Does/does not hub dynamo make sense on an E-bike?

Trying to get my head around this. I have hub dynamos on my two non-ebikes. One is my Randonneur bike, a Salsa Casseroll. The other is my commuter, a folding Bike Friday Tikit. I really like the convenience of knowing I always have lights on those bikes and am wondering whether I should consider tha...

Re: The Cycle Satiator, universal charger for the enthusiast

Looking forward to installing the update soon on my Mac! Nice new features, that's for sure! Question regarding the screen saver: Mine only seems to kick in when there is a battery connected to the satiator. I've noticed this a couple times when I forgot to hook the battery back up to the satiator a...

Re: New E-bike guy here, any suggestions.

Different supplier, but very similar to the battery I just bought last week. 48v 20 ah for $398 including shipping. 15 pounds. Where did you get yours at? I am looking for goo deals and the deal above is no longer available. I just checked, and strider's ink for a Lithium Ion 48V 20AH 1000W for les...

Re: Looking for a horn

I can give a big thumbs-up to the loud bicycle horn! I have had the airzound horn as well. Loud sound, but it didn't seem to register with car drivers that another vehicle was there. Plus, I would only get two or three blasts before it was empty. Got tired of constantly pumping the damm thing up all...

Re: The Cycle Satiator, universal charger for the enthusiast

Had the Satiator since Monday and am loving it! Sooo glad my original charger bit the dust. Just set up my first custom profile a couple of days ago. To acknowledge Justin's unbelievable patience with my extensive back and forth questions through email, I thought I should give my slow-charge ...

Re: Theft proofing your ebike battery.

Ah! I get it now, sorry. I tend to think too much in Xtracycle terminology. By side carrier frames, you meant the 'U-tubes." Yes, that could totally work. I could test it by using your cardboard box idea that way. After making sure the battery would work inside the case by making a cardboard box and...

Re: Theft proofing your ebike battery.

So you mean the side rails, right? Have to take a look at that. I don't want to interfere too mich with cargo carrying or passengers back there, but I think you might be on to something. Have to check when I get home. I found these 7.62 cases on line right now for $10! http://www.armysurpluswarehous...

Re: Theft proofing your ebike battery.

I like it! Mainly because it's a 50CAL AMMO CAN! Super cool! Have to eyeball the bike when I get home, but I'm thinking it won't fit due to my Stokemonkey set-up as you can see in this pic below: Stokemonkey and Guinness.jpg but maybe I can figure something else out? Hard to tell from a picture, and...

Re: Theft proofing your ebike battery.

I'm having the same dilemma. My Xtracycle Stokemonkey is pretty secure with locking skewars on pretty much everything, sold Kryptonite Mini-evolution U-Lock, but I'm always paranoid when I lock it in front of Costco, etc, and leave my battery in the frame bag. Yes, I could detach it and carry it in,...

Re: Charger problem, advice sought

Epilogue: Got a multi-meter. Checked both fuses, both are fine. Decided not worth trying to tear the old charger apart, so off to E-Waste it goes. Cycle Satiator on the way from Amazon as we speak. Should have it Monday at the latest! Very stoked! Thanks to everyone who chimed in and particularly Ju...

Re: Charger problem, advice sought

Reads like you might have hit LVC on a cell by draining it down perhaps to low for a older battery, and a new charger wont fix that.but there are experts that will have a answer soon to follow. I ran the motor for a bit a few days ago when this happened just to see if I could get the charger to enga...

Re: Charger problem, advice sought

That’s probably $90-$100 shipped to replace from BMS Battery or similar. Might be able to find one cheaper on eBay but getting the Volts/Amps right and then whatever balancing current, if any? Might be repairable but will need to open up and go DVM on some components. Electrical tape on wiring is u...

Re: Charger problem, advice sought

yes, check the fuse in the front end. remove the plug so you can get access to the side of the little fuse holder and it helps to use a screwdriver to leverage it out a use the tip in that little notch they put in the top of the fuse holder and it pops right out. check continuity of the fuse. do yo...

Charger problem, advice sought

I have a charger for the battery on my battery that powers my Stokemonkey. It is a 36V LiFePO4, 15 ahr. Pictures of the charger are at the bottom of the post. I bought the stokemonkey, battery and charger from a well-respected forum member about a year ago. It was made around 2009 and has very early...

Re: TyJedi's new Stokemonkey

I believe LiFePo4 is more tolerant of keeping them at full charge. Also their balance condition tends to drift more than lithium polymer batts, so not only is charging every night fine, but also be sure to leave it on the charger for long enough for it to go thru it's full balancing routine. A pack...

Judging by this pre-stokemonkey pic (taken two weeks ago) I think we do! We definitely get a lot of reactions, usually smiles when they see the dogs.

TyJedi's new Stokemonkey

Hi guys! Here's my new set-up. My dog Guinness is making sure it stays in place! ;) It's a 99 Specialized Hardrock bike with a Surly Rigid Fork, CETMA five-rail front rack, Velo Orange city bars, Xtracycle Free Radical, and Stokemonkey. It is pulling a doggyride mini-trailer. We have two Yorkies, Gu...

New/Old Stokemonkey install questions

Just got a used stokemonkey from one of your members and had it hooked up yesterday by my local LBS, Warm Planet Bikes in San Francisco. It was originally purchased in 2009 and has Cycle Analyst version 1.0 on it. So far, I have two issues and I wanted to run them by you folks: 1. Speed sensor not p...

HI Everyone! Reposting this as I realized I posted it by mistake the general E-Vehicles discussion area, and not the E-Bike General Discussion area. Clearly, I'm a noob! I live in the San Francisco Bay area, and I just bought a used Stokemonkey from a member and can't wait for the UPS guy to show up...

Sorry for the NOOB mistake!

Thanks,

Unable to send Private Messages

new to the forum. Sorry if this is the wrong place to post this, but I seem to be unable to send Private Messages, and I was not sure what else to do. I tried to PM Amberwolf but since I can't send PM's, I am somewhat stuck. Is this happening to everyone, or does it have to do with my new status? I ...
