Re: E-S Stealth Electric Bike Owners

Sounds like a PITA! I have personally never had an issue paralleling balance leads, but I've also never mixed old/new or different cell types. I think that is key. Technically it's no different that paralleling tens of 18650's and they all act as one large cell. If one is weak it will drag the rest...

Re: E-S Stealth Electric Bike Owners

I never did find out exactly what caused it, but I suspect your on the right path there Emmett. I'm just glad I was carrying a bunch of C02 or it could have ended very differently! Your battery fire video made me very paranoid about the danger and I'm grateful for that. So I've frequently checked m...

Re: E-S Stealth Electric Bike Owners

The problem is you can't help looking at this like every engineer I know. Everybody's crap is crap lol. because you been there, done that. Sometimes it's better to be a little dumb like me, I don't over think it. When I look at what they're doing, I'm thinking they know how to do it a lot better th...

Re: E-S Stealth Electric Bike Owners

Emmet There is a small rechargeable backup battery inside the DC1. It may need replacing. Remove the jumper on the back of the DC1 to disconnect the battery and see if that helps. You may need to replace the battery. :) Thanks Cruzxia! Tomorrow I'll get in there and have a look. Plan A will be to r...

Re: Oil cooling your hub- NOT snake oil!

It's been many years since I posted in this thread, but thought I'd share a little update in case anyone is having issues... Oil cooling is awesome. I have a castor oil cooled H4040 with hubsinks and MC rim and 3" fat tyre pumped at 6400W peak with 18S2P (73V) and riding lots of tight to medium spee...

Re: Stealth DC-1 display

Has anyone had the problem with a DC-1 display on a Stealth bike, where the display either: 1. powers up but displays nothing (all white) or 2. the display flickers while trying to power up, then after about 5 or 10 minutes, it works properly? Thought I'd ask here before asking Stealth support. Mayb...

Re: E-S Stealth Electric Bike Owners

My controller and wires can pump enough amps through the 4065. Problem is the controller and motor get way way hotter with the H4065 on than when using the H4040. Also the H4040 produces a torque boost lower in the RPM range - which I guess is closely related to controller programmed logic and not ...

Re: E-S Stealth Electric Bike Owners

So it sounds like in your case you don't have the option of adjusting the phase amps of your controller. In that case, yes a higher wind motor is the best option for you to get more torque. I would not go higher than a 5T though (assuming you can even find a 6T or higher) as the decrease in speed w...

Re: E-S Stealth Electric Bike Owners

but 18650's and 21700's are closing the gap. The 14P pack I built for my Alpha was able to 140A peak whereas the LiPo setup it replaced could do 160A so not too much difference under certain conditions. There is no such thing as a 'high torque' or 'high speed' hub motor. They can just be purchased ...

Re: E-S Stealth Electric Bike Owners

I hardly make/sell any wiring harness any more now as most people just want 18650/21700 packs due to the better capacity available. That being said, wiring harness with LiPo still has it's place if you just want raw, punchy power and don't mind loosing out a bit on the capacity. Your wiring harness...

Re: E-S Stealth Electric Bike Owners

This is spot on and exactly why I build my own and now others packs. Hi CD, What's your latest thoughts on the LiPo battery system with the power cabling kit I bought from you in 2016? I've been doing a lot of riding lately, and my battery pack is still working great. I've got 6 Turnigy 10000mAH 6S...

Re: E-S Stealth Electric Bike Owners

As recommended by Rix, I run a Shinko SR241 at about 10 PSI on a narrow 19" moto rim. With Tubliss. It just clears the chain on my Fighter. It's awesome. Initially I was concerned about the additional unsprung weight and negative handling. But it has a huge benefit to handling because the fat sponge...

Re: Oil cooling your hub- NOT snake oil!

Thanks for the info! Only issue with castor oil is the viscosity in cold. It can get -20C around here so best option is still to use normal Mobil1 synthetic car oil or AT-oil? Wow, -20 air temps! Yeah, too cold for castor. If not ferro-fluid, then you better use a mineral oil. Just a bummer because...

Re: E-S Stealth Electric Bike Owners

Is there a setting in the DC1 that only allows charging up to 90%...? Otherwise, I'm not sure how I can manage "consistent" charges to 90% with a timer, unless I dial the 3 hours back to an hour or so...? If you know the cell type (max volts per cell), nbr cells in series and the charged volts for ...

Re: Oil cooling your hub- NOT snake oil!

So what do you think, if I seal the cover seam with silicone, drill a small hole and put some AT-oil inside? No need to open the motor while cooling and rust-proofing is provided easily. I use castor oil in my H4040 motor. No odour like ATF and much easier to clean away any leaks. The process to se...

Re: E-S Stealth Electric Bike Owners

I take it your hub has breath holes in with regards to you saying sealing the hub beforehand? My hub does not have any breath holes in not sure if that is a good thing or not ? Thanks for the response. Took it for a good ride today everything was great until I was on my way home approximately 30% power remaining so I used the regain button which made a loud thud in the hub now the hub won't spin , if I turn it off the on again it gets to spin thus then Nothing?? Re: E-S Stealth Electric Bike Owners

Emmett, I'm sure the all axle motor will be made available to suit the rear end too. It's just a different side cover away OK great. I'll watch that space. I'd guess that a bath of ATF will lube gears better than any gel grease. Also Dex-VI TF is low viscosity and a very good lube. It's an excellen...

Re: E-S Stealth Electric Bike Owners

As CD said, I've been loving LiPo brick power (Multistars) for some time now. Maybe a year. 18S2P setup. So 75V. Very good energy for the weight and volume. I run the 6S balance lead for each brick to outside the frame head so I can monitor each one for good health, and after about 35 cycles they ar...

Re: E-S Stealth Electric Bike Owners

The hubs are just about 4.3kg. Cooling is passive but usually you munch the composite plastic gears before you'll burn the windings. 2kw is the max you can run in them unless you're very gentle. ~1500w is much better for longevity. I think the new grin all axle DD hub motor is an interesting one fo...

MAC 10 with 9fets 4110 Fet controller running 4 6S 20000Mah Multistars with 2 banks in series and 2 parallel. Basically a 50 volt 20AH lipo pack HOC. Packing a whopping output of 33amps and not volt sag. For what it is, which its a lower powered light weight trail slayer, its fun. Sounds great Rix....

Re: E-S Stealth Electric Bike Owners

I know some of you use Castor Oil. But since I live in a country that has the population of a medium sized US town and Castor Oil is very difficult to get hold of here. What other options have you guys used with god results? Compressor oil would work OK. ATF is better. Since it's thinner. If you ha...
