Re: OpenEbike - open source frame design

Please let a real engineer "design" the frame instead of a "designer" who is "inspired" by honeycombs.
Or get a designer who likes triangles better than hexagons...

Great. I hope you'll update this thread with photo's of the conversion so other people Googling might find this thread and learn from it. And I love builds like this so I'll be following also.
Good luck!

Re: Electric handbike

I think you're right and that option 1 is indeed the best. Although I personally would still get a 48V battery with that motor. Then even with voltage sag and going uphill you can still reach 25km/h and above. And you don't have to go faster than you like but you can if the road and circumstances ar...

I don't think scrambler is aware that the bike you're following is also a Sur-Ron (if I'm not mistaken)?

Re: Electric handbike

I would go with the 36V 201rpm Q128C and run it at 48V (=268rpm). That way you have a motor that can handle more power without overheating.

Re: High wattage hub motor for 150mm drop out required

Basically it isn't ebike territory anymore when you want 8kW continuous... These are electric motorcycle hub motors so you should use a motorcycle frame and swing arm. Or if you have the Enduro type ebike frame with steel swing arm you can weld different end plates to it to get the 190mm dropout wid...

Why not let Hyena spoke you rim? Are they unable or unwilling to do so?

Re: High wattage hub motor for 150mm drop out required

The combination of 150mm dropout and 8kW continuous will prove difficult, if not impossible, to find. A QS273 V3 motor has 8kW continuous but is around 190mm wide between axle flats. Maybe ask QS to turn down the disk brake side and have the axle shortened? Otherwise, if you can, do that yourself or...

Re: Electric handbike

If he needs to be able to use the handbike manually without motor assist then you should choose the Q128 geared hub motor. The Q128H is the version for a freewheel gearset and the Q128C for a cassette.

Re: Electric handbike

Reading your comments and looking at his handbike I wonder if it wouldn't be safer to use a DD (direct drive gearless) motor combined with a programmable sinewave controller so you can programm regenerative braking and are flexible with a lot more parameters? I myself have a pure manual handbike and...

Why not keep the current motor (not broken or worn out?) and just get 36V controller and battery to run the motor a little faster?

Please also make a wide front fork and insert the same wheel in there as is in the rear and then mount a Cyclone 3000W middrive to the chain drive!

Re: Sur-Ron - New Mid drive Bike from China

Great video!
Seems to me that the simplest solution to combat the overheating is to gear the bike down a little. A 1 tooth smaller front sprocket might be enough?
