Re: Disadvantages of higher Battery Voltage

I have somewhere a 18650 test report from Nasa that concludes that parallell battery strings should not be more than 5 to keep the failure risk low enough for their liking :D

It's a risk even though the other batteries will try to balance the group if there are many cells involved.

Re: QS 3000w midmotor

I have to correct myself, I run 600A phase, 200A battery@72V. I don't sustain it for long, only for drag races and such, it doesn't take that kind of energy to go full speed. -->i can not vouch for the long term capability of the motor, i mean 3000w is obviously a ridiculously low rating by QS and i...

It's in this thread, i added resistors in the potentiometer lines to offset the starting voltage and end voltage of the throttle.

Re: QS 3000w midmotor

I have not so much to say other that i'm thinking of buying the smaller 1000w or 2000w also! It's not had any issues yet even though i ride at 300A, but i run on road. If you buy one then ask them to install a temp sensor in the motor. I think this is worth it since the temperature is impossible to ...

Re: Disadvantages of higher Battery Voltage

Isn't it the same battery issues no matter what voltage? You want xxx Wh range, it's either x*y batteries or y*x batteries to get there An 18650 cell is roughly 10wh, You want 1000wh, it's 100 batteries, arranged in the way that suits the rest of your system. parallell batteries are harder to protec...

Re: Disadvantages of higher Battery Voltage

If you give a motor voltage way above what it was designed for, it might arc through the insulation of the windings. We are talking 2x+ here. This is not a problem, most ES applications are 0-150V systems, not even close to the limit of the winding wire and motors can normally not be overvolted 2x,...

Re: Winding Varnish / Electrical Insulation Coating for Motor Repair?

It's a gamble but could work.. the varnish i have used soaked really well into the winding, i heated the entire stator to 40 deg C to help with the flow. It can be soaked several times. Question is only if you will get it to the correct spot, thick enough.. Other question is that the heat resistance...

Pretty good copper fill, not 100% full, but still far better than the 12090. ..They are .8mm on my calipers and there are 5 strands. ..With thinner wire like in your pro, they could have easily added another strand So the fill percent is the sam...

Re: Revolt RV-series motor review and comparisons

the RV-100 series reveals an interesting detail. I just wish the RV-100 regular was also at a similar Kv. Look at the phase resistances. This is exactly what I would expect. The regular (lowest wattage) has the smallest phases and the highest resistance. Followed by the Pro and then the E with the ...

I've had the same washboard effect (only slightly) but i think that time was overtemp in controller or motor, can't remember which. Maybe the temperature limiting feature is causing it? Worth to check!

Re: Revolt RV-series motor review and comparisons

I've been trying to badger multiple manufacturers to sell me a DD with 0.27mm lams for use in a 20" bicycle wheel. Even offered to pay 100% of the R&D even if it means a single motor costs me 4x more than their retail price, just so that i can get a prototype and dyno it. No biters! Maybe it's time...

Re: Revolt RV-series motor review and comparisons

The problem at ES is that people here are fixing the manufacturers issues. The "single bad soldering" happened to other users and the motors just died since the solder melted. I am pretty sure user "dauntless" or "boisrondevens" had it, can find it if i look a little, One of my two motors had this i...

Now I remember your posts on the Revolt motors...not very thorough or detailed... ...This is far better copper fill in the 120-reg. Re: Revolt RV-series motor review and comparisons

the revolt reviews are in my posts. Well documented, and i think you already wrote earlier that you read some of them.. In the rotor losses thread possibly. The low copper fill, useless soldering of wires etc has been a general issue for Revolt. It was 22% copper fill in my motor originally.. And if...
