Re: Denzel 72v 4-spd Gearbox Build DB17

This motor with gearbox is mostly suited for ATV/quad/cargo 3 or 4 wheelers IMO. Not for narrow 2 wheelers/bikes.
The fact that you only need a simpler/cheaper battery pack to be able to haul heavy cargo and/or tackle steep hills by selecting a lower gear is the selling point of this combination.

Re: Good resource for those in need of help

Good result!
Just a shame that a knowledgeable guy like him seems to build a battery without cell holders but instead by glueing cells together and not using extra protection rings on the positive terminals. That doesn't appear very professional.

Re: 300hp single seat off road buggy project

Why would you want a gearbox in your buggy? And a very inefficient slush box even? Just use sprockets and a (double) chain to get the right gearing. You don't need the top speed that 300hp is capable of (160mph?) so just gear the motor to the maximum speed you desire. For an off road single seat bug...

Re: Electric Wheelchair Attachment - DIY

The traction on loose terrain is ok, but still the motor can do the wheelspin at any speed :? More weight on front axle is needed Great to see it is being used and enjoyed! Normally if a handcycle is used on a wheelchair then the wheelchair has a second rear axle to move the wheels further back and...

Re: Generic 50cc Scooter conversion

Always nice to see conversions from ICE to electric. The biggest problem with an ICE scooter like the one you want to convert is the friction based CVT belt system. It is not wise to only replace the ICE engine and keep the CVT system in place. It is very inefficient and will eat a lot of power. So ...

At this rate, in total I rode a couple of hours, then the controller broke. Closed two phases inside the controller.
How did that happen?

Re: Electric Wheelchair Attachment - DIY

I would try and add a second brake disk on the other side of the motor. And use a separate brake lever on the right side for it. Now you have only one brake and if that fails at 45km/h... Hopefully you did use the brake switch to the controller. You could also weld the clutch in the motor so...

Re: Yamaha V Star 1100 Conversion

It won't work. And talking about a small wind generator shows you have no idea about all this. Before buying any parts please read through this site and gain some knowledge. Then look up what Zero Motorcycles has for a drive train and battery pack to be able to ride two up at a serious distance. Ac...

Re: Yamaha V Star 1100 Conversion

Trying to achieve your goals by electrifying your worn out chopper bike will cost 8 to 10 thousand dollar. So if you think you can't afford a new bike just get a low mileage second hand ICE bike. That would be much wiser and less frustrating.

Another point, the small generator along with solar on the flat areas and a small wind generator can all be combined to increase the range, even if only by a bit. It won't work. Re: Yamaha V Star 1100 Conversion

5kW is moped power but then on a 2 to 3 times as heavy motorbike? How slow do you plan to go? The battery pack needed to go 200 miles with the motorcycle and two people (700+ pounds?) will be very large and heavy.

You might consider some kind of transmission in case you hit a hill. 2 speeds would likely be enough.
Maybe only remove the ICE engine and mount the electric motor to the gearbox? That way you can choose the gear ratio as needed and are even able to carry/move more serious weight.
