Re: Well, it finally happened.......

Seems just from the charts that child fatality dropped 75% 1985 to 2015

I don’t see any chart for helmet use, i assume that the larger part of the helmet adopters are children. That’s what it was here, also before regulation

Request a replacement/refund. If this is a repaired unit then god knows if they replaced enough parts.

No way of testing will tell if you got what you should.

Re: RC throttle interface build tutorial........

I will try in a while. Since halls don’t output 0-5V it will need calibration, which some units have but still not sure if it’s enough.

Glad it annoyed you, you paid attention. I'm not sure I said I was smart. But I explained how I handle this particular situation that has happened to me plenty of times, on bikes, cars, mopeds, trucks. People drive like shit for sure and you better be ready, and experience will teach. Several of my...

Yes, i did drive that way, doesn’t matter when the old lady suddenly starts to go into the intersection a few meters in front of you and you just barely have a millisecond to run off the road to avoid her, or any situation like that. Without my full attention and a bit of sixth sense i would be plas...

Re: Well, it finally happened.......

Great to hear you survived this, not far from going the other way in the type of crash you describe. I stopped driving motorbikes after five near death experiences in a few years time. I figured there’s a sixth, a seventh and then someday it’s the real reaper coming. Of those five only one was my ow...

Re: Why do I now ride my ebike with light motorcycle gear?

this one piece of safety equipment reduced my situational awareness by a lot (which in itself isn't very safe). I’d disagree here on many reasons. Noise tiredness and bumblebees being two of them. ”Easy rider” sure is a good movie to promote the dream of riding but for most riders it stops at that....

Re: Multistage axial flux motor design and prototyping

I’ve gotten provoked cutouts on FOC sensorless controllers from ice patch skidding back to asphalt and especially from jumping. Wheel loses traction, spins to max speed, smack! onto ground. this is equally fast process with high g-forces acting as a whip through the chain. Not to bash the 75/300 ves...

Re: Multistage axial flux motor design and prototyping

No, just anecdotal. It’s not only challenging at low speed though but the reason the RC ESC:s don’t immediately explode with a propeller but explode in traction application is just that: a propeller provides a nice constant load and the needed current is exponential vs the rpm.

Re: Multistage axial flux motor design and prototyping

Propeller application is also easy vs traction/EV

High constant load / high current at high rpm / high BEMF

(Not full current peaks at zero rpm, current peaks and reverse load from jumps and chain slack etc)

Re: Multistage axial flux motor design and prototyping

I'm not really agreeing with that, I know that low inductance motor are hard to drive and require high switching frequencies but i would think we are now at a point in time where those controller are doable and actually exist. Benjamin vedder prooved with his vesc 75/300 a 70khz switching frequency...

Well, all the programs i’ve tried work. Could be your cable, cable driver, wrong com port, some windows 10 incompatibility etc. No one will be able to help you without more info.

Re: Multistage axial flux motor design and prototyping

ben katz couldn’t reslly drive his motor due to too low inductance. Guess that’s an effect of the coil sides cancelling inductance due to the thin disc. No matched controller, no drive. Think about that before spending a gazillion hours designing this. More steel, more turns, more cigarettes. Any wa...

I’d think you need phase resistance and inductance, it sets the electric time constant value.

It’s a pretty simple test. I’d bet my money that one of your sensors is broken or the wiring/connections not reliable.

Re: phase current settings

QS138 70h can take almost whatever you throw at it. I’ve run 600A phase without issues, also Em-150 at max.

The golden motor is another issue. Read here that they’re not so efficient. it also depends on the phase to phase resistance and kV. Someone else has to help you with that one

It’s just a scaling thing. If it saves you a little in a small crash it might just save you a lot in a bigger one. Pretty sure my concussions would’ve been head trauma without those helmets.. it takes down the accelerations a lot.

Re: Why do I now ride my ebike with light motorcycle gear?

Have worked as a bike messenger and rode bikes 15000km per year for some years: winter ice, rain or sunshine. Raced mtb and road bikes. I have been saved by the helmet a few times: cracked two bike helmets in half, one motorcycle helmet. In my opinion saying it’s not beneficial (or needed) below 20m...

Re: Temporary precharge circuit

I see your logic but in all controllers i’ve had, never had this problem even though i just used whatever resistor i had at hand. Must be dependent on hardware solution also, those controllers that have an on off switch will not draw sleep current until active, rc esc:s and simpler controllers might.

Re: Kelly KLS & Revolt RV-160E watercooled : cogging noise and overheating

I must say this: switch motor instead of throwing more money at revolt motors. Fechter is probably right that the magnets will be damaged now, that’s one of the most overcooked motors i’ve seen here. The QS 138 90H motor would probably work for you in this drive application, also the qs138 70 motor ...

Depends on the resistance, of course. Too low a resistance and you will still trigger short protection; too high and you won't precharge enough.
Too high precharge resistance and precharge will take longer than your patience (it will always precharge enough with time)

Re: Programming APT AE96600 controller (update: NOT recommended, unstable program)

@larsb Ok thanks for the info, I suppose that does make sense. So it would make sense to me that the controller is doing some magic electronically at low RPMs to turn those volts into amps, providing more torque. And as your RPMs rise, it needs more of those volts to increase the RPMs, so naturally...
