Re: Converting a hubmotor to a middrivemotor

So using this data as a point of reference and according to my math a code 8 BPM @ 48 volts should get a person 442rpm at the output sprocket. Bafang BPM data.jpg 398*5/36=55.277kV 55.277*48/6=442.222rpm To get a reasonable pedal cadence of say 80rpm we would need to gear down by a ratio of 5.527:1 ...

Mind sharing where you found such an awesome deal on that BPM? Inquiring minds want to know.

Also, is this the staton inc. adaptor you're talking about?

Re: DIY spot-welder, transformers from microwave ovens?

I actually kinda like that design with the capacitor selector. Very resourceful use of low tech parts. A friend of mine once showed me a spot welder they'd developed at DND (about a hundred years ago) that used a rotary phone to *ahem* dial in the number of pulses needed to make the weld. Life befor...

Re: Reliable aliexpress battery pack?

Hope this is not too OT but I notice on their aliexpress page that UPP packs won't ship to Canada. When I change the location to the US it says it won't ship there either. In fact, out of the handful of countries I selected, only the UK and Norway were viable options, which really doesn't help me at...

Vruzend.com was selling LG MJ1 cells for $4 a pop last I checked. I'm pretty sure they're based out of Florida and is run by one of the board members here. Check the for sale section under new. Member Okashira seems to be selling tesla car cells out of Texas. For sale (used) section. Of aliexpress I...

Re: How much regen power is possible?

I feel like I'm missing something important here. If a li-ion battery is OK to recharge at 1C then a 4P (for example) setup of 3.5ah cells is perfectly happy to charge at 3.5*4 = 14A? Why does this seem so high? Also, I'm really intrigued by this bridge rectifier concept. Has this been tested? I'm l...

Re: 18650 Cell Source

Just thought I'd drop by to say my order from nkon arrived today. Placed it on July 17 and the man at the door wanted $35 CAD and change. Box looked a little beat up but I think the foam peanuts took the brunt of it. Good thing they're hydride batteries. From my experience, I would recommend dealing...

Re: Do any BMS's balance at 4.1V instead of 4.2V?

As was implied (I believe) in one of SMs articles, there really isn't much incentive for battery manufacturers to advertise the fact that NOT fully charging a given cell could significantly increase its lifetime. IF, however, a car company offers an 8 year warranty on their vehicle's battery pack, y...

Hmm, that's curious. I'd hate to put myself in the unenviable position of buying one and not being happy because it doesn't perform better than its officially rated.

Thanks for the info, though. 'Preciate it.

Re: What kind of charger?

That's an attractive price, too. They even have 400W one for el-cheapo. Are these safe to use as chargers? Hey Amberwolf, I'm looking at the datasheet for the HLG-600 and it's telling me that the 54A version can be adjusted from 45.9-56.7 but if you're charging a 14s pack you'd need more like 58, so...

Re: What kind of charger?

It would be nice if there were a simple BMS out there that would allow for cell balancing at say 4.1 or 4.15 to extend battery life. @Cal the CLG series do indeed seem to allow for more leeway in adjusting voltage output. Still, it'd be really spiffy to have a charger that would allow for a +/- 1S p...

What's that work out to, 13 cents a watthour? Seems to me anything under 30 and you're doing pretty well.

What are you going to do with 1000 18650 cells though?
