Re: Nucular electronics - complete kit for ev! [beta]

7. I think you need to read up about electricity. Current kills, not voltage. How many times have you been shocked by static electricity? That's voltages in the 100,000 to millions of volts range, but may be 10mA of current. Compere that to 48v and 400 amps...which will cook you to a crisp in secon...

Re: bluetooth BMS?

...the number 7 FET is blown up. Do you mean number 5? It's groups 1-5 that failed. Regardless, what's the mechanism that causes this cascade? I think the management IC is the TI BQ76940 , which is for up to 15s. These 15 are split into 3 blocks of 5, so it's plausible that a whole block failed som...

the FET on a balance port fried itself. it happens on crappy bms.
But could this result in the failure cascading through 5 groups?

Re: bluetooth BMS?

Probably the balance wire of group 10 broke. Did you measure the voltages directly at the cell groups, instead of at the balance wires? Yep, I scratched through the Kapton and measured across 1-5 on the electrodes. Dead, dead, dead. Balance wires (and their solder connection to the electrodes) look...

Re: AliExpress battery pack unboxing (for my eZuma project)

Well it would appear that this display requires a phase wire to drive the speedometer. Or at least, that is how I am interpreting the following response from the seller: which way u takes for speed ? usually for this kind of display it has 5 ways to take signal -- this depends on your controller pr...

Re: bluetooth BMS?

Frustrating mystery from this weekend. Bottom line, 5/14ths of my pack is dead, and I don't know what it could be other than some BMS malfunction, although I haven't pinned it down. BMS is this one , 14s 30 A. I hadn't used my ebike in a couple months, although I connected via Bluetooth once per wee...

Re: Sabvoton SVMC072150 controller review, variable regen *PICS*

if you turn on regen on fully charged battery than you get over voltage error and need to reboot controller to make it work again. I'm using an SSC 72150 with a 14s battery and a QS 273 scooter hub motor. I'm really happy with my regen setup - enough slide regen to feel like engine braking on a gas...

Re: Nucular electronics - complete kit for ev! [beta]

21S = 72-91V depending on chemistry So no, not without a DC-DC boost converter or specialist charger in between. 3.86Vpc is **way** too low Perfect for 13S though I think you're talking about charging directly from a PSU. The discussion is about charging through the controller. is it possible to ch...

As I understand it, the controller has exactly this function. I don't know if there is a limit to how much it can boost, though.

Re: DC to DC converter have 3 wires for 48V+

What is the point of having red (48v+) always connected to the battery and then yellow (48v+) only when ignition is ON? Why not just only give the DC to DC converter 48v+ when the ignition is ON? Would that give to much current through the ignition? Or maybe it will cause to much sparking inside th...

Re: DC to DC converter have 3 wires for 48V+

Ok so i guess it makes sense to only give 48V+ to the controller when the ignition is OFF so that any recidual power inside the DC to DC converter cant be used to run the scooter after it is suppose to be OFF. If the controller is connected to the battery, and there is no "enable" line, then twisti...

Re: DC to DC converter have 3 wires for 48V+

Not a lot to go on here, but my guess is that the yellow wire is switched by the ignition to activate the converter. Some controllers (Sabvoton, ASI BAC) have low-current battery-level inputs to enable the controller, so that's probably what the red is. This prevents operation of the vehicle when th...

Re: Phaserunner TTL to USB converter : RS232 to TRS

The pinout is on pages 9-10 of the chip data sheet, so you could check continuity between the pins on the chip and the wire terminals. Looks like it's pins 12, 13, 15, and 20 for D+, D-, 5V, and ground, respectively. Where are you located? I found this on Amazon in the US and I could have it tomorro...

Re: Sabvoton SVMC072150 controller review, variable regen *PICS*

I'm looking for advice on getting the (non-variable) regen to work. I'd like to set up two levels of braking, with weaker "slide" regen when I release the throttle, and stronger "electric brake" regen when I grab the brake lever. I have slide regen working fine, but electric brake is having no effec...

Are you happy with that LLT BMS? I was considering buying one and trying it. Other than the issue with proprietary bluetooth described above, I've been happy with them, although I've only had them installed for a week and a half. Re: bluetooth BMS?

I use the 24s Smart BMS together with the VBMS app on android. Works for me. I'm using the one pictured below from LLT Power (purchased via the JBD Store ). I think the problem is that these are shipped with a proprietary BT module that only interfaces with the "official" Xiaoxiang app. This post i...

Imho you can't pair through "Settings", and this is NOT how it's intended to work. You open the app, it connects, and then it disconnects again after you close the app. No code needed ever.
I'm trying to use VBMS on Android. Is that what you're talking about?

Re: bluetooth BMS?

i know the app, and it does pair the device and releases it again when you close the app. you can see this when the app crashes for example and it doesnt disconnect the BT pairing. Maybe this is one reason why the app isn't on the app store and must be installed from the APK. Anyway, no one else ha...

Re: bluetooth BMS?

Yes. You need to pair it with your phone first. That is mandatory for every BT device. That is how it works. Pairing code is usually 1234 or 0000. Sometimes you have to manually select the device in the list if it cant find it as vbms is programmed to look for a specific BT adress in your paired li...

I'm wrapping up a build with a 14s 100 A version of these, and I'm having a problem with only the even-numbered groups balancing.
