Re: bottom bracket bbshd

I had a GT Zaskar and needed to file the BB in order to remove some material in order for a BBS02 installation. The threads were "buggered" by the motor, but I had them "chased" by my LBS when the bike was returned to analog (for want of a better term).

You can't send a battery with more than 300wh by mail unless you do it through a hazardous goods broker. The fine can be up tp $50K.

Re: Just completed first commute on DIY eMTB, thoughts…

Take a look at revgrips.com; they sell "suspension" grips (there are inserts that cushion the hands). My friend, who basically almost lost one hand in an industrial accident, said they improved his off road experience 100%. Expensive, but can be rebuilt so don't need to be replaced. Also, ...

It's "street legal in CA as a moped (maybe), but if so requires a license plate, MC license for the operator and insurance.

Re: best value hub motor for mountain bike conversion

Since you're in CA, look at ebikesca (Grin). They will advise you and have kits. Don't discount a front hub system. They provide a more balanced ride, are lighter and don't feel like you're riding a bike with concrete in the rear than rear hubs IMO.

Try putting soap suds on the sidewall and inflate to maybe 60 psi CAREFULLY (maybe with safety glasses in place).

Considering the ramifications of forks breaking precipitously, you might proceed with caution. If it were me, they would be replaced.

As above, great thread; it would be really interesting if members would post their locations (even if just general area) so we could see what seems to be the characteristics in different areas. Another thing that I noticed in an affluent area of socal was a proliferation of Super 73's ridden (one or...

Re: Can't shift to lowest gear with Bafang mid-drive motor installed

FME, the right BBS02 crankarm is displaced about 10 - 15 mm farther from it's chainstay than the left. You can use a Lekkie chainring, which brings the chainring in enough to access all the gears. Also a Lekkie "curved" right arm will overcome the problem of the "unsymmetrical" s...

Re: I agree with Dick the Butcher

Obviously a tragedy of unimaginable proportions. However, IMO, individuals are shamelessly suing to use their daughter's death for financial gain. I hope Rad fights this fiercely (other OEM's would do well to help shoulder the financial cost) or there's going to be a tsunami of lawsuits. Otherwise, ...

After about six months of use, the motor has developed an annoying "clunk" which needs to be addressed. I recommend that individuals looking for a quality product to go elsewhere.

Really interesting thread. The number of e-bikes in socal has exploded. I've been to several beach areas (Newport, Dana Point, Doheny) and there is a plethora of "e" activity, but not one DIY in sight. I asked my LBS (big shop with two locations) owner, a very progressive individual, if he...

"Run", thank you for elucidating that. Looks like a good individual to avoid. Perhaps the mods should step in.

I've never heard anything good about Frey's practices and this solidifies my opinion (IMO). How many times do you need to say the same thing?

GT Helion and Sensor and Giant Maestro-suspended 29er bikes, if available in AU, might do well for you. The shock is next to the bottom bracket affording a large area for batteries.

Re: The high power front hub thread

I had a 350w, 36V front hub on a MTB and it was possibly the most fun I've had on an e-bike. When ascending in the dirt it was necessary to stand and put more weight on the front wheel. Sadly, my daughter absconded with the system. Then, I built a three-speed cruiser with a 1000w, 52V, DD hub and it...

Re: Industry worried about fed regulations, selling “overpowered” bikes

It's laughable trying to sue owners when individuals are riding around (road, off road and bike paths) with impunity on e-bikes and EUC's that have massive amounts of power. Riders won't be sued, they will be cited. There are people in places like California and New York who are being charged with ...

Re: Industry worried about fed regulations, selling “overpowered” bikes

This seems to apply to manufacturers and most are in China, so impervious. If you think the foreign origin of an e-bike exempts it from local laws, you ought to try legally importing and registering a car into California from China . . . or Nebraska. Apparently you didn't understand the statement, ...

Excellent report. Surprisingly, I haven't experienced the surging problem in seven years with a BBS02 or more probably, I'm too obtuse to notice it.
