Re: Sur-Ron - New Mid drive Bike

Wouldn't a small generator and the original charger be more efficient then running your van's engine to charge the 12V batteries to then use an inverter or voltage booster to charge your Sur Ron bike's battery? And the small generator could be used for different things in the van/camping and around ...

Re: Newbie project for commuting ebike - Help plz!

If you decided to buy the TDSZ2 then go to the thread for that mid drive here on E-S: https://endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=79788&start=4425 There are the people with experience mounting, using and upgrading the TDSZ2. For seeing how to do the installation I would suggest to search ...

Re: Newbie project for commuting ebike - Help plz!

I don't know what the normal hourly rate is in that bike shop and they probably find it difficult to guess how much time it will cost them. Especially if they don't have (much/any?) experience doing it. But why not try it yourself? If you get stuck there is help on this forum. And if you really have...

As far as I understand it, if you want better acceleration and speed it is better to put the extra complexity, cost and weight in a bigger/stronger electric motor, controller and battery then in a gearbox.
Go tell the EV drag racers.
Should I really have added "for road legal" EV's...?

Re: Newbie project for commuting ebike - Help plz!

You can change these bare cables with complete bowden cables and route them above the bottom bracket. Now it is probably a short piece of bowden (outer flexible "tube" with inner steel cable) from the lever to a fixed tab on the frame. Then the bare steel wire/cable down along the frame and under th...

Re: Newbie project for commuting ebike - Help plz!

Yes, just order the 750W rated kit. In the TDSZ2 thread some have had to replace the blue plastic gear for the metal one. Most important is to keep the rpm of the motor up by shifting down when necessary. That way the torque stays within reasonable levels and everything lives longer. In the dedicate...

Re: Newbie project for commuting ebike - Help plz!

I think that is wise. If you go for the TDSZ2 kit and Battery from PSW Power then be sure to measure the width of your bottom bracket shell (68 or 73mm) so you'll order the correct one. See here at nr.2: http://www.khurramhashmi.org/khurramweb_com/drivetrain-bottom-bracket-cartridge.html sw-72-2.jpg

Re: Newbie project for commuting ebike - Help plz!

I don't have experience with that specific battery pack. I do have a Chinese LiFePo4 pouch cell battery pack that i was able to revive (my fault, let it uncharged for years) and am using that for half a year now. From what I've read so far is that the brand-less Chinese cell battery packs do work bu...

I see I put the wrong link for the battery in my post. This is the one I wanted to post: http://www.pswpower.com/ven.php?cargo.2018-9d-q51b So that would result in $555.- total and be around €500,- in our currency  I really think that for your use, amount of km's/year and ease of installation ...

Re: Newbie project for commuting ebike - Help plz!

I just saw your intended amount of km's/year you'll be biking. Then I would suggest my initial advice on page 1 of this thread: a mid drive. Plug and play kit, no import tax or duty, no other rear wheel or cassette/freewheel and the power in all the gears. You won't be riding off road/sandy trails a...

Re: Newbie project for commuting ebike - Help plz!

Not sure why you would want to order the motor and controller from different sellers? If you order the q128H from BMS Battery then why not also the controller from them?: https://bmsbattery.com/ebike-kit/551-16279-s12p-750w-torque-simulation-square-wave-controller-ebike-kit.html#/44-voltage-36v_48v ...

Re: Newbie project for commuting ebike - Help plz!

Why would you choose a 6 or 9 FET 500W controller for a 800W motor???
You need the 800W 12 FET controller to enjoy all the power that the q128H can take.

Re: E scooter vs E light cafe racer

They are from China so you'll need to pay import taxes. No idea how much that is for your country?
And you will need a serious battery that can provide enough amps to take full advantage of the possibilities and have adequate range. So a 72V 30Ah pack (but rather more Ah) is needed.

Re: E scooter vs E light cafe racer

That's a better basis to start with indeed :thumb: I would use a mid drive motor with chain to the rear wheel. That way you can use different gear ratio's to find the best one for acceleration vs speed. And you won't need a new rear wheel/brake. That would look much better than different wheels fron...

Re: E scooter vs E light cafe racer

Then try to find a decent electric scooter with bad lead acid batteries and convert that. It seems you want more speed and range than you can affort. The best you can do is read up on as much information so you gain a lot of knowledge. In the mean time search in your area for electric vehicles that ...

Re: Newbie project for commuting ebike - Help plz!

generaly, when I refer to the Q128 as being wide, I'm referring to the motor housing. The actual dropout width is standard, or maybe a milimeter wider. Free wheel or cassette, the total combined width should in the 135 to 137 m/m range. It's easy to spread the chainstay a milimeter or two. A flat w...
