Re: Reputable/reliable 48v batt sellers for BBSHD build

Don't know if this will help or cloud the issue, but my BBS02 with 52V, 10 ah Luna battery easily ascends a 3,000', 8 mile climb and has for four years as well as powering a 1000w, 48V rear hub errand bike. I'm 6'1', 180 with 10 or so pounds of backpack. My 36V Haiblke-Yamaha hardtail used 50% of it...

Re: la Nina rears her ugly head

Been raining most of the night and probably day in the "OC", but totals will probably be only an inch or so. Was riding at 4,000'+ yesterday in Saddleback Mountain and had fun in the snow.

Re: la Nina rears her ugly head

Surprised you're not receiving more since socal has the same prediction, and usually the Bay area gets a lot more than us. Supposed to start early AM tomorrow, then on and off for a couple of days.

Good comic relief; kind of like comparing a Yugo with a Ferrari to me.

Rain coming down in parts of socal, but only sprinkling in my corner of the "OC".

Re: la Nina rears her ugly head

Maybe the Bay area will go back to ice boxes soon. Are generators still unavailable or infeasible? We've had a smattering of wind in socal (enough to close some parks), but rain is anticipated in the next couple of days.

Re: Convert 2 Classic MTBs to eBikes

For me, the hardtail plus Thudbuster are adequate, but I'm not a downhill bomber either and ride relatively tame as opposed to very gnarly trails. I have a FS donor bike (languishing in the garage) that may receive an "update" someday, but I'm not in a rush.

Re: Convert 2 Classic MTBs to eBikes

AFAICT, we're still waiting for "Ultra" frames to be available in the "west". Also, even with a $500 frame your budget will be increased to $2000+ with a good fork and rear shock plus conversion parts. I did a frame up steel hardtail (Fox fork) plus BBS02 for about $1500 and have ridden if for four ...

Re: Preventing BBSHD Removal

There's at least one company that makes bolts with unique patterns to prevent parts theft; look it up. That seems the most feasible way to prevent theft of the motor. Also possible to ruin the "inside" threads on the crank arm so it couldn't be removed with a bike tool, but the thief might return wi...

Re: TSDZ2 from Pswpower

A coaster brake won't work with a mid-drive since (AFAIK and with my BBS02) the crank "freewheel's". Your only option with a coaster brake is front hub drive.

Re: Adjusting battery location using Wolf Tooth B-Rad

Another thing you can do to reinforce the mount system is use a Velcro wrap or "toe strap" to anchor the battery. I do this with a Haibike even though the battery mounting system seems functionally adequate.

Re: Buying ebike online from China??

November 11 is Alibaba's "Partnership Day" (big sale). They sold $30 billion worth of goods last year vs US $7 billion on Cyber Monday. Haven't ever purchased anything on 11/11 yet, but I'll be looking. Would like a Bafang Ultra motor in a frameset.

Re: New 1000w Geared hub MXUS XFC19

A 350w MXUS geared rear hub drive was "adapted" to a Dolomite for a friend and it was bulletproof. Used it for awhile, then transferred to an MTB with similar great performance for a small motor.

Doug at CA bike used to machine BB parts to extend a 68 - 73 BBS BB ot "fat bike" width. Maybe he can machine something to take a 120 to 132.

Did you contact Frey and/or M2S to determine whether they wold sell a frame and motor only. Also, there are thread(s) where an individual purchased a carbon frame and Ultra separately and built it up.

Would seem feasible economically to have a system that at least will keep the refrigerator cold (or never have much food in it during this season).
Looks like you have escaped the rampant fires that are prevalent down here.

Re: BBSHD vs. BBS02?

I've been riding a BBS02 for 4+ years off road and it's been perfect. For me, no need for the extra expense and weight of the HD model. I'm always in either no assist or "1" (of 5), sometimes "2" for really steep and/or sandy ascents. Can't imagine ever getting out of "1" with the HD. The other bene...

Re: Fast Electric Cargo Bike for my Bay Area Commute

I've ridden my BBS02 for four years of fairly rough off road MTB with a 52V battery, have never even added/changed the grease, but wouldn't consider it for regular commuting. Several individuals have logged 15K to 25K+ miles with inexpensive DD systems and everything should be increased with better ...
