: BBS02 whistle noise

Looks like the motor is pbeing pulled around when you spin the gear manually. My guess is the motor freewheel is stuck, and that the problem is not in the pedal axle or pedal freewheel. The pedal axle doesn't even move in your video.

Re: Project: Home made velomobile design with crank or mid m

Ideally I'd like to use a non-contact derailleur at the cassette and a large tensioner sprocket to reduce drag to an absolute minimum. The drawing shows a 76 tooth chainwheel. EDIT: Also it shows the chain line when in forst and in tenth gear to see if the tensioner would be able to span the full ra...

The wheel diameter settings in my BBS do not give acccurate speeds. I just use a GPS and change up or down as necessary.

Yes. The new one will have mcperson suspension and completely different spindles. The rear will be a single carbon fiber swingarm.

Re: Project: Home made velomobile design with crank or mid m

The velomobile is used for shopping and stuff like that, and for that kind of use I can ride on bike paths all the way.

I have looked into converting it to four wheels. It's never going to be a fast velomobile anyway, so the extra drag isn't going to matter much.

Re: Project: Home made velomobile design with crank or mid m

Almost all the bike paths here are at least twice as wide as my first velo, even with the 110 cm track. I ride in the road instead when there's less room or when there are a lot of pedestrians on them. Pedestrians in Norway are mostly mindless drones who don't give cyclists room for safe passing, ev...

Re: Project: Home made velomobile design with crank or mid m

That's cheaper than mine will be. :D But still, making things myself is half the point of the hobby to me. Pretty much the only things I won't make myself are the crank, bottom bracket, pedals, derailleur, shifter brake calipers and levers and chain. I have a crank I can use.

100 dollars is a really good price.

It's 3dnet.no PLA filament on a Wanhao Duplicator i3 printer.

Re: Project: Home made velomobile design with crank or mid m

How did you mount your front wheels? I took all the guts out of a sram wheel and threw them all away in the beginning and ordered some 29.5mm od bearings because that's what the inside of the hub was showing in a quick measurement. Currently, the bearings are a finger tight slip fit but I want a pr...

The basic diff design is done. It will be refined for lightness when I make the aluminum version. I'm printing a plastic version for testing now.
